Capcom's still in the business of making fighting games, and it's thanks to fans like you!
There's a follow up tweet from Niitstuma immediately afterwards.

I would wager the next-gen game announcement's at EVO.

Thanks! I saw another video too, so at least I know the team to prepare for.

Any ZMC players on GAF I could train with a bit? I don't recognize anyone else in my bracket, so (theoretically) it should be smooth sailing after Sean Aquino.

I use ZMC. XBL or PSN?

It begins.... >:)

Lol, I should probably warn Ward. :p You two have fun.

I'm currently in Vegas but gotta leave the weekend of EVO. :( So I wish everyone the best of luck. Next year for sure!
Though if anyone is already here hit me up for some Ultra, Marvel, and Project M.

TVC2 soft confirm

I think it has to be hinting at something new for sure. He's not talking about ongoing development for UMvC3 because there hasn't been any (to my knowledge). Please correct me if I'm wrong though, I know they developed for Vita, but that was 2 years ago.

He surely can't be talking about taking servers offline, because it's really not been that long, especially for a fighting game.

Which can only mean [random crossover game I want to happen but probably won't]. Actually, I kind of want them to just use in-house IP for their next game xD They have enough characters over there to do whatever the hell they want, and not have to think about licensing.

Hahahahaha. Oh man, this is gold.

Definitely Mizoteru, apparently he's coming to EVO this year. He plays a very lame Blanka just like me(j/k, the other Rice guy). He use to be somewhat of a myth. Back in the old says back in 2009, I remember Justin took a trip to Japan. When he came back he talked about how their was this crazy Blanka player who would beat Daigo all the time and when he left to go play at a different machine, Mizoteru would follow him to play him again in that area.

Your USF4 pool definitely looks doable. Sange Tencho is a pretty good Fei Long player. Unless one of these other guys is actually really good, he should be the favorite to take the pool. But getting out in losers is probably up for grabs and I think you have a good shot at it.
Thank you! I will look him up.

So does that Niitsuma tweet imply the online servers will be taken down? Or just that a "new era" is soon?
It just means Niitsuma reads GAF and wanted to weigh in on yesterday's discussion.

Oh right. In regards to the Niitsuma tweet, I read a few posts saying that Marvel's Vita DLC was taken down a few days ago. Perhaps a reference to that.

Stuff like that will always make me point the finger at Marvel. It isn't like Capcom begged for their content to be taken down after a while. Marvel just wanted to impose unreasonable restrictions.

EVO is next week? Yikes, it's really snuck up on me.

I went to EVO last year, but this year I'm choosing to invest the money I'd spend going to EVO in going to driving school.

Having my driver's license will afford me more opportunities to attend local fighting game get togethers. I find public transport is too inconvenient for that, especially when you're lugging a setup.

Is there any precedent for servers being taken down for such a widely played not so old game as Marvel 3? It would crush me if I couldn't play online anymore. What a stupidly ambiguous tweet from Niitsuma.

The crazy thing is, I think Sp00ky could commentate any game. He does about as well of a job in front of UMvC3 and SF4 as he would in front of Sailor Moon SuperS or Fighter's Masters.

I'd listen to Spooky commentate grass growing.

I really miss Arcade Edition (pre v2012).

Holy fuck at nearly 2k for USFIV.

Grown by about 500 people since 2012. It's a bit hard to find earlier stats though.

They didn't start keeping digital records before then. If they have brackets somewhere, I don't know where. I'll look into seeing if they have this by chance. Would be good to get those earlier performances archived.

BBCP numbers are surprising. Quite solid.

With a $25K booster to the pot, I don't know why this is? Remember how many people entered KOF13 in 2012 (I think) just because of a Mai t-shirt?

god damn the number of jp entrants lol

This has been the case for a while. They're typically the third largest number of entrants behind USA and Canada. It's good to see them coming over in larger numbers and playing games other than Street Fighter.

He probably hates cheesers.

I am 100% in Justin Marvelous Wong's camp. Manly tears will be shed if he wins. I don't care if I am the only person who feel this way.

You're not, I wept manly tears when Justin made his run last year.

Huge gaps like that makes a pot split much more likely, I would think.

They better take taxes into account, otherwise, the winner is going to be left in a hole possibly.

When was the last time justin won evo, 2010? He's due for another.

That was MvC2. He's not won Evo for a seventh generation game yet.

Have no clue what this means

I guess maybe a live stream hub because Spooky/IPW is doing the main stream for EVO.

Spooky confirmed on twitter that the same team that streamed EVO last year is doing it this year. He said it's some kind of news thing.

According to MarkMan, It's going to be simulcast on Twitch:

https://twitter.com/MarkMan23/status/484158843820056577

IGN will have more iformation, such as links to the brackets, etc. They may have their own chat system in place (not sure), but it looks like it will provide much more supporting information.

Personally, I think it's a great idea, as it's going to expose Evo to a much larger audience.

Is watching VODs on Twitch a miserable experience for anyone else? Nonstop buffering here. And I usually don't have major problems just watching streams.

I'm hoping that YouTube's acquisition means that they'll run archives through the same pipeline that YouTube uses for uploading videos.

Surprized that not one noticed Latif. Abdulatif Alhmili is Latif.

Have fun with Kazunoko.

Looks like I got Hungbee in my Ultra pool, but I don't think I've got any other big names luckily.

CPR went 3-2 in 2012 and 2-2 in 2013. Just in case he's in your bracket line.

Depends on how fraudulent
kappa
Mike Ross is that day.

there's also Isle of Man (practically Great Britain, but not technically).

They had three people at Evo last year.

What a daft tweet by Niitsuma. There better be something positive on the horizon regarding this franchise, or Capcom is without a doubt one of the dumbest corporations in recent history.

I... it baffles me how people continue blaming Capcom on this matter, while we keep repeating over and over that the real "I don't give a shit about this franchise" part comes from Marvel.
You really think Capcom wouldn't have preferred being able to milk the franchise like they did with SF4?

guys
what if
what if it's the patch
That does not seem to mesh well with a curtain closing.

Worst case scenario: Marvel removed from net play.
Best case scenario: random meaningless tweet.

There is nothing better.

Edit: I wish Niitsuma would tweet "The dream is dead".

I'm really disappointed that his tweet doesn't have any Darkstalkers innuendo like just about every Ono tweet needs to have lately... Niitsuma is low-tier at trolling.

You're missing the point entirely.

To continue to make cryptic tweets/PR statements regarding a game/franchise whose rabid fans are desperate for an update to, when all signs point to it being nigh impossible, is just plain dumb. Stop antagonizing us. The company has a history of getting our hopes up for this stuff, which is beyond silly.

Like I said, the Vita content was supposedly pulled this week for Marvel. For Niitsuma, this likely represents the end of an era in his career. It makes perfect sense for him to make a tweet like that. It is only cryptic if you assume it means more than what it says.

But... the guy is saying that the game *is* dying, and thanks all the fans for their support. He is literally putting an end to this cycle of hopes.
It's not his fault people are reading between the lines and trying to stretch out every word to find a confirmation for some personal dreamt up project / patch.

Hopefully that's what he means, and not shutting down online support.

UMVC3 is all peer to peer with some use of MSFT/Sony leaderboards; I don't think there's much to worry about there. It's not like Demon's Souls where there are servers critical to the operation of the world.

I didn't know about the Vita stuff. I thought it was just a random tweet out of nowhere.

Even still, I don't see how it's a smart idea to drive a nail into the coffin with a tweet like that. Even it is correlated to the Vita online store removal, that's still conjecture, and the tweet is still relatively cryptic. It's better he say nothing at all.

So.
What do we do after EVO when, like with every other important event for the last year or so, we don't get any new announcement from Capcom?
"Wait for TGS", I suppose?

Yeah, I'm trying not to get on this hype train... ^^
