Fighting Games Weekly | June 8-14 | We played a lot of SG and VF for some reason

4 button tech? Spill the beans

basically if they go for a grab, you tech, if they go for an attack, you get a focus backdash.

2 bars = Red focus tho

these Momochi tutorial vids are really informative tbh

you can crouch tech with cr.lp if your cr.LK is ass

If a new VF were in the works, how long would be the arcade to console gap be? Is Sega as notorious for long waits like other Japanese developers?

I get the feeling that there won't be a console port unless Sony decides it wants to pay for one, because Sega gonna Sega

Y'all didn't know that already?

I mean.. I knew about multi button teching, but not about having a slower cr.LK (S/O's to AE2012 DJ with a 5f cr.LK) will make your crouch teching window shorter.

I might've heard about 4 button teching but skimmed by it

Xian used to abuse 4 button OS so much back in the day. He'd get blown up for it hard though when he did it a ton in the corner.

Locals are claiming legacy sticks on MKX are noticeably laggier than using a native PS4 stick. Curious if that's the case.

they don't have a negative reputation outside of outliers like PSO (;___; )

VF5FS was the longest delay with a 1.5yr wait for the console port
VF5 vanilla was ~10 months
VF4EVO was 1 year
VF4 vanilla was ~10 months
VF3tb was 1 year
VF2 was 1 year
VF was 1 year

VF3 vanilla, 4FT and 5R never came home

For the record, the player YouPorn allegedly sponsored mains Ganondorf.

So about on the level of sponsoring a Spanish Dota2 team.

Edit: Also something something porn sponsor for a children's game.

Well NRS fucked up the L0 driver implementation. Mike Z has demonstrated correct implementation a couple times after mkx and ps4 ultra came out and they were lagless.

All this really says is that due to the very nature of a fighting game the developers can never actually teach anyone how to play on a competitive level.

It also says that "putting effort into getting good" is a bullshit concept, because even "competitive" players only reach the point at which they are comfortable and then stop.

Fighting games are hard. That's my opinion. Wish they were more fun though.

I think they could find a way to teach people outside of the converted how to play at a competitive level, the problem is those people are not in the design process. You'd need more of an outsider's prespective, but since game development is in a ghetto you will never get those outside views into the development team. Therefore it would be best for the community to help them in that regard, but communities don't do well with outsiders.

Fighting games are easy. Hit the other guy more than he hits you.

Along the way, you figure out some shit like blocking or learning that your opponents tends to guess wrong when you make think low or throw.

And then you see this one characters has some cheap shit no one figured out how to deal with yet.

why wouldn't there be a console port? FS sold above their expectations

I don't have a reason other than "Sega gonna Sega", after the Yakuza 5 localization business and Sonic Boom I really don't know what to expect from them

I feel like releasing a console port within a year of the arcade release that's up to date and providing good community outreach outside of Japan sounds way too sensible for it to be what Sega actually ends up doing. It's like expecting a sensible stance on youtube from Nintendo.
