Fighting Games Weekly | Aug 18-24 | Fall back, u nerd

KI uses GGPO, doesn't it? Aside from when the game decides you don't actually get to play the opponent, don't people swear up and down that the online is legit?

Also, Deckard's use of "this gen" is confusing, because there's no reason to think PS4/X1 won't be capable of handling GGPO, but PS360 are last gen.

Also, two weeks until best DOA character comes to consoles. <3 dev support, stay salty capcomrades

KI doesn't use GGPO, bu tit still follows the same rollback-based netcode. It's pretty good, couple of desyncs now and then, though.

By the way its fucking 2014 bro. GGPO? Seriously? First of all GGPO isn't even that good, second good fuckin luck on a this gen of consoles putting aside enough ram to run GGPO effectively. There is a reason no game but ports of 90s fighting games us GGPO, it's cause it's a huge resource hog.

The latter is actually true.

From what little KI I've played, when the netcode was good it was GOOD, but when it was bad it was... lying. Like it wouldn't lag at all, but instead would stop receiving the opponent's inputs or something like that, which would then lead to weird stuff when playing a friend while talking over the mic.

- Haha, did you see that finish!
- Er... what? From my side you've stopped playing and I won...
- Wait what?

That was when it released, though, don't know if they ever fixed that.

I think USF4 on Steam is going to end up being the best online experience Capcom has ever put out.

Everything they've done on PSN has been a joke, Live was ok / good for the most part (not to mention the 360 ports themselves were superior offline), but Capcom actually seems to be on top of things with the Steam version. Could they have run this beta before the release? Probably, but this is still the fastest turnaround ever; at least from an acknowledging things are screwed and they're trying to fix it kind of standpoint.

I hate the SFIV model. You're pretty much riding through the entire console generation on a single title. If I was still playing Tekken 6 on its fourth $15 update, I would've been dead tired of it. Need sequels.
I don't really like how what you get for your $15 varies depending on their production capacity. But I think it's less tolerable because they don't have a good, consistent content pipeline to push content to consumers like F2P games or some of the bigger AAA games too. And I don't see that changing either, despite them listing it as a major franchise, they certainly don't treat it like the others (or even Lost Planet lol).

Now that you mention the whole one-game for a generation thing, I think it's crazier that we've been quoted not to expect SFV until 2017/2018 at the earliest. That's 4-5 years into this gen. SFIV released about 2-3 years in.

Because USFIV is going strong enough to let them lean on it as the PS360 gen title while they try to launch whatever IP they're currently working on for the PS4/PC.

What IP is this?
"Not SF."

He did mention on twitter that the CPT is altering how they think about releases/timelines/information, and going from USF4 to USF4/*Next-Gen non-SF title" to "Non-SF"/SFV would definitely make sense in terms of marketing.

That wouldn't help- just make you more consistent on things as harder more is just more HP.

Falcom is pretty awesome though.
Uh, this is wrong. Things change on boss fights. Not to mention Nightmare basically the only mode that bosses have enough HP to actually live long enough to do all their stuff a few times.

It's funny that you say it wouldn't help. But then say it would make you more consistent on things. Uh that's 1/3rd of fighting games.

This article from 2010 is all I found:

http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2010/dec/23/capcom-discusses-ggpo-net-code-technology/

It doesn't seem relevant to the PS4/XB1 with 16x the RAM of previous consoles and who knows how much higher throughput from the RAM, CPU and GPU speeds. I am a programmer, though my expertise is nowhere near this stuff. Still, I think GGPO should be doable for the upcoming generation of AAA fighting games.

You don't think with the demand of HD gaming, 1080p, 60 FPS, & the addition of better graphics that they will be able to allocate enough RAM to do that? No likely. Let's be real, SF4 looks like a PS2 game & it couldn't come close to using GGPO on consoles. Only way they are using GGPO on any next gen fighter is if the graphics are poo.

You know people would probably take you more seriously, and actually consider that your opinion might be valid if you didn't fill your posts with ridiculous hyperbole.

Wait what? The Kiss release of GGXX2+R!$37*_ isn't going to have netplay? The fuck are they doing over there

The game itself doesn't have netcode, though they should have hit up the guy that made the netplay mod and see if they could sign a deal or some shit to put it in the steam version

Some of the information spewed here in this thread about TTT2 is quite laughable.. I commend Sayah for his thoughts, because his comments were most accurate about the game itself.. The biggest issue with the game was the roster and clone characters(atleast for me and other people I chat with).. (People don't like the BDC movement either but that's for another discussion).. I personally loved the bound mechanic but that's yet another issue for some.

No one really complains about the tag mechanics in the game, but people want a 1v1 release as well to see what Namco and Harada can summon for the next installment.. I'm sure a Tag 3 would be a welcome addition after that..

FYI:
King of Fighters XIII Steam Edition is part of this week's humble bundle. (If you beat the average of $5.05)

link

Wait...I am confused as to how this humble bundle works, do you pay 5 bucks to get the locked stuff too, or do you pay 5 bucks to get the ability to get a discount?

You pay a dollar for everything bucked the locked items.

Pay above the average for the locked games.

Res and framerate has fuck all to do with the amount of RAM. ;p
So no, a fighting game with two characters and a background isn't going to fill 4GB of RAM unless you want to do something like MK's Shang Tsung and make him able to morph into every character available in the game without a loading screen.

GalCiv II and Crusader Kings II are top tier in the strategy game department as well. This bundle is a steal if you don't own all the games.

GalCiv II shows its age a bit, but the AI is awesome, and Crusader Kings II has a Game of Thrones mod.

I got coach steve man. He owns Flux the other premier ZMC player.

Cloud is a beter ZMC player than Flux, his Vergil and Dante play are on a level above Flux's. His jam session conversions are well. In a first to 10 I see the best ZMC player edging ahead by a bit. I mean a lot of people bet on Flux just based on the power of the team despite Steve being more fundamentally solid.

I think Cloud being better than Flux is honestly debatable and it's a pointless debate to be had. We know that Flux and Cloud are both strong players who play ZMC with similar resumes. We also know that Coach Steve has a lot of experience against Flux. The argument being made here is that Coach Steve is very experienced in the match up. The only argument you can make here is that Cloud's Dante is his best character while it's Flux's worst

I remember the PS1 games with loading times mid round, lol
