I'd give the Geomancer the magic duties. The Red Mage is so horrible that he can't do his own job well.
 
Puwexil gets my vote. Thief's run vs. how long it takes to catch monsters makes it an easy pick.

what version are they running? GBA or SNES?

Thief running should balance out by how much faster the Monk is early on. Monk Smash.

Party one also has reliable healing.
 
They can also break rods and don't have to kill their zerker off for a few boss fights. Would be hard to get a Death Sickle without wasting some time, too. I dunno, party 1 just seems a lot easier to me, even though they have the dead weight of a RM.
 
Once Puwexil gets the Red Mage the first world should be a breeze and the Geomancer has a relatively good synergy with the Red Mage thanks to its superior magic stat.

What I like about the second team is its supperior raw power. Dancer and the sheep should destroy later bosses. The problem here is the lack of reliable healing. The first world is going to be a nightmare and then in the second world the characters are going to develop a hi-potion addiction with the consequent gil spending.
 
I had a Monk/Berserker party one year. I rather enjoyed putting Berserk on my Monk to make him slightly less awful in world 3. A barefisted Berserker was also fun.
 
I never played FFV

Two years ago I wanted to partecipate, so I bought FFV on PSN. Eek.
Last year I didn't even try.
This year, having an active twitter/GAF account I checked the Android version. Horrid, translated in Italian and expensive for what it is. Urgh.

I guess the only other way is.. a GBA or a SNES cartridge? And it only came out in Japan for the SNES?
 
I was looking forward to being able to play along on my gcw zero, but apparently reGBA doesn't have a screenshot option :/

Either way, third year registering, hopefully first year finishing!!


Edit - Found a way to accomplish this via hardware. Power slider up + Y saves screens to /screenshots
 
Just 9 more votes to knock out Berserker and Red Mage! You can do it, guys!

Edit: Barring any last-minute shenanigans, we should have a tie! Time Mage/Mystic Knight should be the winners.

Yeah, but you only have 2 chances to get that before the first set of gargoyles (and only one without a Beastmaster and some way to cast Reflect).

Still a useful exploit that I've used in the past.

I was actually wondering about that for the run I'm trying to get in before the fiesta starts. Neons when released cast reflect (on a random party member). They're in the same dungeon as reflect knights, which drop reflect rings. That should be sufficient for getting reflect on a red dragon and level 3 flare super early, right?

They'll cast reflect on a random party member, most likely. You can't choose your target with !Release.

Darn those donations. I didn't want a Berserker. But I suppose if it's for charity it'll be worthwhile.

I'm getting a taste of the insanity of a Thief-Berserker build in my current run through the game.
Save resetting non-stop before fighting Titan in hopes of bagging me a Gaia Hammer. So very tedious.

There's no truly awful party with 3 Berserkers+a Wind Crystal job.

Thief can steal the gaia hammer, a bunch of extra axes in various places, a set of Genji Armor, hi potions in world one, and give Berserkers something they vitally need, speed.

Monk gives Counter which is always nice, Barefisted is a very viable alternative to axes, kick will help with the grind early on. Monk also probably gets some use out of Berserk and equip axes.

White Mage has Shell, Protect, Heals. Probably the best overall choice.

Black Mage has AOE damage, flaming heals. Second best choice.

Blue Mage has Blue Magic. Needs careful planning to get most of the good spells...but at least you can put Learning on everyone!

Knight has Equip Swords, Two Handed, can guard, can heal very slowly with flametongue or (possibly icebrand, can't remember if you can steal four ice shields) if you're really desperate.


EDIT: I got thief+berserker TWICE in a row last year. Reset for that hammer both times. It was worth it for one party and not worth it for the other. It's a neat trick though.
 
Lurked last year, but finally gave in and registered just now.

Here's to hoping my SFC cart's battery is okay. Haven't popped it into my machine in probably 12 years...

If I had more money I'd give quite a bit for this cause though. This event is the highlight of the early summer for me, surpassing E3 and the beginning of beach weather.

That's actually one person, although SA is giving fast and furious. They probably have a larger group doing this than we do at this point.

Exdeath fight was completely broken, as I imagined. He only managed 2 Vacuum Waves in his second form.

Hermes Sandals on all.

Mystic-Chicken Knife with Mug
Bard-Apollo's Harp with Mix
Chemist-Singing all the time
Thief-Assassin's Knife with Spellblade
 
I am shocked, I say shocked, that a party with Bard and Chemist and Mystic Knight had an easy time beating this game.

Just about to draw his first job. Don't know if he's rolling with his assigned ones from The Run vote but I would imagine so.
Which means Monk will be up first.
