FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

Oh, I used the two I had on different gates. I have no clue where to get another. Casino perhaps? I don't even have a silver or gold choco yet.

They're hiding all over the place actually. There's one in Sunleth, Oerba, and even in the floor where you can't proceed on Augusta Tower! Most of them require Mog Throw. If anything just look them up in a guide, they kind of take a bit of effort to find.

I'm kinda surprised people are saying this game is too easy, just hit episode3 and got stonewalled by the big flan, backed up, used the eclipse fragment and am now getting murderized by Behemoths and the mid-boss in Yashas Massif...

Time to back up and grind I guess...

You're not meant to fight the Behemoths, use the lights to avoid them.

So far XIII-2 > XIII.

Academia
night and day looks so damn insane.

This was exactly what I was looking for in XIII's world.

Thanks for the info, found a youtube vid showing me two that I didn't have yet.

The design of this game is God-awful. I'm stuck at a point where I need to buy the wild fragment in Serendipity for 10,000 chips. Thanks for punishing me for exploring by making me go through hours of tedium because the odds for the slots are so terrible. They couldn't at least try implementing a mini-game that's fun?

It's utterly ruined something that I was finding quite enjoyable. It would have took no effort at all to restrict the gates you were able to open until you got through those required for the story, or made all the fragments accessible by the time you needed to open the specific gates.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
If XIII had XIII-2's gameplay content + Academia, it would have been one of the best FFs ever for me. :p

I'm not sure at what point in the story you are required to buy that Artefact? I am at the end and I never had to buy that Artefact. If you want 100% I think you need to, though.

There's a point where you need to open up 3 new areas to gain some items in order to move the story forwards. If you've spent your wild artefacts on opening other gates then you might end up needing the casino one.

Stupid Exoray. Spent an hour running around on the beach of New Bodhum trying to find that slug. Took forever!

Did you try turning Battlemania on? I got it right away when I landed on New Bodhum + the monster's crystal.

I think people are just saying silver chocobo is best because you can get it a lot earlier and start chocobo racing during the main questline, rather than waiting til right near the end for a gold one.

No, the silver chocobo is the best racer. Speed is determined by the Strength stat and stamina is the magic stat. They max out at 800. Silver's strength/magic are 823 and 799 respectively. Gold's is 836 and 663. Infuse the Silver with Lvl. 1 pulse gladiator (second wind trait), lvl. 1 cactuar (sprinter ability), lvl. 24 microchu (marathoner and health nut). However health nut ensures you won't be in poor condition so you won't be able to win coins that way so that's up to you.

Have you collected every artefact up to this point? I had to fetch a couple (one in Oerba 200AF, another in Archlyte Steppe) but I still didn't have to buy it.

For reference I took my time exploring worlds, I have about 100 fragments and I haven't beat the game yet.

Is there anything that requires the use of the long jump skill? I suppose it cancels the need for a Chocobo, that's all I can think of.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

I've spent a few hours doing races with this setup, and I would probably recommend just doing the Microchu infusion to everyone. I have yet to effectively win a single race where my Silver is weak with a fairly large win bonus. For the time investment, a constant stream of 2.2 odds just seems more efficient. I get excited when my odds plummet to 10.x for a race due to poor health, but it never works out well and suddenly I clean house again when my chocobo is rested at 2.2. Marathoner would likely be more effective than the health nut repercussions for sheer efficient wins, especially for the 1800 races which the Silver Choco sucks at by default.

Sucks that you can't bet more than 100 on your prize winning chocobo also. I only needed to complete 3 or so full seasons to buy the required fragments and artefact from the race shop, but that was still a good 2-3 hours(not to mention the time spent gathering materials and upgrading Silver) So probably 5-6 hours was wasted on this dumb as shit sidequest. Fuck the casino, never again FF.

A fragment skill that increases the odds of getting encounters against rare monsters/distornions.

Bummer, yeah, I didn't have that! Sure would have saved some time.

How many fragments do you need before that skill unlocks? I only have around 40 something. Just started doing clean-up before the last episode.

If you have any interest in postgame farming, there's no reason not to infuse your chocobo with a Microchu. I have like 3 million gil left after farming Yomi for trapezohedrons and I've spent probably another 3 million on Potent Crystals because I had nothing better to do with the money.

It's for getting 100% explored on all maps and getting the related fragments in Academia 400AF
.

The only other fragment that's left is in an area that's no accessible until the story progresses. I'm confounded by how shit like this could get through testing, hell I'm perplexed with how the slots made it into the game as they are.

You get it after completing all maps for all areas in the game and delivering them to that lady in Academia 400 AF. EDIT: Oops, just noticed laika09 beat me to it.

Finally, Yomi is dead. Thanks for the tips guys. Just did SAB/SAB/SEN, then when he was in protective mode I did MED/MED/SEN. Slow, but it works.

Now just need that optional boss in Oerba.

Well, did it. Platinum is mine, and it only took a week! 51:49 to be exact. Actual time is probably 50 hours, I left the slots on for a long time thinking I didn't get the fragment, but when I checked, I already had it so I feel like I wasted around an hour. This is probably one of the most fun platinums to get though, nothing felt tedious save for the slots.

I know I'm in the minority, but bring on XIII-3!

There's a point where you need to open up 3 new areas to gain some items in order to move the story forwards. If you've spent your wild artefacts on opening other gates then you might end up needing the casino one.

It is entirely possible that some people might get stuck here. Opening the wrong gates isn't entirely the problem though; of the five required gravitron cores to progress, four are accessible from plot visited areas, with the fifth requiring an optional location to visit(of three potential zones). It's very likely that anyone wasting Wild Artefacts will have access to at least one of those locations.

The problem is finding the Wild Aretfacts if you miraculously don't have enough. Several are hidden very carefully, and if you trailblaze through the story you may need to spend some time searching in random periods for missing artefacts. Keen observers shouldn't have an issue finding them, but again, critical path players will likely not notice many of the hidden ones. Based on the lack of comments though, it seems to be not a critical issue for most. I think I had around eight ready to go when I hit that quest as I was very careful to save them up for the endgame, but started unlocking them all once I hit that quest, and this is without buying the one from the casino.

I had a mini-rant on Twitter before until I gave up trying to think about it but now it's bugging me again. I must've missed something in XIII to not know this (or it didn't explain it) but how can Serah and Noel use magic if they aren't a L'Cie?

I thought of this all when Noel said to Serah about (Sunleth Waterscape spoilers)
Snow choosing to become a L'Cie again to gain the special abilities needed to save Lightning, Vanille and Fang

I thought Serah could have the abilities because she was a L'Cie but that doesn't explain Noel or why
Snow became a L'Cie to gain them if he already had them

It's like I'm back in 2010 playing XIII for the first time.

But maybe I should finish the game before I try to think about all this. :p

You're not going to like this answer but the Datalog points this out (I think a Fragment, not sure which one).

They just can. Well, in Serah's case she "channel's her inner crystal" or some BS.

Honestly that's the best answer I could derive from it. LOL

It was explained in the datalog near the beginning of the game that some humans who traveled to Pulse learned how to use magic without becoming a l'Cie, and they consider it an everyday ability to help them get through life on Pulse.

Ah, I see. That's... disappointing.

Christ, you only need 5 cores to progress? This may be the stupidest thing I've ever done in a game, I thought that you needed all of them... There's 3 hours of power wasted.

Thanks for the help though, saved me a lot of frustration.

Loving this game so far. Only 13 hours in and opened up my first alternate timeline. Amazing how much time passes while you're playing this game. Way too many "whoa it's past midnight already" work nights for me.

Has anyone found a use to reverse time in any locations? Is it really just to try different dialogue options? After you beat the area, you can always go back, right? So what's the use?

So, there's been many conflicting reports about this: if I want a chocobo that can easily win any race, should I go the silver or gold chocobo route? (and where exactly is the gold?)

I argued with some people before about this. If you pay attention, Lebreau explains it in an optional cutscene. A datalog entry explains it a bit more. And a fragment acquired during Episode 5 gives an even better explanation.

I wish they used the End of Time instead of the Historia Crux, would have been really cool, imagine Spekkio's room as the arena.

Do you know what the fragment says? Or at least which fragment it is?

It's a mandatory fragment that can be acquired in Episode 5
When you have to speak to Yeul a couple of times in the Void Beyond, the fragment basically says it has to do with energy leaking through the rifts in time, something like that

EDIT: The exact fragment is
Yeul's Confession : When the timeline was changed and history broken, fissures appeared in the wall that separates the spirit and the material. The crystal power that was once bestowed only upon the l'Cie was released, and it permeated deep into the soil. Now normal humans can spin enchantments and spells - if they know how.

Just defeated the Long Gui for the first time in a lovely time of 32 minutes. Take in to consideration I only have 3 roles maxed out per character, I thought I did very well.

I want to fight it again in the future but will it give me the same amount of CP each time? Or is it lessened in subsequent fights?

Have you done Yomi? There is a cheap trick for him.

Well you will get the regular CP for beating him but not the 10k you got for beating him the first time since that was for the fragment for beating him.

At least bi-monthly was my understanding...

Oh ok.

I have like 145 fragments. Slowly getting there, how do you guys 100% so fast? And I play daily too. One thing, getting the map completion on Acamdeida 500 is a pain in the ass. I can't figure out how to rotate those on the left side to get to those platforms.
