The story's supposed to be a little mysterious, but it's far from incomprehensible.

Even if you can understand it, it's very badly told, with bizarre cutscene direction, terrible voice acting (English, at least) and hammy characters. I couldn't take any of it seriously.

I'm really hoping this Type-0 release will prompt SE to hurry up and port FFX/X-2 HD onto PC, it seems kind of weird that they weren't announced before this.

I'm pretty sure FFX (and maybe 7, 8, 9 and 12, too) are never allowed to appear on non-Sony systems.

Oh shit really?
Someone should let Sony know about 7 and 8 having been on PC for about 15 years now, quickly before it's too late.
EDIT: Hold the phone, 8 just had a re-release on PC not too long ago, what nerve, I hope Sony have their lawyers ready to correct this injustice.

Console exclusive.

Now if FF15 ever comes to PC that will be something. I think it will, but the time between console release will be longer than Type-0 wait.

Dammit, no. I am not triple dipping this game.

Tell me this before I buy the console versions, companies. Please. Stop making me buy console games when I don't have to.

Multi-language voices stuff like XIII, perhaps.
70gb still sound pretty outlandish, but yeah, SE like to have different uncompressed video files for each language.
From current review it also seemed still pretty early. Still no graphic option and limited area.

I just bought a 3TB hard drive for games... and there's already 2TB left :'(

That's exactly what they want, and why they're probably going to be hush hush about the PC version of FFXV until the console versions are out. I'd love to be wrong.

It's a shitty situation, but the best thing to do is to assume there will be a PC version and if there hasn't been one within a year or so after the console release, make a new decision. I plan to vote with my wallet until there's release date parity with the console versions.

Yeah, it's only a demo or "locked" version.
They can only repeat the same section/mission over and over. Didn't mention anything about graphics at all. They only emphasize on controller support, the game is played better with a controller. Someone has already asked the motion blur toggle on the comment section, let's see what they have to say.

No game uses uncompressed videos, it's just too stupid. (Minute of 1080p 30hz video takes ~11GB)

PS4 version is so awful I couldn't play for more than an hour. So I'll buy this when it's really cheap because Square already fucked me once on this game.

Game should be good with a proper FoV. Handhelds ruin fucking everything.

It's the truth. I was playing on a 42 inch plasma somewhat close (as I usually do) and the FOV was so fucked up the game was making me sick.

Obviously I understand that handheld games should have a ridiculous closeup FOV since most people have them right next to their face, but FF Type-0 HD was not a handheld game.... for shame Square. But ontop of that the tiny areas and constant zoning due to handheld limitations really blows. I can't believe I was so hyped for this game. I should have known better.

"Badly told" is subjective since it's very straightforward (though the second playthrough tells you the 'why' things are happening behind the scenes which honestly doesn't even matter that much - you're supposed to be experiencing a war from the cadets perspective which is limited)

If you need a story to give you every exposition it has the moment it would be relevant then that's on you. Don't watch Memento, etc.

The cutscenes I'll admit can be jarring, if you're talking about 1 on 1 NPC interaction, but considering they're ported over from a handheld where the usual fare is 2D anime busts with text boxes, it's really not that bad. The actual cinematic cutscenes are incredible.

The English voice acting is crap and that's why they gave you a choice to switch to Japanese with subs.

The characters make more sense when you don't look at them individually but more as one multi-faceted character. This might sound like a cop-out for good writing but it's not unprecedented. I'm hoping that if they go on to make a Type-1 on consoles/PC, they'll have more breathing room to flesh out the characters more. The cast is big, maybe too big.

Obviously I understand that handheld games should have a ridiculous closeup FOV since most people have them right next to their face,

Actually, it's quite the opposite. Handheld games tend to have a much lower FOV, because a handheld screen tends to cover a much smaller percentage of your vision. This is the same gripe many PC FPS players have with e.g. some of the the CoD games (most notably Modern Warfare 2 which started the trend of bad PC support from Infinity Ward) that get locked to 65FPS on PC, since monitors tend to cover an even greater percentage of vision.

The swinging around inherent to lower FOVs bugs people less (motion blur irregardless) on handhelds because of that same fact - that it covers less of your vision. When that low FOV translates to a bigger screen though, that's where it starts getting bad. An extreme example is if you turned around like a maniac with a pair of binoculars.

Type-0 HD's camera was adjusted, but I guess it wasn't nearly enough. (Also motion blur help)

You mean FFXV right ? :p
Lot of reasons I'd say. When it was revealed, they said they weren't crossing off such a release but that it would need a pretty high end PC. After that, they said that they'll think about it if they see fan demands (aka port begging). Now... we're left with FFXIII trilogy and Type-O HD. You can bet that FF Type-0 HD will be their test to see if a FFXV release is viable. The same goes for KH3. Both are developped on a DX11 environnement then downported to PS4/One, according to SE.

Yeah I meant XV.
Their claim that it would need a high end PC to run only strengthens my impression of why they don't develop a PC version. I wouldn't call a 750 Ti and a Core i3 even remotely high end, so I can only guess they'd be expecting it to require way higher hardware resources than they really need.

I think they will port it at some point. I even think we might see the KH games too. I wonder where Lightning Returns dissapeared to though.

They lost me if its 70GB, that's more than half of my cap. I had to make a serious life decision when I downloaded GTAV (nah it wasn't that serious) and a PSP remake doesn't warrant that much priority for me to give it that much space on my HDD. Going forward, it would be nice if certain things like uncompressed FMVs, audio, and language tracks were optional downloads.

Yep, it's getting outrageous. I don't have a cap on my net, but the highest speed available to me is 3Mbps. We're talking days of downloading for shit I couldn't care less about. It's stunning how out of touch developers are with this.

If the 70 GB thing is true (I can't believe it is) then I guess they heard people complaining about the video quality of FF13.

But rather than using a modern codec, the made 100 Mbit/s Bink files :P

According to the article, the 70gig report comes from the person playing the game at the demo station tabbing out to check how much space it takes up. So while it's the size of the demo build they have installed on those laptops, it doesn't really mean the final release will be that size.

wonderful. i expect no more than 30

Well, to be honest, when they said so, it was early 2013. :p

The only way I can really make sense of their statement is if they had no idea what the console hardware was going to be.
I honestly just think it's them being ignorant or just flat out lying.

Well, back on that statement, GTX750ti wasn't a thing :p

No one would have guessed that an i3+750i or i3+R7 265 would perform as good and sometimes better than the most powerful console available. Especially not devs from Japan.

Also, at the time, they were using a PC with GTX680 to demo Agni's Philosophy and FFXV. Hence why they were into the thinking of the need of an high end PC.

So yes, I think it's a mix of ignorance and also market change.
