I dunno, I really hate the video game PR drip and the modern school of game marketing that says you have to "maintain the hype" by using it.

Like, do they really get more sales by announcing a character one at a time versus revealing the lineup all at once up front?

A steady flow of new information keeps the game in people's minds. Revealing everything or barely anything and then showing the same thing over and over can hurt people's perception of the game. The Order is a recent example where every convention or expo had the same playable build and people were just tired of seeing analysis or what have you on the same thing they had seen months before.

What's wrong with saying "here's the list of characters" then doing trailers when they are ready?

I don't think the veil of secrecy in the name of hype really doesn't anything good.

I'm glad they don't think like you.

Boring. I'd rather be excited and speculate.

how strict is evo on the passes. Trying to convince one of my friends to go, but seeing how he can't get the main hall pass, he'd be stuck in the side hall. They super strict during sunday finals?

Revealing everything and then 20 months later: "hey, here's the game you already knew everything about 20 months ago"?

I think it's cool to announce characters along the way, "maintaining the hype" is important, getting every month an article on big gaming websites is even more important. Non-hardcore fans will forget about your game if you don't go out and say "hey, here's our game and here's what's new" every now and then.

But I really dislike having the game announced 2 and a half months ago and knowing only 4 characters that'll be on it

Easier links and more chainable combos sounds like a fantastic online experience.

All those Ryus and Kens mashing 3 frame jabs into high damage combos is going to be a lot of fun to play against.

It will be like SFxT all over again.

SFxTK had links though which made a huge difference. That's what I"m afraid of.

I want something more like how I remember A2 being, where there weren't a ton of links, but some neat combos otherwise (like throwing into supers and stuff)

That's kind of what I'm getting at. The PR drip taken to the extreme.

I'm just tired of it. And cranky. You kids get off my lawn and all that.

Yeah, extreme is never good, even worse when you can pre-order the game already!

Mortal Kombat did it right: they had at least 5 characters announced right off the bat. and then from time to time they revealed more

At least in the new SF5 trailer there wasn't egregious amounts of clip cutting, they actually let special moves go through their whole animation.

The SFxT Hugo trailer almost gave me a seizure for how many times they cut and pasted clips together for *dramatic effect*. I could barely even tell what was going on.

We're still 12+ months out from the game more than likely. The only way we weren't gonna get a drip of information in the beginning is if the game was announced with, like, 8 months until release. The beginning will always be slow and the news will start picking up more and more as we get closer to release. MKX went months without a character reveal and now we've had 4 in 6 weeks. It's just how it goes.

Yeah, you don't need a playable build either. Smash 4 hype went crazy just on the new character trailers alone. Heck, people went crazy on a fake Rayman trailer. Rayman for Christ sakes.

I don't think anyone has more loyalty to a character than 16 bit with katana.
Has NRS done those variation videos for kotal khan and ferra/torr?

So if I'm right in thinking that Charlie's teleport is his instinct/activation thing, then that has some very interesting implications when you start thinking about what the rest of the cast may have.

Really can't wait to see more.

No, just the images that explain their differences. Only Kano/Raiden got true ones, the Kitana one was just information we already knew from last stream instead of an edited piece that shows just shows off the different aspects of variations.

3 Jabs into a combo in SFxT is guaranteed to get you poor damage in that game, lol

speaking of yatagarasu (if anyone gives a shit) this dude has a yata exclusive channel and has uploaded a bunch of new arcade matches. heres one and there is a bunch more.

In the current crop of fighters, we have reached the training mode saturation point. There's a lot of fighters that I would play, if I didn't have to put in lab time just to get by.

I don't think the Yata devs were really thinking about this, they're just copying 3s, but in a time like this I appreciate a fighter who's core is footsies in to 2in1's and then a light mixup.

Yata is filling a space long absent. What crazy time we live in when I have to find a glossary to combo my jab in to a knockdown, in a fighter with "Street Fighter" in its name.

Shout outs to the 1-hit combo.

I do recall some friends with A passes being on the main hall on Sunday in 2012 but I can't remember if they switched passes with someone or just snuck in :/

Right or wrong, I feel people say that about EVERY fighting game pre-release.

This is true. People complained that Marvel 3 was too slow and pointed to all the time outs in pre-release matches. People complained that SFxT was too slow and pointed to all the time outs in pre-release matches. SFV may or may not be slow as of right now or by the time it releases.

I do kind of like the excessive hit animation, especially for counterhits. Fishing for counterhits in airdashers seems more natural than in SF. In Xrd, the game screams at you that you landed a counter hit and your opponent reels back long enough that you can easily imagine what you could do differently in this situation compared to landing a normal hit.

They should bring Sean back in V and make his moveset completely based around his basketball.
Like he's always dribbling it. And his super or whatever can be him dunking on you.

he's the deejay of sf3

Good lord, I hope this never happens.

So make him into Lucky Glauber?

My experience too. I've never gotten salty about other fighting games the way I got alty about SF4. Melee, KOF, GG, nothing manages that constant salt generation factor.

He's right, SF4 is probably the most frustrating fighter I've ever played lol
I can play like 200 matches of TvC without stopping, but about 6 matches of SF4 later and I just can't handle the annoyance anymore.

Thisss.

holy shit I thought it was just me.

Nope. You're not alone.

1f window for inputs are most probably gone, even ASW came back to their senses with Xrd and are taking them out with the first update. There's just no room for them in fighters, not if you care about online.

It's good for the game to have execution walls, though there are a lot of ways to have those(including 1f window stuff) without crippling a lot of your characters online by having no buffer.

The buffer is actually 2f as far as I know, and is getting increased to 3f in the patch.

Preach.

Most fighters are on the slow end compared to the past. Lower damage drags matches, slower movement (it weakens footsies, hate), more hitstop in some cases, worse button config. Shit just a blanket 10% speed up to actual game for most would be cool.

The drip-feed of characters is just funny to me now that everyone's doing it. Omg sub-zero was just announced for MK?! Get right out of town! What's this? Ken Masters is back in SF? You don't say.
