prize pot for the aganos challenge is now over $1000

if you don't know: cstyles is doing a stream (http://www.twitch.tv/cstyles45) for KI with new characters... started with omen

if someone beats him in a first to 3 set with the new character, they win the money. no one has won yet.

I just don't understand why they decided to not stream the USF4 pools matches at Cannes when some guy (nayte91) is apparently recording the matches on his harddrive -which mean they'll be available somewhere in the future.

The best players from Korea are here. Brutal matches are happening (apparently) and meanwhile we're getting boring KOF matches with lousy commentary.
Why the hell didn't they setup an alternate twitch channel ? Don't tell me it's about bandwidth management when Spooky could stream on dial-up, literally

UPDATE : http://www.reddit.com/r/Kappa/comments/2xctkj/cannes_winter_clash_regarding_stream_issues/. The matches will be on Youtube

Very simple: you can't run an event like Cannes only on SF4 and expect to balance finances. I know it as I was one of the past Cannes organizers.
This year they added Smash and Xrd for this reason, and KOF is a favorite game for many people in Europe that barely made it this year. For sure you could only do solo tournaments for small games but it's not enough to gather people at an event like this. So you run 5vs5 tournaments as it's basically free money, a way to earn more with the same amount of players. If you ask for more money from each player, you better deliver them with at least a stream. SF4 will be on the main stage all day saturday and sunday with his own 5vs5 and solo and this evening the top 3 of the 2vs2 tournament will be streamed.

Sometimes you'd better take a step back and look at the whole picture. Except maybe for EVO if they tried and sponsored event, SF4 is not a big enough game to be sustainable. You need other games to pool equipment, the rent of the place, etc...

Edit: about stream management and why they didn't put another stream. Cannes is in the basement of the Palais des Festivals so you can't run on 4G, almost no phone has network. And since it's a festival, they normally rent the internet: 1mbps upload of internet costs 1k€ the weekend. You need 3mbps for each stream so it's basically 9k€ just for the streams. Past Cannes events had an agreement so internet was free of charge for the streams, but the amount was fixed before the event started. And about wifi: limited amount of personal codes with authorized MAC adress of each phone/computer. France has very drastic/stupid rules regarding open wifi. :/

Would today's market be more receptive to something like SF3's lineup shakeup? Or worse?

Worse. But for SF5 they can't just redo the Vanilla arcade thing of putting SF2 cast + 4 new characters as people would say it's the same as before. It's a hard thing for Capcom actually.

Receptive if the newcomers and underused characters are done right alongside positive changes for the sequel.

SFIV has done the classics to death and then some. You best believe the hardcore fans will raise up a stink so bad you could smell it from outer space, though. I know this from watching MvC3 and UMvC3's releases. Not that I'm one to talk considering I still haven't gotten Xrd.

Never really bought into the theory that SF3 failed due to its roster, personally.

I think identifying a single factor for the game's relative lack of success would be very difficult. I don't think you can remove it as a contributing factor, though.

Neither do I. I think the first version of the game being an absolute shitshow did more damage.
Add in the decline of the arcades etc.

I don't think Capcom should mind who is receptive and who isn't. You don't create new fans of new characters without shaking up the roster a lot. Otherwise you fall into the trap that other fighting game sequels fall into where you can't change anything substantive due to your hardcore fans.

Countless people were thrown off by SF3's initial release. The marquee that simply said "THREE" with a picture of ryu and alex was enough for young me to be like "wtf is this..?"

It was ahead of its time... too ahead.

The weird/unfamiliar roster didn't help, but anyone claiming to not have interest in SF3 because X character wasn't in it, had no interest in the arcade experience, period. Arcades were on the decline and the 3D home console experience was on the rise.

Hell, it didn't help that most arcades in America didn't even buy the game. I never got a chance to get my hands on it until AE, and I'm sure that goes for most people in the US.

I personally feel the roster factor had an insignificant impact and modern Capcom's creativity is being hamstrung by that perception.

For those of you that aren't already aware, my wife Holly Elizabeth Sherman passed away this evening at 8:29 PM Central. I'm sorry that some of you have to find out over Facebook, but I tried to contact all of her friends in advance that I could over the phone and to get everyone in the local KC area to KU Med to see her before she passed, as it was all very sudden. She suffered a 25 year battle with Chron's Disease which made her body very weak. She ultimately had a heart attack from lack of oxygen stemming from complications related to an infection and obstruction in her digestive system. She coded for somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes, and the doctors were able to revive her, but she was in a coma and ultimately her body just gave out and was unable to sustain itself on its own without help. While I'm sad that she is gone and that my son will not get to know his mom, I'm happy that she is finally able to find the peace and comfort that eluded her in life

I appreciate all of the kind messages and texts from those of you that have reached out to me. When funeral arrangements are made, I will try and post them, and if you want to contact me here over messenger if you have specific questions, I don't mind. In lieu of sending flowers for anything, I would like to ask for donations to benefit Autism Speaks, it is a charity that she believed strongly in (as do I), and helps raise money that directly benefits our son Ashton and his education and therapies.

Saying SF was going Sony exclusive was pretty straightforward.

It's not a zero sum game. Make your own decisions, I'm just saying if you're not familiar with him (and it sounds like you are) you might want to be before buying into everything. You won't see me with a Knack/Verendus avatar though.

I have a real suspicion of the motives of "leakers" on the board. Suspecting their motives and not liking the way they leak things is different than saying "OMG THEY ALWAYS LIE."

I don't think the roster had anything to do with it either. This is also anecdotal, but when sf4 was gearing up for release most people I knew were asking when was sf3 released. Personally I always thought sf3 lack of popularity had to do with the fall of the dreamcast.

I didnt say it was a leak, nor does he. He posts casually all the time in the forums and then its oh shit he was actually leaking info after it happens.

I am tickled by the idea of no Ken in the initial roster.

What is happening in France. Can't remember the last time I've seen a stream go this badly.

Yup. Most didn't even know the game existed.
