Final Fantasy VII PS4 |OT| One last time before the remake

I expect Yuffie and Vincent to become mandatory in the remake. They're both cemented as canon characters as joining Cloud. Plus with the voice acting now they'd have to have multiple versions of cutscenes to compensate for each outcome (Yuffie but no Vincent, Vincent but no Yuffie, both of them, none of them). Just have a cutscene in a forest where Yuffie ambushes the party. And for Vincent, just have the exit to Nibelheim blocked until you get him.
they were cut down due to production issues so going forward they'll probably be mandatory.

Disregarding the obvious absence of the vocals in "One Winged Angel", I still contend the PC MIDI OST played on one of the higher end MIDI modules of the day is better than the PS1 version.

I really think the samples in FFVII are a step below the samples used in FFVI or even many SNES games (and for some reason the entire FFVII OST lacks low-end completely, something the SNES had no issue with - on games scored by Uematsu or even Koshiro), I don't know if that was a stylistic choice or Uematsu just coming to terms with new hardware.

Those sound decent, however, there are numerous problems that come about by relying on the sound card of each person. Back then, I'm sure a lot of people playing were using low quality cards.

Not to mention the fact that it sounds like the instruments need to be remixed. When you change the instruments, sometimes the not sounds different or trails off at a different timeframe, and it gives the song a completely different effect. Just listen to the bombing track- the intro of the original has longer notes, whereas that version the notes trail off faster, and it sounds weaker. Not to mention the percussion and piano sounds have a different resonance.

There's always a matter of preference, but I like to hear it as the creators intended. I have heard some great sounding remasters with new midi samples, but those were created with someone carefully picking out which instruments to use so that it sounded great, but also mimicked the original as closely as possible.

I prefer the originals.

EDIT: Also take note, the prelude track is totally missing the low end on the PC version.

Wish there was a quicksave/load function. I am scared that the savepoints are too far off each other.

I know I can use rest mode, but I would prefer not to use that.

Lol, I'm just at the part where Cloud is telling the story about going to Nibelheim. In the remake they better let you
go into Tifa's house and open her underwear drawer
like in the original. It will be so funny!

I was thinking this earlier today.

Speaking of Kalm and the flashback sequence, assuming Final Fantasy VII - Episode 1 will be the Midgar section expanded, do you think Kalm/Nibelheim will be the prologue to Episode 2?

If you want to just run through the game again to get the experience and not worry about the grind, the cheat mode is amazing. I always wanted to just run through and experience the story again without having to put all of the work into it once again.

Man, how did they manage to mess up the ost so freaking badly in this port? From abrupt cut-offs to using music in the wrong scenes. I love the extras an' all, but I think I'll stick with the psx ver. for future play-throughs.

Dont press R3. The God mode cheat completely ruins the game.

As someone who's played through FFVII probably 15-20 times over the years without ever cheating before, fuck that. I'm pressing R3. Sometimes.

I lied, I've used the item duplication glitch a few times...

Yeah, I've been using god mode from time to time because, honestly, I've played this game enough that I've earned a nice relaxing playthrough to just experience the story again.

So, you know, whatever, man.

Music in the wrong scenes? Where?

There's a couple that comes to mind, such as when you're trying to
recruit yuffie for the first time
or when the
sister ray is about to fire on diamond weapon
the music during that scene repeats twice and when
Hojo talks about using the sister ray to give sephiroth mako
the wrong music is playing. And those are just a small few that I can think of right now.
The majority of the inconsistencies happen during FMV transitions, though. When music is playing when it shouldn't or the music from the previous scene (usually battle music) carries on into the FMV.

edit:
The worst offender imo was when
Tifa is inside clouds subconscious, and you've just found out that Cloud was there the whole time and threw Sephiroth into the life-stream. The last part of that scene has it's music replaced with the Mako Reactor music

Are you fucking kidding me? WOW. The most impactful scene in the entire game is ruined.

I cannot believe this shit. There's no way I'm buying this game.

I can confirm that. I recruited Yuffie yesterday and I was pissed off that I was not greeted by "Descendant of the Shinobi". :(

The OST issues in this PS4 port is something I just can't overlook, so I stopped playing a few hours in.

I just got my PSX copy to run in ePSXe and damn it looks good on a big screen.

Even found a re-translation mod that I could patch into the PSX version lol

What the hell fam, that shit ain't right.

I need to compile all these bullshit errors and post it on the SE forums or something, this is just atrocious.

Disappointed in all this OST crap. I was going to dig in soon but Xenoblade has completely taken over my time. There's no way I'm playing the game with all the music problems; its bad enough that it doesn't loop properly.

Ah well I bought it for the theme anyway lol

holy shit. i guess i made the right call when i decided to cut my losses and go back to the ps1 version.
been replaying my jp international copy for the last few days on my old 20" tube and having a great time. :)

the faster loading is definitely the big upside to it, but for me it doesn't quite make up for the other issues. if the first 20 minutes put me off this much, i can only imagine what other weird oversights and inconsistencies will pop up in the next 20 hours. :P

The music stuff wouldn't bother me so much if I could come up with a reason why it's so different. Like did they have to manually go in and add all the music again? Did someone really decide that certain tracks sounded better than the old ones in certain spots? It makes no sense to me.

I also have no idea what goes into porting these games so maybe it's harder than I think.

I haven't kept up, but have they addressed the music problem and fixed it yet? Have people found any other glitches?
I'm too deep into Witcher 3 at the moment, so I haven't played this port at all yet.

I read that they patched the music looping issue on PC right? Did that version have the misplaced music as well when it came out? Because if they patched that too then I have hope.

I can confirm that. I recruited Yuffie yesterday and I was pissed off that I was not greeted by "Descendant of the Shinobi". :(

i just got yuffie and i had Descendant of the Shinobi...

it must be a random bug. all the music has been what it's supposed to have been so far for me. Perhaps x3 mode doesnt let it load fast enough?

Now that is odd. After having done it three times in the new version I never got the correct track. Still deserving of a patch imo

Holy shit what. The music is what makes that scene work so well.

ALMOST
DONE

What is actually being depicted in the End of the Road midgar scene?

The highway just ends? How? Why?

Holy crap, was not expecting them to clean up the graphics this much.

Um, yeah, Squeenix, I'm going to need a PS4 port of FF9 with similar treatment NOWISH.

Gimme gimme gimme....
