An eight hour straight marathon of the game, bringing my time to 18:45

I swear to god, I hate going to
Academia 400 AF
it is without a doubt the worst and most annoying area of the entire game.

If you change the future, you change the past!

Ugh.... Technically that should make sense because if you change the future it's affecting the route of the past that leads to said future. But.... man.... XIII-2.... ugh

It's a little bizarre but
there actually is a theory that past/present/future exist as circular state of cause/effect. That is to say, the past is as it is because of what the future will be and the future is what it is because of the past. You cannot suddenly "have" something in the present or future without a past to support it
. Mind you, the game could still royally fuck it up and do nothing with that train of thought but it's not exactly that out of nowhere of a statement.

Who knew that year of metaphysics would ever come in handy.

Anyway, I got sidetracked with some monster infusing. This may be the worst thing I have ever decided to do, oh god must make perfect everything even if I'll never use more than one of them...

I've gotta say, that... actually makes a lot of sense.

It's extremely poorly designed. The easy, constant battles, enemies engaging you sometimes 2 steps after a prior battle, the inability to run away, and enemies aggroing when they are on a completely different floor makes it all quite terrible.

Oh no!!

The game crashed in a part and then the PS3 wouldn't turn off.

I turned the PS3 off, then turned it on and now the PS3 isn't reading any game disc.

It's just not detecting game discs!!!

What should I do?

Edit: It won't read DVD's, PS2 games or PS1 games or anything at all!!

I got the FFXIII plat out of stubbornness. I was pretty indifferent to it overall, but I couldn't leave an RPG file--especially for an FF--not 100% complete. I'm going for the XIII-2 plat because I'm... just a completionist like that... :/

yeah I have disease when it comes to this. Just for FF games though. It really bothers me if I don't 100% them. Here's to my 2nd plat. :p

Can't believe the disk drive had to fail NOW! What horrible luck! :(

Trying system file recovery which some people said fixes it...hope it works!

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
From the looks of it, the trophies seem less tedious than XIII's. XIII had the horrible treasure hunter trophy.

That was fast. I hope this game takes the time to tell its story decently in that amount of time. I remember finishing Mass Effect 2 in the same amount of time, but I felt satisfied by the end.
The story itself is short and simple.... it had the chance to be a really good one ( like FFXIII ), but the writing fails it ( like FFXIII ).

SE really need to improve their writing skills .

Methinks it is short because all the DLC will add onto the main experience and probably add an additional 5-10 hrs. I just hope (emphasis there) all those coliseum DC characters are being saved for one high level final scenario.

I really hope they finish the story in one big DLC.... I will hate them if they cut it down to milk it from 3 or more DLCs.

I swear to god, I hate going to
Academia 400 AF

Beside the ANNOYING 1000 battles... the city and the atmosphere is one of my all time favorite in the series <3

They said they'll replace my old launch PS3 with a new slim one for £110...pretty happy because I wanted to get rid off the phat anyway!

But no FFXIII-2 till the monday after this one.

I'm worried I'll forget what happened in the story!

Also, whats the best way to get some fast gil for the Casino? I'd rather convert gil into coins. I suck at those games. It took me over 400 times in the slots to get the fragment. Plus my chocobo sucks for the races.

Played a few hours, I'm pretty surprised at how good it is, I thought the demo was crap, and I'd heard some bad things before hand, but I'm enjoying it a lot. I even like the whole Quantum Leap-esque progression, gives the game a very nice pacing for being played in reasonable sessions. I am disappointed (and a little confused) by how you go from the immaculate polish of XIII to this often shabby production, and the music is beyond horrific while XIII's was great, but otherwise, it seems like an improvement in virtually every area. Pretty cool, I'm glad I picked it up.

Anyone else taking their sweet time with this game?

I'm at about 20 hours and still on chapter 3, although I'm about to go to a new area and I don't know if it will start a new chapter or not. I always play RPGs slooowly, I try to find everything I can in every location, lots of backtracking and double checking, farming (if needed) etc. It took me 100 hours to finish Dark Souls the first time and about 220 to platinum it. I saw people doing that in less than half the time, but unless I dislike the game the more time I can spend with it the better.

What exactly do you get the fragment for? I played for like 600 turns, got 777 once, but lost probably 3k coins overall.

I think winning coins. I got jackpot a few times. I started with 2 or 3k, ended up with 15k, but I got the Choas Crystal. Now I'm looking for that 1 gil item and the wild artefact. 20k casino coins = about 200k in gil? Ugh.

Just defeated Atlas and I'm just seeking clarification on the whole Historia Crux/Time travelling component.

So I unlocked the gates to
Suneleth and Yachis mountain range (sp)
. I noticed it enabled me to choose which location I visit next. Does the story change depending on the order I visit them?

Also, how do I visit Bresha ruins in different time periods and how will this alter things?

Win the catalog from the chocobo races; then go to the steppes and visit chocobolina and see what she needs for you to purchase the uhh durable? delicate? (the more expensive of the bunch). You'll get more gil from battles and item %s go to max.

I'd recommend going tonberry hunting as they give nearly 15k + items but you probably won't encounter them too often unless you have the fragment skill. Even without it, you may get lucky as I had 5 battles with the guy within 10-15 mins. Fighting the mobs in Bresha 300 will yield 1-1.5k per fight anyway while you're looking for tonberry.

Finished the game. Can a women's study major please write an analysis on the role of women in FF13 and FF13-2??

Major ending spoilers ahoy:

so yeah, when Serah died I gasped and SMH. I see what they meant by making this game darker than the last. When FF13 closes, we lose Fang and Vanille, at the end of 13-2, we lose Serah and Lightning. All the main female characters of the FF13 cast are either dead or crystals. WTF?? So FF13-3 will be a total sausage fest I take it. I liked the ending, but it brought me down. I hope there is some kind of resolution to this whole mess SE's created. They've totally got me on the hook for a sequel and I feel dirty for it.

Overall the plot is not as awful as folks made it out to be. It's interesting that this game directly deals with the aftermath of the "miracle" from the close of FF13. It was a miracle to our heroes, but it fucked up everything for Yeul and Caius. Lightning and co fought to change their destinies, and in doing so pretty much screwed up the space-time continuum. And Serah and Noel fought to save the future but instead fucked it up more. Whoopsies! I actually like how messed up and ironic everything turned out to be.

So.. yeah. Highly doubt DLC is the appropriate way to continue this whole saga. Shit gets too real. In any other FF the ending would be
the middle point of the game, where you're like "ohhh shit" but then your party rallies and gets it done after some sidequesting and exploration (ie. the world ending in FF6, Disc 2/3 of FF7, etc.) But Square, being both shrewd and sadistic, chose to close out FF13-2 with this moment, pretty much guaranteeing a buy of 13-3 from those of us who care about the outcome. Evil bastards.

That's the problem. I can't win chocobo races. :p I only have a yellow chocobo. Like a 45 com. I've seen a toonberry, but then, I wasn't strong enough to take it down.

I did all that post game anyway lol. If you want to win races there are two chocobos
you can find a golden one in uhh, death's world? he's in a floating treasure box on a small mountain, have to do moogle throw to get it
while the other
is in Academia 4xx, the room where you meet Hope and Alisa, the one with the green cocoon; I think you need the upgraded mog throw/capture, throw mog inside the globe to get a silver chocobo

as for racing
level the gold one to 45 and only use him for 600m races. Dahaka Cup (?) is the one that gives you catalog. Upgrade silver to level 45 and use him for races longer than 600.

If you don't want to wait, I think a green chocobo works for a little while. Not sure if you can win the elite races though.

I've seen a green one! I did actually beat its ass, but he didn't drop a crystal. I'm assuming its a rare drop. Don't even have that area opened up for the Gold one.

Oh nice! The green hologram of cocoon, and you get the silver one? I have the upgraded throw and finding mog abilities. How should he be leveled to win races?

Argh. Just looked up how to get the various unlockable XMB themes and noticed one you have to have a FFXIII game save. Sucks my FFXIII data was on a now broken PS3 which I sold =\

Has the framerate improved with the retail versions? So far, I've only tried the 360 demo and the framerate in that town with rain was viciously bad. FF XIII on the ps3 had a pretty stable framerate in comparison.

Nope. Wait until you get to Sunleth. Though it gets better after
defeating the big flan and the little ones go away

There's another upgrade on top of those two mog skills and I thinkthat's what is required to get silver.

I didn't intend to use either one for fights though and I don't know if there's a definitive way to level them up. I've heard that STR affects speed, HP affects how many times you can race them and MAG is their stamina. I don't know how true that is. I had trouble winning some elite races (the ones with medals next to the race distance). But all in all, I got the prizes that I needed without too much trouble.

Nor do I know if the chocobo skills in races are random or if they're all the same for each type.

Jesus, so there are times when it gets even worse huh. How's the ps3 version? Same lower overall framerate than the original? Wonder what's the reason with the low performance, visuals don't even look like much of an improvement to me.

Framerates been pretty noticeable in the retail too (PS3 here). Not complete shit but a bit annoying considering FF13 seemed to run better.

It's bad at times, though my PS3 is almost 3 years old, it could be that. Thankfully it has no screen tearing or anything, so I can live with it. The framerate is fine in battles though. Those look 60fps or something.

How long are chapter 5 and 6? I'm still in 4 with 33 hours. I just unlocked another Oerba, so I'm not going to 5 just yet.

5 is the shortest.

Reasons *minor spoilers, omitted some stuff*:
You're practically stuck in the void with no way out, this part is more story focused.

I just started 6. I'll continue so tomorrow because I've played FFXIII-2 for 11 hours straight ._.

Battles are more stable, but it's 30fps at best.

Nevermind then. My Yellow(I bought him some shades at the Casino) is a pretty good COM, until I go get that Kikchu everyone is talking about. The only SEN I have is the Pulsework Knight. :p I actually haven't needed a SEN in the whole game so far. Except for the big ass flan.
