FFVII: AC is "out"..

Jesus, all this griping. Am I the only one who thought this movie was hot as fuck?
It was pretty hot yeah, but as usual people are over analyzing it and bashing it. Just enjoy the T2 level action scenes and stfu. :)

even as a fan of the original, i couldn't help but think this movie fucking sucked.

horrible story, script, action, EDITING and music.

save for the few awesome looking shots here and there, it simply wasn't worth the wait.

So how are FF VII and FF X related?

I'm not sure about RELATED per se, but there was a wink-wink nudge-nudge sort of reference to the Lifestream in one of the cutscenes in X-2.

So... if I hate FF7, care nothing for FF7's story nor its music nor its characters, but absolutely love fast paced well choreographed fight scenes, I'll love this?

there is not a single well choreographed fight scene to be found in this movie.

If you like great fight scenes and looking for a great movie, off topic but check out Oldboy. I just hunted the DVD down and watched this last week cant get it out of my head it was soo good. Watch it before you are corrupted by the Americanized version coming out soon.

As an FF7 fan this movie is really tops, cool, over the top battes, full 3D tifa and cloud, gorgeous graphics, etc2...but as a movie watcher it's not even a movie at all..more like an extended 100-minute Tekken-like cutscene, complete with techno soundtrack and bajillions of slo-mo. Storyline is paper-thin, the anime sensibilities (the whole thing is just Cloud getting his groove back..) makes it inane. Movie's just a string of battles after another. But, somehow, I enjoyed it. Chalk it up to a Tifa panty-shot :D

Edit: to add, the battles are not too graceful, instead it's all super-powered anime-style bashing. Fun, although tiring after awhile. The climax jump of the Bahamut-shin battle is pretty cool though.

I'm always wary of japanese action movies.

It isn't physics defying wire shit like most of the 'omg awesome' japanese movies that come over here is it?

Nono. First its Korean and second its more like Memento or one of those "mind-fuck" movies more than anything. It isn't an action movie, but the fight scenes in it are very gritty and realistic. The whole movie is just shot beautifully.

First of all, it's Korean, second of all, no there are no wires or shit like that.

The fighting is very brutal, and very realistic looking. But there are only two fight-scenes. One maybe thirty seconds long, and the one single-take 2:30 fight (which is bar none my all time favourite fight-scene).

Oh, and it's the best movie ever too :p

did we see the same movie?

advent children is an unbelievably silly fanfic that should probably offend anyone who still cares about ffvii. but the fight scenes are intermittently cool. and everything looks like it's made out of sugar. i guess i liked it alright!

...i hope i don't get banned for this.

was the ffvii cast always so...boring? didn't cid have a foul mouth? couldn't vincent turn into a frankenstein? weren't tifa's tits bigger originally? the only character who's at all differentiated is that kadaj guy. i was totally pulling for him. did you see his katana? it's like...a double katana.

Squenix seems to need about 30 hours to tell a decent story. They should stay away from making movies period.
Visually impressive but the movement animations were averange and sometimes straight bad.
Poor phasing in the story, bad story and just a bunch of mediocer fanservice...

The trailers were better.

Who's over-analyzing it? The film is all flash and surface. There is nothing to analyze....though I'm sure we'll eventually see the same kind of half-baked academic papers that FFVII spawned. "The scene at the film's end represents a spirtual baptism for Cloud...a reawakening into a wondrous new world..."

Shall I be the dumbass that always has to point out that Frankenstein was the doctor, not the monster? :D The ever-so-brief sequences of Vincent in action left me looking forward to Dirge of Cerebus, even though I know Square is incompetent with any genre besides RPG.

I was kinda surprised at how sanitized the whole thing was. Not only is there no cursing (from Barret or Cid), but there doesn't seem to be any blood either.

And they made Tifa kind of look like Rinoa.

I'm watching Spirits Within RIGHT NOW on my projector and I'm stunned by how much better the facial rigs are. And it's such old tech too :(

Spirits Within also appears to have a color script, too. (Grumble)

Well, ShoNuff... I am sure if they gave it the budget that Spirits Within got they could have modelled the characters better too.

Still, I like my Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and I like it quite a bit :D.

"OMG!!! Tifa we are TORRENT-PWNED!!! What on mako are those motherfuckers watching us if they haven't paid a buck!!!"

The JP owl is without a doubt the funniest one so far.
And the use of the Katakana "o"... man you are a fucking genius!!

Overall I liked it. I'm a fan of FF7 for reference, but nothing like all the fanboys for it. I thought the pacing and plot throughout the movie itself wasn't that great, but the ending resolution I was happy with. Plus the action is just crazy over the top. I could see someone not liking it because it's TOO out there (some parts are basically on level with say DBZ type insanity), but other than that the action was fucking awesome.

bleh, i thought it sucked.

the whole "SUPERHUMAN OMG LETS JUMP FROM BUILDING TO BUILDING GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO CLASH BOOM CLASH BOOM CLASH BOOM" thing didn't fit at all.

and the way the action scenes were edited... it was kind of hard to tell what the fuck was going on in some parts.

the storyline was paper-thin. i kind of wish they just made a cliffnotes version of ffvii instead of this shit.

in fact the only aspect of the movie that i really liked was the music. awesome work.

bottom line IMO, this movie was sooo not worth the wait.

Trust me, if they had the power back in 1997, that's what FF7 would have looked like.

lol i guess so..

i even liked how they had so many similiarties to the game.. like the hotels the materia even the dolls you win at that carnival place..

i really liked it.

i would point out my deliberately cute colloquial usage of "frankenstein," but i bet no one would believe me anyway. :(

GET OUT OF MY HEAD!! That damned awesome version of 'One winged angel' is haunting my brain!

AIEEEE!!! Get out! I'm about to watch FG now, OUT! >_<

I'm sure the $140 million budget for The Spirits Within is a far cry from what Advent Children used, because if it didn't that would defeat it's purpose. You could finance the rest of the FF games for all of next generation with a budget like that.
