Personally, I like what I'm reading. Fingers crossed.

The OG FFVII is one of my favorite games of all time...and I just finished Crisis Core Reunion for the first time. This was easily the worst written and most cringe game I have ever played in my entire life. Why were people praising this game so much? I'm even trying to be modest here.....

It's definitely not the best in terms of story/etc. I enjoyed it for the gameplay way back when and I still do like the core gameplay for what it is but that's about it. As far as I was concerned it was dragging VII through the mud with all the ...

Please tell me these cancerous characters like Genesis and Angeal arent going to infect Rebirth.

.. stuff talked about above. Sadly, I don't think they will be able to help themselves from some shit like Genesis flying in at some point chewing on apples and spouting his Loveless bullshit. They have made it very clear first from Remake that they are off rails completely and then with Intermission they made sure we know compilation garbage is coming.

It's 100% disappointment to expect Rebirth to be faithful to the original and only cover what the original does. That's not how this game works... they're just more Final Fantasy games set in FF7's timeline.

If you don't enjoy the character banter/interactions and the combat/RPGs elements, and are in it just for the experience of going through the same game as the original but in today's AAA standards, you will hate it.

But that's not what the game is, the game stands separate from the OG. Maybe you think it's worse for that, but I don't. I still have the original and I can mod it (and did) to run at 60 fps, widescreen, better quality yet faithful models, and so forth. So this release doesn't take the original away from me at all. It simply gives me a different FF to enjoy, and one with amusing character interactions (I mean Cloud on a segway?) and fun battles and exploration.

This keeps looking so good. I’ve yet to be disappointed. In fact, I never anticipated them to go open world so it’s blown away my expectations

What I am doing is playing these games on the PS5 and collecting them when they are cheap on the PC.

I still need to get through the first one. I may just jump ahead to this one.

Should be a interesitng week for news.

Its 'Final Fantasy VII Day' on 31st of Jan, which is Weds this coming week to mark the anniversary of the original. This was recently registered as a national celebration day in Japan last year by Square. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

There have been press and fan events over the past 2 weeks under embargo and I believe the previews will release at some point this week. I don't think it's necessary with part 1 out, but they could also announce a public demo for Rebirth. Also announce that development has ended and the game has gone gold.

Nah, I wouldn't do that. The ending of FF7R is crucial to understanding why certain elements of FF7 Rebirth are the way they are.

Do yourself a favor and just finish through FF7R first. You will thank yourself later.

Is there any way to get that special Cactaur summon that is not available on the PS5?

There is like this Cactaur with a monacle.

Now a State of Play is being teased for the 31st(ish). I'll watch it but as soon as they get to FF7 Rebirth I'm either going to mute it and look away or listen to the audio only.

JENOVA give me strength to resist the hype.

Could drop a demo that day - we are about the same time out from launch as when they dropped the Remake demo (40 days, so not quite as far out but close).

Finally finished my FF7 run and am ready for Rebirth. Played FF7 OG -> Crisis Core -> FF7 Remake / Yuffie

FF7 Remake is so much better if you have recently played both FF7 and Crisis Core. It pulls a LOT from both.

Hamaguchi said they decided to use Unreal Engine 4 from the start for FF7 Rebirth! He said UE5 is attractive but there are still parts of the engine that are still being developed. So instead of waiting for functions they needed they decided to develop the functions in-house and use UE4 to get the game into players hands faster and with a good outputHe said there were different opinions in the team but he felt that was a point he could not waver on for Rebirth!

Wise move taking what they already had and building on it. I doubt we'd be getting Rebirth anytime soon if they moved it to UE5.

Finally official confirmation that Rebirth is being built on UE4. I felt like I was taking crazy pills for a minute there in this thread: https://www.neogaf.com/threads/a-ne...irth-has-been-released.1665851/post-268813443
Yup, what made it obvious that it wasn't UE5 is that they'd have announced it long ago it was making the switch, but they never did.

I'm glad they're taking a very good engine that's already delivered excellent results in part 1 and building upon that with upgrades and customisation. This beats using an incomplete engine that lacks what you need and on consoles that aren't powerful enough to use the feature set without big compromises.

Might have to get the deluxe edition, as supposedly the art book is 120 pages long and A4 sized which seems pretty substantial.

Also FF7 27th Anniversary today, along with the State of Play. 👀

I'm still not sure if it's a seamless world (like I read in some interview to developers) or it is split into big areas.
Using the UE4 I think it's the latter, but is there any confirmation about this?

I think it's split into big areas, but the connection between them is seamless and can be done on foot with, unlike XVI which had big regions, but at some point you'd have to revert back to the icon based world map.

I mean they will be split by design, since the OG was also split into pieces. So you'll have the Midgar area (Midgar, Kalm, Chocobo farm), the Junon area (Junon, maybe Fort Condor, though it wont be at its usual location). Both pieces will be seperated by the mithril mines, though they are on the same map (people could see the map during events). And then there will be the western contintent on another map, containing all the rest, maybe with some choke points, but probably all on the same map (Corel, Gold Saucer, Gongaga, Cosmo Canyon, Nibelheim, Rocket town, Temple of The Ancients). And then there is the part of the northern continent where the ancient forest and city are. This might be another map, though you probably can travel freely to it without a loading pause.
