Final Fantasy VII PS4 |OT| One last time before the remake

So, does anyone actually pay attention to stat changes when equipping materia? I've never done so as I would always just want every materia slot filled as much as possible in order to always be leveling up something.

Do the stat changes make a considerable difference?

That's how I used to play when I was a kid, and it got me far enough, lol. But if you're playing now you can easily answer this yourself by just looking at how the stats will change, of course it should make a difference.

Gonna say as someone who has played the game through a bunch of times since it was out and only realising this was a mechanic this very playthrough that It doesn't really matter.

It's annoying. Don't DONATE the money. Just have at least 4000 in your possession before starting the fight.

There are multiple encounters at Fort Condor, beyond the first one. If you miss one it deducts 3,000 from the current funds (the guy can hold a maximum of 30,000). If they don't have the funds then that battle will be counted as a loss. Too many losses and you get kicked out of Fort Condor for good and can no longer do the minigame.
I don't know for sure but I think you can return for the final battle and still get the Phoenix materia, although maybe I'm thinking of the Bone Village thing.

There are a couple of occasions in the game (6 in total) where there is a Fort Condor encounter that you can't go and participate in even if you wanted to. So in order to avoid losses you need to have the funds at 18,000, even if you handle all the other battles yourself.

Edit: On the materia and stats thing. The penalties are so slight and the game isn't particularly difficult for the most part, that it doesn't really matter.

Thanks guys,

yeah I figured they didn't have any major impact, but I was wondering if you could use it to your advantage to create some cool "builds" or anything. But I guess that's more about just what the actual materia do than any stat changes

It's not a bug, it just isn't explained well. The donations are for when they fight and you aren't there to help out. The 4000+ is for you to use to deploy troops for that single skirmish.
Ive played past this point probably 5-10 times and never knew this... :/

Is all the money i donated a complete waste if i plan to do the battles manually??

There are 6 battles that happen that because of story reasons you cannot participate in, so you need 18,000 to be covered for those. After the last fight you get refunded anything leftover, so it's not a big deal to donate more than you need in the long run.

Picked up FF7 for the fist time a while ago on my PS3 and got past Midgar. I've not gotten back to it since and don't feel like hooking up my PS3 to beat it. So is it worth getting this version?

Might be worth it for the x3 Speed/No Encounters abilities the PS4 port offers. You could probably catch up to your progress in the PSOne Classics version in no time.

I don't think there's a real right/wrong answer, though.

Hmm, The no encounters thing does sound good. What little I played past Midgar got a little annoying with the encounters every two seconds so that's cool. I'll probably pick this up soon.

How the hell do you get this Chocochampion trophy? I don't want to move on before I get it but it just won't pop.

It's supposed to be a nonmissable, story trophy since you need to win a race to continue on. However, it seems like the trophy glitched on quite a few people. Try reloading an earlier save?

Ahhhhh bugger. I saved just outside so i'll keep a hold of this one and keep going back to it. Thanks for the replies :D

You should be able to race infinitely after the story race, in fact youll want to race a few dozen times during chocobo breeding. If it doesnt pop then, you may have to start a new file later

Do you think they will port the PC port of FF8 to PS4 in a few months?

Would like it just for trophies but I think this port was just FF7 Remake marketing more then anything.

I am hoping they do since ff8 is one of my favourite games and playing the pc port on ps4 with trophies will be perfect for me since I only played it back in the PS1 days. High chance it will since they said they are trying to get all the final fantasy games on as many platforms as possible.

Considering it took them like 9 mo this longer to make this port than it was supposed to, I doubt it.

Got plat trophy today, i guess the annoying trophy is the bromance, i had to begin again and follow the guide to achieve it.

But I wonder if they were actually working on it or just waiting to announce its release at the Playstation Experience.

I would love an FF8 port, or even FF6 with trophies.

But I doubt it will ever happen.

They both have PC versions so I'd say there's a good chance if FF7 sells well.

these games pretty much print money so i'm sure they'll whack together another port.

Ya, I'd say two of the biggest moneymakers for Barret's affection level are telling Don Corneo about Barret (if Cloud gets picked) and speaking to Barret before anyone else in jail at Shinra HQ.

Man, I forgot how broken Enemy Skills/Blue Magic is. All you have to do is get Aqualung/Beta/Trine, White Wind, and Big Guard and you're pretty much set for Disc 1.

and Disc 2 and Disc 3.
I played thru the game about a month ago, and I used those five Enemy Skills by far more than anything else in the game.
end of Disc 1 (or beginning of Disc 2, I don't remember), grind at that little valley after the Sleeping Forest by spamming Trine makes the rest of the game really smooth sailing.

Beta is hard to get. I end up getting killed or ejected from the battle and the skill doesn't come with you if you get ejected.

The game is so easy anyway that I never missed it.

So what is the popular interpretation of Red XIII saying in the ending,
Holy is having the opposite effect?
It certainly doesn't LOOK like it is having said effect. Is that a mistranslation? It seems weak, constrained, maybe too late, but definitely not...helping.

Assuming it is not a mistranslation, I always assumed that he was stating that Holy was also causing destruction on its effort to keep Meteor at bay. We don't know exactly the effect that Holy had on Midgar, but that thing was a gigantic energy wave. Perhaps it was also tearing the whole place down? And since Meteor wasn't budging, Holy was causing even more destruction? That's my best guess...

¯\(°_o)/¯

Yeah, but it pretty clearly disrupts the twister things that are spawning from Meteor. When Meteor busts through, the whole sky turns red again. It's hard to say exactly what's happening, there are so many factors...including the line just being Red XIII's incorrect interpretation. The ending has always been so cool to me in how open ended it is.

It is also possible Holy was allowing for just Midgar to be destroyed.

I will have to read some scholarly literature.

Yeah, it is weird. I checked the original japanese script and Red XIII still says "Holy is having the reverse effect". God knows what exactly was he refering to...

I absolutely LOVE Cloud's "full-circle" moment. He was always too weak to save Tifa when they were kids, but in the ending he lifts them both up onto the cliff with one frickin arm. Its so understated and so badass.

Missed Platinum due to Barrett date trophy and I haven't bothered with the GBike trophy. Got everything else though. I'll platinum whenever I replay it in a couple years.

I thought the idea was that
Holy, by itself, would have wiped out humanity in order to save the Planet. It's Aerith's intervention in the Lifestream that stops that and reconciles humanity & nature.

That's what I thought. Plus the only real mention of what Holy does in the Ultimania Omega is:

How exactly Holy applies its power once invoked and in operation is not
definite. It is simply known that "all that is bad for the Planet will
disappear."

Is it weird that a port of a game from 1997 might be one of the best games I'm playing this year?

I always lowkey avoided this game since the big Aeris twist was spoiled and I read people's opinions on the writing and shit. And now that I'm playing this I'm really happy to make this experience since there is a TON of stuff I never knew about; also, despite this looking dated, some parts of the game really look better than I imagined them to look like.

In a world where games compete in blowing their scope out of proportion and offering checklist open-world gameplay with physics integration for the lulz and almost ZERO initiatives to build compelling worlds and characters, this fucking JRPG from the 90s feels super fucking fresh to me. Ten hours in and I already care more for the these blocky characters than for pseudo-deep protagonists that look like humans.

I really wish that FFIX gets the exact same treatment, 3x speed and deactivating random battles make the game so fucking good and remove that barrier between today and 90s RPGS for me. They managed to make grinding FUN with those simple enhancements.

Really loving this, and I have a feeling I haven't seen anything yet (at Fort Connor right now).

yes. The improved resolution on real-time assets is tremendous. I'm picking up on little things that I missed out on as a kid playing on a 480i television back when it came out.

* you mean thinking about barret, so think about barret before you talk to tifa who's your jailmate.

you also have to be mean to tifa and aeris. if you do that you should get barret as a date.
