I definitely don't. I rarely have enough character knowledge about characters other than the one(s) I use to understand when they're running something other than surface-level tactics.

It's something you'd have to know the game well enough to know it's not just guessing correctly. In those cases you'd probably know common OSes.
Something that would be good tech to put out is how to beat OS's/how to check if your opponent is OSing.
Yeah, I know. I was actually referring to a rematch with Smug but my sentence wasn't clear.
Whenever I see something that looks consistently and suspiciously out of bounds for the possibility of human reaction.
I can never tell. I always assume it's the player guessing correctly or reacting.

Same here, in fact one of my favorite moments ever as a viewer was when I was at EVO 2011 and saw Fuudo do a cr. Jab OS Ultra against Poongko's back dash. I was screaming "OMG, WAS THAT A OS" and everybody else in the room was screaming in excitement before the Ultra even landed. And I assume that like me they either thought the same thing or just knew it was going to hit.
It was a pretty magical moment because it felt really good knowing I was in a room full of hundreds if not thousands who knew exactly what was going and and was also excited about it. I had known about OS's before then but this was basically a moment for me as a viewer that made me actively look for things like this more often. And for the most part I can actively spot them, in SF4 anyways. My only regret about EVO 2011 is that I wished I would have got up earlier to get better seats like Gods Beard and company did though.

Yeah, I saw Itazan on the list goign to FR too. Fun. I'd like to get some matches with him. I want to see how well I do now. The last time I played a long set against him was at Sega Cup 2013 while waiting for pools.
As for OS, I don't mind them if they're something simple like buffering Ultra 1 after a cr.lp or something to pressure then catch a possible back dash. I just don't like it when the system does funky things that become an OS. The "Tech uppercut" one that is shown in the video Momochi made would be one that I don't like. Plinking is what annoys the crap out of me,

I just want to point out that the "tech uppercut" OS is something that JP players (at least in the ASW community, correct me if I'm wrong Shouta) typically refer to as a "fuzzy *input* OS". Those type things will exist in basically any engine with an input buffer, unless a system stops you from overlapping certain inputs (in Skullgirls you can't overlap throw tech with any down motion I believe). How wild they get comes down to a lot of design stuff though.

I don't think it's called Fuzzy input OS in Japanese but I would need to watch the Momochi vid again and check terminology. When i think Fuzzy, I think VF5 Fuzzy guard which is a little different and actually makes sense within the game system, lol.
But as far as I understand the tech uppercut, it's doing the the z motion, then immediately hitting back then the button you want in to block uppercut then adding in the throw command to break that option as well. It essentially covers all the options at once making knockdowns super safe for them as long as the have two bars. It's pretty dumb.

Okie dokies. Maybe it's an ASW community thing, we saw the term "fuzzy mash" the other day and they use "fuzzy DP' and "fuzzy roll" for those OSes that hide the inputs behind blockstun.
As far as covering all options, it does lose to hard bait. And if they whiff they can't FADC out so they'll still die pretty hard. The thing that does make it noticeably stronger than in other games is SF4 letting you FADC reversals relatively safely. There are also fewer options on normal KDs in SF4 than in other games so it becomes more noticeable too. I don't think the OS is actually a problem, but it's pretty annoying in that particular game.
Edit: It is worth noting that adjusted timings to keep them in blockstun and take that advantage instead is an option, or just throw them off in general with variable timings. You can do this type of OS out of blockstun as well, and it carries the same risk but with different circumstances.
I'm going to hazard a guess and say that on wake up you can't use the buffer to make the kara go off so you need to be frame perfect.

I'm doing the Rufus focus kara back throw tech which is on SRK's front page.
It's really easy to do it versus fireballs, but doing it on wakeup is insanely hard. You either get meatied or a normal focus comes out. Only 1/20 times can I get it to kara into a throw. :\

Mainly this - repetition of a particular scenario and outcome. It takes a decent number of instances for me to catch on that something is suspicious when being hit by them myself. I doubt I'd be able to recognize them in high-level matches without someone else pointing them out.
Guile has that OS or something like it. Some dude called Lamerboi was using it since 2010.

Do they have a fun gimmick? Do they have a command grab and aren't a grappler? If nobody fits either of those, it's random.
Only with SFIV and I also wonder "Do they have their stick specially modded?" when they hit certain combos with a ridiculous amount of consistency.
The OS-heavy nature of SF4 and the overall reliance of the game on said option-selects is a big turn-off to me. I don't hate on the idea of OSes (and of course use them myself) but when they come to define a huge part of how a game is played moment-to-moment, it's kinda dumb. The stuff that's the worst is super non-obvious OS stuff. It's hard though- it seems like you choose either a strict input buffer (and people complain) or let OSes run wild (and people complain).

Coming from Marvel, this happened so often that there are a bunch of OSs I'm conscious of but couldn't tell you exist unless I was put into the situation. At the same time, my best method of ground movement also OSing a throw while I have Strider Vajra assist was pretty lolololol

Its a university with good standards so allowing a mod for it on a Sm4sh stream ain't a good look. Plus a few guest commentators that many people will instantly recognize will be on!
I hate OSes but man does it feel good to limit your opponents options when running away lol

aren't what defines marvel's neutral game.
@yams- it's annoying to me that OSes are so necessary in SF4 to make offense decent. Would rather the game had better offense inherent in the design rather than a happy accident.
(aside from OSing throws during like 90% of movement and all attacks involving the H button lol)

I used to be a HUGE itazan fan 4 years ago but every tournament he went to (more like the ones i saw), he would never win, always disappointing a comrade! Snake Eyez is my new idol. Whiff punishes for dayssss

yeah, i feel your pain bro but after aquasilk left the scene itabashi is now my fav. zangief player. he's more entertaining to watch than the rest of the zangiefs out there (sorry snake eyez but your zangief can be residentsleeper at times)
I'm a pretty competitive person so you either win or lose. No in betweens, except if you are learning from the loses to invest in winning in the future. Dude will get knocked out by a random...
I really hope he gets top 8 like he did at EVO if I remember correctly...
Eh, Aqua ain't that entertaining to me but he's alright. I love Snake's spacing, its just so good. Silk's commentary is amazing though.
