I mentioned it in another thread a few weeks ago, but did you notice SE removed all their music off iTunes? I was pretty sad about this personally.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Random thought: If FFVIII didn't have the crappy junction system but rather FFVII or FFIX's system, it would me by number 1 Final Fantasy game (or 2nd to FFX).

The same would be true for me if the game stopped after 1 disc.

Discs 2 and + are poor story-wise.

I think the junction system is really, really cool, but it took me a couple of plays to realize that. I would have loved to have seen it used again.

Actually, I had a hard time with the junction system. Even with everything maxed, Adel was still hard as hell (as compared to the final boss).

My beef with FFVIII's battle system.

Other than Squall, everybody else had really, really, really physical attacks. Like its ridiculous how my Squall can hit for 5k midgame, while everyone else is still hitting 800 damage. The fuck SE?

Timed hits for only your main character will do that.

Not to mention maxed out accuracy.

Junction system was neat but I tend to prefer games where the characters have more unique normal abilities and more widely varied stats than blank slates and customization porn.

I tend to play FF8 with everyone in critical health and just use limit breaks all the time. It is a bit challenging to keep everyone alive, but it is so much more satisfying.

That's exactly the issue with FF8's battle system... it's counter-intuitive and game-breaking. Junction 99 Ultimas to Strength = win. Keep everyone at low health and do constant limit breaks (or at least on Squall) = win. Don't level up = win.

It's just kind of weird in a not-good way.

At least that's how I remember it. Not sure if I have all the details right.

Has anyone else replayed a Final Fantasy game recently and found that they enjoyed it much more than when they first played it?

I've always loved FFVIII and FFX and have played both countless times, but I've only played FFIX once. Well, I started playing it again this year, and my enjoyment of the game has skyrocketed. I'm really not sure what's changed, maybe it's that besides TitS, I haven't felt very enamored by an RPG this year. I also remember being turned off by the characters when I played the game initially, but I'm finding them charming now, and the game holds up incredibly well after all these years. It looks better than some modern day RPG's that I've played on my PSP .

Honestly no. Typically I enjoy an RPG best the 2nd time I play it (if it's good enough to be played twice), as that's usually when a story can really be assessed, but after that it becomes kind of a rote experience, since everything is known. VII I always enjoy, but it's somewhat depressing now that I know everything inside out.

I actually tried to play IX recently (I first played it back in 2001). I was really looking forward to it, but the slowness of the combat really turned me off personally. It just seems antiquated to some extent. After something like XIII or even XII it was hard to go back to it.

FFVII for me, although it's taken a decade + Crisis Core to finally change my mind.

i actually really enjoyed crisis core, but i think it was the gameplay and side-missions that really did it for me. the story kind of sucked, but at least it was better than advent children. a little... tiny bit better.

I'd still place Crisis Core over FFVII. Zack was a very likeable character.

The story was bat shit crazy but sad nonetheless.

Not exactly recently, no, but when I first played FFXII I thought it was good if somewhat lackluster. Then when I played it a second time a year ago I thought it was amazing. Note that I also played the Zodiac version and there was definitely something about the English voice acting and translation (and the fastfoward button!) that really helped with my enjoyment of the game. It's at my top now (along with FFVI.)

That's exactly what I do too. So fun.

FFXII for me. Didn't like it much when it came out, but a few months later I picked it up again and loved it a ton. But that's the only FF that that's happened with. IZJS version is even better.

Usually my initial impression of an FF sticks for my subsequent playthroughs, or becomes slightly enhanced (this can happen both ways, whether I initially liked the game or disliked it).

Turning off battles- playing cards- using card mod to get magic to junction is the cool way to play ff8.

ff8 has to be the only ff where you can have random battles off within the first 5 hours of gameplay. (of the ones that have random battles)

but then how will you listen to the awesome battle theme
By that, you're referring to... Laguna's battle theme? :p

I want a Final Fantasy platformer now. Note that this is a symptom of me playing a ton of platformers lately.

Dissidia and Ehrgeiz are fighting games
Theatrhythm's a music game
Tactics games are SRPGs

Clearly they need a platformer now.

I've only replayed FFVII-FFX and FFXIII. I'd say FFXIII for the battle system and FFX for the story.

Can't wait for another FFX playthrough when the HD version comes out.

every single ff8 battle theme. all of 'em!

i Reaaaally dislike FF8 aside from the card system mini game and the music .
i find everything else to be bad or a chore.

i still finished it ( because everyone told me that the ending was to be seen )[i should have youtubed it ]...

But youtube didn't exist at the time so ....
it just didn't click to me.. i was bored while walking on the map when it didn't happen in either 5,6,7,9

EDIt : graphics are also cool ( quite good ) but i disliked the overall design

Shows how much I've been paying attention to XIV. Are you saying SE has been running an MMO essentially for free/at a loss pretty much this whole time?!

Jesus....

Okay, FF platformer might be a bad idea, now that I think about it. I can't help but to think that the cutscenes would dominate it and the gameplay would be sub-par.

I can't believe they haven't been charging anyone for that long!

I played a little bit at launch with my friend's character and it was an utter mess (and he ultimately went back to FFXI and then back to WoW). What kind of improvements have there been since?

I've been playing FFIX for several days now after postponing my purchase of the game since its release on PSN. The last time I went through the game was, what, 5 or 6 years ago? I've had a lot more fun this time around than I did my previous play through. I love some of the interaction between characters. I think I would actually preferred it if FF had no VA.

This is how I felt after playing FFXIII and watching FFXIII-2 trailers. But then I remember FFXII and FFT; WotL.

I'll give you that, but the script didn't do the actors any favors. I still didn't like Vanille and Serah + NORAH voice acting.

The script wasn't even really bad as far as JRPGs go.

But yeah, to hell with Vanille and Serah. :p Vanille's voice was just grating and she had a stupid accent. Serah bothered me less but she wasn't really in it a lot. We'll see how I feel about her after XIII-2. :p

make it a turn based platformer that uses dice rolls for jump!
I can actually see them doing this. D:

A Final Fantasy shooter would be go... oh wait.
I don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah, I like my characterization of some of the characters better (ie: how I read the text in my head and make up voices for each of them).

That wasn't really Georgia's fault, though. It was more a consequence of the shitty voice direction that SE seems to have lately. Outside of Vanille, she seems fine, and she should have used her actual voice rather than being forced to emulate Yukari Fukui's work.

Serah is going to bother me a lot in FFXIII-2, though. Ever since Omochao (despite having that turned off in Generations), I can't stand that voice anymore because I associate it with Omochao.
