The sad thing is these have been the problems with football games since PES 2-3. And we haven't gotten any further. Someone will say this is not meant to be exactly like football, it's a game after all. Then give me a fucking fun game that doesn't put itself a sim-like coat and plays nothing like a sim. Give me Sensible Socer, not this.
this game will likely be fun as hell, as have been most footie games as long as you learned like most of us did many years ago not to waste time playing against the cpu. the frustrations you list are only the beginning, which is why yet again i will be playing 1-2 games tops against the cpu

been playing the demo some more, absolutely can not stand it.

the movement of the players is awful, the dribbling is overpowered, forcing you to do the new defensive system where you don't take control of the ball and have to wait for the opposition to force a mistake rather than take the ball yourself. sometimes you do not see the ball for a good 30 minutes in game. boring.

the finishing is too easy, it can be hard to get a chance but when you do it's always in the back of the net. one on ones always fly in, plus you can just right stick flick it past the keeper and knock it into an open net every time. defensive headers are also bullshit.

the one thing that gripes me is how the players can turn on a sixpence. why introduce this new ultra sensitive timing of tackles when players can dribble like they can in this game.

i know some of you think it works, and maybe it does against the ai, but when someone good controlling lionel messi is running at your defenders online, you time your tackle and he just flips around in a millisecond, and you either give away a penalty AND/OR get sent off and it ruins the match i'm not so sure you will think the same way.

all i know is team play is gonna be crazy. i'm undecided if I mean that in a good or bad way.

haha, well yeah except if you're playing ranked matches you'll be playing barcelona EVERY SINGLE MATCH.

oh and we all know messi does not go to ground, but fifa does not know this.

No you wont as you can reportedly choose a team before the match selection, so you will only be paired up with teams at the same level.
Exact reason why I'll probably never play a 5* team online, which leads to completely avoiding Barcelona, ManU and Madrid :)

you can't turn on a sixpence? I'm no pro athlete but I can sprint 10 yards and turn pretty damn fast and sprint the other way. I can shimmy left and right very fast.

and in football if you can see someone steaming in and sticking his leg out its the simplest thing in the world to jink past him. its when they stand off and press you that it becomes hard. then you have to wrong foot him to get him off balance in order to out pace him and when you make your move is when he makes his tackle. and if you go to pass he's gonna just stick a leg out and block you unless you go backwards.

of course sometimes you don't react fast enough or you hesitate and he can tackle you easily and that's still true of fifa 12.

I think its important to not just hold down Contain or Jockey too much. Be manual like 80% of the time and apply contain/jockey as if you're swinging a sword or applying the brakes.

Honestly in FIFA 11 sometimes I would go entire games without pressing the press or team mate press buttons because I'd just be running into people and taking the ball off them with the Left stick.

Don't over think it, don't try to play it like the old game.

The demo I'm playing has brilliant defense controls, solid and tactile offense and the smartest AI I've seen in a long time in a sports title.

What you're describing sounds more like:

Toys R Us has the 360 preorder for 45 dollars so I just bought it.

Not sure what to think about tactical defending, I may turn it off for off-line, but I can't consider not buying a football game this year. Haven't really been a fan of PES for a while and I liked participating in the GAF leagues with Fifa, even if no one likes playing my 4-1-4-1

That's only cause is more of a 8-1-1 than anything lol

Quick question, not sure if it's already been discussed.

Been playing the PC demo. Runs fairly smooth on medium (laptop here), but from time to time the game just hitches and moves at 2-3 frames a second before correcting itself. Is this a common problem?

Not different enough? So you instantly switched to legacy defending.

I defended the same way I've always defended, so not sure what you're getting at there.

But the game felt too similar to 10. If anything, I'd have to play 10 again (haven't picked it up for a while), but 12 might have even felt a touch more sluggish.

played the game 2 vs 2 at lunchtime today in work. Everyone's new to the demo and finding their feet but we had a great time. It worked very well with 2 vs 2, you're not scrambling as much or getting ripped apart by AI.

The games were very tight despite no one being able to defend 100% because it feels like the passing has been tuned a bit, maybe semi settings would have more joy (I feel the same way about auto settings on FIFA 11 tbf).

Everyone really enjoyed the more tactical approach to making interceptions and forcing errors and sometimes when we decided to go on a dribble it felt awesome when we were pulling off moves, but the moves didn't always take us past the defenders cos they weren't diving in.

Give it time lads, it works. Getting used to it now and I like it more.

I wish I kept a PM of someone yelling at me on live, I did that formation with Barcelona and he couldn't hit it over the top to Ronaldo so he called me Tony Pulis

Demo was very meh. Not different enough to 10 for me to warrant a purchase this year.

Can't believe I'm going to skip FIFA 2 years in a row after never having skipped it EVER.

FIFA 10 still stands as perfection to me.

This made me laugh so hard my stomach hurt

We've called your bullshit on this before, but FIFA 10 didn't have 360 degree dribbling. You've got to be joking.

Played for the first time against my usual Fifa buddy. His defence is absolutely atrocious now - I literally walked into goal on least 8 different occasions. Puyol looked hilarious as he missed 3 tackles in a row letting Ibra walk into goal.

I'm liking the defense a lot more versus a real player. Against the computer on World Class/Legendary is just too frustrating.

I concur. Played against a friend over the weekend and it was as fun as FIFA has been. i bitched alot about the computer ai and that still stands but i'll happily only play online

Aint no shame in not being able to get used to TD ;)

I'll be posting the OT as soon as I get back from work (ie, less than 12 hrs from now). Anything besides the link to the GAF x360 club thread that you guys want me to include, lemme know :)

I included tons of tutorials videos in last year's OT so this will be no different ;)

EA's put up a pretty detailed guide of what to expect from this year's Creation Centre, along with the many exclusive CC stuff you get if you bought the Season Ticket: http://www.ea.com/uk/news/fifa12-creation-centre-02

If I've read that correct, I can create a new team though the CC portal like Wirral County FC, add them to League 2 in Career Mode and work my way up to the Premiership?

Or, I could add a new League like South Norfolk Pub League Division 4 and all it's (fictional) teams, add that league and teams to career mode and play as Dog and Duck FC fruitlessly trying to sign down and out have been players?

Awesome if I'm correct. Definitely add a new dimension to the game. Shame it'll take a bit of set up (and a season pass) to do.

The Creation Centre is worthless unless you are willing to pay to use the teams in your Career mode. I'm sorry EA, it would be an awesome feature to use, but I'm not going to pay you more money to use it. I can't wait to see what the numbers are for how many people purchase the premium creation centre content.

You know what the worst part is? I'm going to get drunk one night, and come home from the bar and play the requisite FIFA matches before I goto bed. I'm going to start fucking around with the creation centre, and create a masterpiece of comedy within a team, and impulsively and drunkenly purchase the option to put them in Career mode. Then I'm stuck giving EA money for a feature I don't think I should be forced to pay for.

Has anyone done a comparison between the PS3/360 versions yet? So far, I'm buying the 360 version out of habit (and onlineGAF), but I'm wondering if that's a good enough reason.

only Fernando's ripe melons are good enough for me
I always find the demo's tough to play, maybe because it's a new game and I haven't had much time with it. But, I am finding it very difficult to create legitimate goal scoring opportunities. It just seems way too hard right now. And not just against the computer, I play with my roommate 95% of the time.

I know it's supposed to be a sim or whatever, but when a game ends with 4 shots total between both sides, something is wrong. I'm a pretty solid FIFA player as well. I play 11 online and have a very good record (3:1 win to loss ratio). I feel that they need to make some changes that opens the game up a bit more.

I've played pro-evo as well, and it was definitely more fun having games end 4-3 or even 5-4 than ending 1-0 or going to penalties.

edit: I felt that in past (whatever game I was playing, FIFA or PES), if I scored a goal against a friend, it was because I earned that goal. Now, I feel like goals are either scored through some type of fluke, an exploit, or a forced error on the AI's part. However, more often than that, I feel that I am denied a brilliant goal by unbelievable goal keeping.
