Final Fantasy VII PS4 |OT| One last time before the remake

Just bought this. Haven't played it before (only FF game I played so far was X). Any advice on how to jump in as a rookie? Blind? Read some guide up front?

don't use any guide, just play and enjoy one of the games that people call the best game of all time.
if you cheat, you're just sucking the "game" out of it and watching a story unfold.

Maybe it's just my memory lying to me, but for the Scorpion robot fight isn't the proper boss music supposed to play? It gave me the generic battle theme for that fight.

Go in and cheat. The battle system and random encounters are terrible. The materia system is nice but you don't need it that much if you keep limit breaking. I'm skipping a lot of battles and enjoying the game so much more.

I hated getting into battles every 3 steps and now this is so much better.

Haha, quite the opposite direction you two are suggesting. Thanks anyway. I guess I might give it a shot blindly and without cheats first. If random encounters get too repetitive/obnoxious I will look into activating some cheats.

What do the Camera (L2) and Target (R2) buttons do? The only camera thing I can think of is the battle cam which you can choose to lock if you want?

The only thing I can think of for Target is switching who you attack/heal but that seems a bit pointless.

I'm about ten hours in now and loving it just as much as I did all those years ago. I have used the seats, usually the speed one for getting around and if I'm getting loads of random battles (I think my tolerance of these has reduced over the years) and I get fed up of them I will sometimes switch on the 3x Speed and Battle Boosts just to get through as quickly as possible.

I'd prefer to do that than from time to time rather than using the No Encounter cheat.

Trophies. Reading through this thread, I've apparently missed out the
Consummate Cross-dresser
one early on and from what I can tell, the only other one I can miss is
Best Bromance
much later on.

Apart from those are there any others that are missable because I'm trying to avoid looking at the actual list as it's probably going to make me remember stuff that I've completely forgotten and I'd rather be surprised.

Just impulse purchased this on PSN. It's a gift to myself for not spending hundreds of dollars during Black Friday.

More excited than I thought I'd be.

Also knowing that the cheats don't affect trophies Ruby and Emerald weapon here I come

I'd assume world map camera?

Seriously, I'd recommend that you just play it. Avoid as much information about as you possibly can, just let it happen.

At the end of the game, or before if you really want to, you can pretty much travel around wherever you want and if you've finished the game I'd say that's a good time to start looking at guides if you're still interested after 70, 80, 80, 1000 hours in. :)

Of course, it could be to centre it.

I could see myself using the cheats to get through the arena at Gold Saucer, shit was annoying.

Think that is the only thing in the game I have only done once.

I think the Target button pulls up those little arrows that show you where doors/exits are?

Camera affects the world map, going from behind to overhead. Target is for in battles, which shows which enemies/which parts of larger enemies can be targeted.

What do you exactly mean by this?
I never played a final fantasy game before and the only turned based RPGs I've played have been the handheld Pokemons. The FF7R hype has got me thinking to try this out. Any tips/suggestions for someone who is basically completely new this series and genre? Thanks

I'd hold off for now, apparently the music in the game is bugged.

It repeats every time you exit a random battle, an issue identical to the one in FFX HD on the PS4.

It took them months to patch that...

This is ridiculous. I haven't played past the part where you first get to the slums and this news just crushed me. How hard is it to get the music working right before you release the game? I didn't buy FFX until just last week because of the music looping glitch. It makes a huge difference especially in FF7 where the overworld theme is 6 minutes long. Unbelievable.

I am curious how big of a deal this game(s?) really will be outside of the hardcore gamer field. I was quite surprised when after psx, the gameplay trailer didn't even get to the top post of reddit's gaming subreddit, yet it is still resonating on GAF.
I'm just curious about the marketability of this title, and I wonder if that's an additional factor (beyond money obviously) why SE decided to make episodes.

I can't think of a single JRPG that would sell better in the west.

I don't like random encounters every 3 steps. It's frustrating and not fun at all. It is residue of an archaic game design due to the limited console hardware architecture of the time.

Play the game as you like. If you don't like it, click a button and stop it whenever you want. This system is amazing and I wish they re-released ff6 with this system.

Might actually pick this up now that I've heard about the cheats. I just do not have the patience for random battles anymore, even for games I've played before. Just want to revisit the world and the story, it's been so long that I don't even know what my opinion of it really is anymore.

Hmm anyone have a link I can use to get the date with Barret, and various things so I can get the other trophies?

Absolute Steve guide on gamefaqs. It covers so much ground that it's 99.9% impossible to miss trophies.

So has anyone found any way trophies dont work if you use the cheats?

The only thing I haven't gotten so far is date with barret even though I went on a date with him.

Edit: don't do the cosmo canyon glitch.

Damn the being allowed to change the window colour option and me foolishly believing that I would be able to improve on the default colour, messing around with it for ten minutes and ending up with something infinitely worse than the original that makes me feel like I've had a stroke.

And damn seventeen years ago where I did exactly the same bloody thing.

I can't be the only person who's played this game and been that naive?

Twice?

I own the disc.
I own the PSX digital version on Vita/PSP.
I own the game on Steam.

I bought this game the second my friend told me about the FF7 theme and the music.

I have a problem.

Already started a replay on Vita a few weeks ago...not sure I want to start over again to play it here.

I just want Barret's NA voice actor to be dropping the F-word and N-bombs every other sentence. Straight up OG. Bring back that whole 90's angry black man gansta vibe to the character.

i'll be sad if we don't get an exasperated "Where's it's fucking head!"

in other news...i have to choose between two things

Aerith's Limit or Bromance with Barret...

There is SUPPOSED to be a cosmo canyon glitch for Barret. It works, but some people are saying it glitches the trophy. I have no idea if this is true or not.

It's weird having an instant-win cheat mapped to R3, it takes the tension away from battles. I know i could just never press it but come on all i have to do is click R3
