Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

Personally, I am okay with this. Actually, I think this will be ultimately a good thing.

People are asking for the ultimate remake, you can't really go half-baked with FFVII. Can you fit ALL of FFVII's epicness, story, cutscenes (now voiced), quests, WORLD, in one disc IN FULL HD? Don't need to be a pro gaming developer to know the answer is NOPE.

If they went for a one-shot release, they would have to cut things down, to hold themselves. By going for episodic releases, the scope increases significantly, and we are guaranteed to get rich content and value.

Only downside I see is that we'll beat Sephiroth in around 2024 lol

Oh, and the pricing - they'll probably price each part as a full game -____-

It's the spoiler. That one.

That's quite a chunk and certainly enough to make a full game I think (you know, going by full 3D HD fully voiced etc). BUT I think ending there is the best case when you split the game up. I honestly can't remember much of FFVII (I know the main plot beats, story all that, just foggy on what is in which disc and how long they take). I really do see them ending Part 1 at the end of Midgar. You get to the end of the highway, look over outer wall and get a nice CG view of the field ahead and then "Next time on FFVII".

I just don't think Midgar is enough for a full retail release which people think these entries will be.

Each game might focus on a couple set pieces, the "highlights" of FFVII, so to speak. I'm guessing the focus will be on those pieces that pertain to the main storyline and give the whole thing a much more linear direction. They'll be able to leave out freeform world map travel, grinding and leveling up by fighting random monsters, ignoring several of the irrelevant "side" towns that are just there for worldbuilding flavour and additional shops.

No more Costa Del Sol.

I love all the weird and ridiculous stuff in VII and having it in full, modern graphics would only add to the absurdity and humor. I better get Remake Cloud riding Mr. Dolphin.
 
God-mother-fucking-damn. There just had to be a catch. It couldn't just for this one time be unadulterated, pure fucking perfectness. Please Capcom do not fuck up RE2:R in any way please. Fuck. Way to take the hype out of this. I mean, I can't actually believe that I just typed about my hype being taken out for fucking FF7: Remake.
 
OK, maybe it's just me, but the first thing I thought of when I heard this was gonna be multi-part was Kingdom Hearts Coded for mobile phones.

I guess this is the "condition" for all of this to get greenlighted at Square. They see the hype and they want to really capitalize on that so they're confident that 5+ million people will buy each part for 60$. They'll release one part each year most likely when they'll start releasing them.

What worries me about splitting it up is how they will handle the overworld, if it even exists or will work the same way. If they split the game up how they did the discs that isn't so bad leaves you some world to explore, but if they do it by earlier points they kind of have to close off the world a bit even if it is pretty linear for most of the game it doesn't leave you a lot of room for the side stuff.

I don't know, Square-Enix never ceases to surprise me. Who could ever think of an episodic remake? This honestly killed the hype.

Now, how can the other 2 hype games from last E3 be destroyed? Shenmue 3 as a shooter would be fun.
 
Hoping for a blu ray release of all of them once they're out.

But yeah, action oriented battles and this kinda blows. I mean, I do like action RPG systems like Kingdom Hearts etc. but it's not Final Fantasy VII!!!!
 
To remain true to the source material the story must be told over three discs! Seriously though this seems like a cash grab. I guess if you are going to remake the most popular game in the series then you might as well sell it 3-4 times. Not happy with this news, but hopefully Square proves me wrong...but I doubt it.
 
Knowing all the content that FFVII has im kind of ok with this if it means we get all the original content, but this looks like it will make things more lineal, things like Yuffie town or getting Vincent.

You jest, but I guarantee 100% that the full game will cost more than a full game. They cannot DLC it other than costumes without internet fury. They will price it accordingly for maximum profits. They only get one shot at the remake. No one will be asking for another. I expect £25 per episode, assuming there are three all in.

Doesn't seem like a big deal... Especially if it results in a bigger game by the end. I'm fine waiting for a complete edition release personally.

Gotta ask this as well?

I've seen many discussions on GAF and all around the web about various things PR has said. And many times people agree that the things PR said are just bad excuses or outright lies. Yet, when it comes to Final Fantasy VII people seem to reference that one interview were someone said it would take 10 years to make a remake and I just don't see why people believe that.

I played through The Witcher 3 last week, it took me 90 hours including the first DLC and I stopped bothering with minor side-quests about 60 hours in. That game is really huge, detailed and really beautiful. It took 4 years between The Witcher 2 and 3 and during that time they also released the Enchaned Edition of 2 in 2012. It's stuff like that which makes me doubt the "10 years" statement. Because it seems that Square-Enix itself is one of the few developers with that problem. As seen with Versus XIII/FFXV.

There's nothing to defend, because the user you quoted is just making a random guess.
We already know the cross dressing stuff is still in, so why wouldn't the rest of of the 'charm' still be in? Its baseless conjecture to think otherwise.

This is the same point I tried to make in the other thread. Witcher 3 is massive and made by a smaller team. Considering Square Enix has the theme/story, music, design and foundation already there, what's stopping them from doing it? And if the excuse is they would release too late, why the hell did they start developing this so late!

Everything with this company has to be so frustrating. We all make so many excuses for them because we worry they will ruin it if they don't take all the time in the world. Incredibly long development cycles with no confidence in the vision.

If we tried to do a HD Remake while retaining the quantity/density of FFVII, it would nearly be impossible to fit it in to a single game.

Nomura: If we tried to fit it in to a single game, we'd have to cut many parts of it and make it like a FFVII digest. Then there would be no point of doing a remake, for example, you'll be able to explore various locations in Midgar which wasn't in the original version. We really want to put in as much detail as we can if were going to do a remake. Of course, we'd have to cut some parts from the original for various reasons, but adding aspects unique to this remake (like the previously mentioned), with this amount of detail, the overall quantity is going to end up bigger. Many people are probably worried about the (release) )schedule and we also want users to be able to play it as soon as possible, which is also the reason (for multi-part).
 
A bit of a kick in the balls to hear this happen. Bit of a double edged sword. We might not get to see the whole complete game for some time, but on the flip side we will get to play it sooner, albeit in a smaller chunk and then have to wait goodness knows how long for the next part.
 
Another thing. We've waited 10 years for a Kingdom Hearts sequel. In that time we've seen the first two games re-released how many times.. We've waited 11 years since Final Fantasy XII. They had such an impact on me in gaming in past and like all of you I'm stuck hoping over and over that I can have back what made me love them in the first place, yet they just never seem to know what to do. Bethesda re-released Fallout 3 and called it Fallout 4. I LOVED AND ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE (along with millions of others). Why can't they just give people what they want I promise them it will print money. It looks like it's going to be linear corridors like FFXIII with KH gameplay.

We have to wait and see I guess...
 
Why are people complaining? Everybody should know that remaking such a behemonth of a game with current technology standards without stripping it of most of its content would be a daunting task. This is actually a very smart move, since the fans (me among them) will want everything to make it into the remake.

So by making Midgar more explorable than it has ever been implies the game is going to be 'linear corridors like FFXIII'? What kind of logic is this?
 
My only fear is that it doesn't sell well enough and they don't finish it.

I'm not happy with the episodic format(or actually the combat, why can't they do both real time and turn based??) But ill take it over no remake at all.

Behemoth? Why? Better ask to the fans. Maybe we want a direct way to solve the Midgard part instead making it a huge city with sidequest or other stories. Is this impossible with the actual tecnology? It isnt.

Makes sense. Episodic release on PS4 then full release elsewhere when it's all released.

Or... what would be funny... is Play it first on PS4... and continue on PS5 hahaha.
