New thread for the engine news or not thread worthy?
Just created a thread for this news, hope you don't mind =)
As if anyone here could tell you that. This is Square we're talking about. So what's the realistic time line for release then?

I'm pretty sure that they want to release in 2017, for the 20th anniversary of the game
But as the guy above me said, it's Square

2017 is a good time. 20th anniversary of VII, 30th anniversary of the franchise (celebrate with a remake of the most popular game plus the possibility of Dissidia PS4 that year as well), gives the game roughly 3 years of development since they started last year plus the rumour is that Cyberconnect2 are assisting so that's less workload for SE.Hearing that they're using UE4 for this makes me hopeful that we'll now actually see it before the decade is out. 2017-2018?

After the DQ11 Announcement i actually think the time exclusivity on this game doesn't refer to the xbox one, but more to the Nintendo NX
Maybe Square Enix is still in negotiations and they are waiting how the reaction to NX will be.
And since DQ11 is running on UE4 and FF7 probably aswell, the port shouldn't be a problem
Wouldn't be shocked to see a PC version either, after Type-0 and the FFXIII trilogy. But yeah, I agree that the people automatically assuming an Xbone version is coming are jumping the gun. JRPGs generally aren't doing well on it, and the Japanese couldn't care less about the system. It's getting FFXV and KHIII because they announced those prior to (or more like just as they were seeing) the E3 backlash and the system's utter failure in Japan and they can't really turn around and cancel those ports now, but I think S-E will see releasing FFVII-R on it as a waste of resources.
Do you think they will include or forgo the flip phones from Advent Children?
FF Wiki said:In On the Way to a Smile: Case of Yuffie, it is revealed that the original PHS used by the player party was considered "outdated" and the members of the player party replaced it with the cellphones seen in use during Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.
The Luminous team has been tied to FFXV's development since sometime between E3 2013 and TGS 2014, so it's really not all that surprising that big games like FFVIIR and KHIII that started early or full production 1-2+ years ago and are now knee-deep in production chose to use something that was in a more complete state at the time, especially if the rumors about CC2 being heavily involved with FFVIIR are true (an outside studio would be likelier to use a more common engine).Luminous is such a mess. How did they screw the pooch so badly on in-house engine development two generations in a row?

The Osaka Team originally talked about how much they'd need help from the Luminous team when developing KHIII because they had no experience of current-gen level development. That they changed to UE4 doesn't necessarily mean the Luminous Studios is complete shit, they just needed help that Epic's engine support team had time to give while the Luminous team was completely tied to FFXV. They couldn't really wait for FFXV to be completed when they were getting deep into the game's development after E3 2013 so they chose to switch engines, but that doesn't mean the switch was all due to Luminous being the worst thing ever. The engine produces some pretty stellar results even at this point and they got ~60% of the current PS4/X1 iteration of FFXV done in 2 years (2012-2014) with the engine, so it's not the total disaster that Crystal Tools were that halted the development of FFXIII almost completely for years and then severely limited what they could do with the games developed with it (or at least the games ran horribly when they went past those limits). If the engine was as shitty as all of you people believe, Episode Duscae probably wouldn't exist.
Not saying it's been all sunshine & rainbows when it comes to Luminous, but the extreme negativity towards the engine is probably off the mark too..

FF XV was announced in May 2006.
10 god damn years of blue balling, Square trollololing, madness that finally paid off in the end.FF XV was announced in May 2006.
I do not expect FF VII-R anytime soon. Then again, I waited almost 8 years for that announcement.
stop

FF XV was announced in 2013, Versus was announced in 2006 and was a completely different game with a different story and no longer exists.![]()

Today is Cloud's birthday so Nomura drew a rough art of Cloud

It's only a rough illustration but it is latest Cloud artwork by Nomura I guess..
Cloud had a stud earring ? Since when lol
Seems to me Nomura had a good idea on what he wants out of the game and it's not a brand new title per say.
There will be changes but these will be things that make sense and expands the game experience. Most of the work is already there so that's half the battle.
KH3 development kicked into high gear in 2013 and it is going way more smoothly than XV and seems to be coming out soon.
I think if VIIR is really on UE4 and it is partially outsourced to CC2 I think their target date is possible.

Final Fantasy 8 >>>> Final Fantasy 7 imo
I'm hoping if 7 Remake is a success (with all these long time fans saying they're not gonna get it now, who knows lol) that Square can take their experience and do an 8 Remake. Always bothered me how much attention 7 got, meanwhile 8 is one of the best selling games in the series that deserves to be revisited and it just gets ignored. Aesthetically they are not that far apart especially taking Advent Children's character models into consideration, so I could see it happening.

This is how I always pictured cloud, I'm very sad they left behind the large eyes and anime aesthetic. It worked for the game.
