FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

Question:

With monster infusion. If I infuse a monster with Strength +20% Can I later still get a higher strength boost without wasting another passive ability slot? I've heard I am only allowed 10 spots and only want 1 for my strength boost.
There's a guide on Gamefaqs that lists the "priorities" of the passives. Higher priority passives will bump off lower priority passives.

As for the +xx% bonuses, I believe that if you infuse two similar bonuses with different numbers, the higher number bonus will stay but you will get a yellow lock on that bonus (meaning it won't be dropped).

What's the general consensu on Caius/ Noel here?

I agree it was an excellent combo. I blame FFXIII's reception & partly FFXIII-2's storytelling for many of the genuinely great things it's done being simply overlooked or being seen with such a shroud of negativity that it would be hard to appreciate.

Caius sits there with Sephiroth as my favorite villain in the series. I like Noel, but not that much though :p

i like caius ..because unlike much of those ff antagonist , he actually got things done !!!

He is right there alongside kefka as my favorite FF Vilains.. Sephiroth is way below IMO..
Now i think his motivations are laughable ..but he did some crazy stuff "vilain-like" and that's something i don't see much from Final fantasy IMO.

Yeah you won't believe how many of my friends won't even consider FF13-2 cause they were pretty burned with FF13. I tell them this is better but no, it has s still that FF13 stigma.

I was impressed.
Caius was much more interesting in Barthandelus and is probably my favorite in general.
I initially hated the idea of having a new character be the protagonist in the sequel but Noel carried the game well. As did Serah.

Lol I'm the only person on the planet who loved Barthandelus

he was so trolololol-ish and like The Emperor (from star wars...my fav villain)

You're not alone.

Barthandelus approached Aizen levels of trolling with his "At what point did you think that I wasn't using you" bullshit.

isn't the city beautifull ?

IMO it is the best sci-fi city done in any game on any platform EVER. That includes Blade Runner, DX, DX: HR, Mass Effects etc.

For once it is HUGE. You can actually get lost in there which is not that common in RPGs (last time I got lost was in Athkatla in BG2). Secondly it is GORGEOUS. The polycount and draw distance is MASSIVE. Framerate takes a deep hit especially if you stand in front of the Academia building and look back at the whole city. The art in there is impeccable both during the night and during the day. Thirdly it is full of people with enjoyable NPC chatter. And by the way try throwing a Mog on the escalators... fun occures. Fourthly each part of the town feels and looks different. Grand Avenue is very glam, New Town is kind of "I want to live there" japanese place, Central Bridge is pure awe etc. The city feels very vertical with all the different levels you can get to. Lastly the city has coherent and very good architecture. There are some pretty nice and unique buildings scattered around it with actual geometry even in the background.

The only downside to Academia is utter lack of memorable music. Such a shame and lost opportunity. I still remember Archades theme.

Realistically speaking, are you people still expecting Toriyama to write & direct another big, main Final Fantasy title?

Nope, simply not possible.

If Sakaguchi was fired for The Spirits Within then surely Toriyama shouldn't be allowed to take such a big role on a mainline title again!

*not to say FFXIII/XIII-2 is anywhere near a disaster like The Spirit Within...but if we are looking at FF strength...FFXIII made the brand loose a lot....FFXIV is merely S-E's scapegoat*

I asked that because Toriyama still seems to act like the "lead" of his team, especially when he announced the production of a future project.

Oh he can be lead of the team...but that doesn't mean he'll work on a main FF.....he had his chance. And we don't know what "team" he's talking about

He also directed FFXII : Revenant Wings for example with a small team

We don't know what is encompassed in this word "team" which he used.

Yes. Toriyama is the head of S-E Japan's scenario team, and there is no reason to see why he won't continue to be. Kitase also speaks very highly of Toriyama's ability to manage a project as director, leading a team efficiently.

Gah, every time I muster the will to play this, the thought of having an incomplete game deters me. =/ I really do not want to purchase the DLC as is, but the thought that MAYBE a complete pack will be released for cheap makes me want to wait before I go ahead and just play and beat the damn game.

I"m nearly 20 hours in, and the combat, including all the bosses so far, is incredibly easy. I've never even used the buff and debuff roles at all. I remember the bosses in 13 being pretty hard. Is the combat this easy throughout the whole game?

What's the general consensu on Caius/ Noel here?
I've expressed my like for Noel a lot in this thread.

Er... As for villains, there aren't a lot of villains in FF that I like. Kefka's alright. Wake me up when they have a Manfroy-esque villain or a Luca Blight in a mainline FF.

Some of the later bosses are harder, last fight is pretty damn hard too (SEN/SEN/SEN) is a must. But does it require SYN/SAB? I don't think so. Can be beaten while not 5-starred without any SYN/SAB help.

But the real, manly challenge comes post game. There are post game bosses harder than FF13 post game bosses.

Talking more about his direction role than storytelling role only, but: Fan/ press reaction. Sales going downhill faster than normal. Developers having to admit they needed to improve on every aspect for the sequel to bring back fans, and still release a new product that barely tops 8/10. Excuses, lots of excuses, like bad project management before, low budget this time, etc, is probably what will keep Toriyama in his role for a few more years, or at least one more chance.

This will especially get worse if SE's more "secondary" teams for big FF games manage to keep making 9+/10 games, which will hype back the fans for an eventual disappointment for the Toriyama's FF to follow.

I hope Jihl has a 5% capture rate too! It'll be fun to repeat the same fight for hours and hours!

The funny thing is that Famitsu actually covered this topic. Apparently Jihl has a 10% crystal drop rate. Unfortunately her PSICOM subordinates do not drop crystals. Meh. Jihl is a Saboteur who is balanced in both physical and magic.

When considering the setup he's given and how he's written, I would be amazed if he didn't get things done.

He basicly manipulated everyone from start to finish.

Anyway i've decided to quit this nonsense know as "slot machines" and focus on chocobo races ... i'll probably gather a lot of pieces ( casino coins ) and waste them into that abyss ...

After getting owned by Yomi i decided to just finally take a proper sentinel monster i have 3 potential candidates for this job i guess i'll go for it with chaos weapons.

The chapter 5 caius paradox fights are a joke ... ( in a bad way )

Ah sexy. She sounds like she is going to be a PAIN to fight but a good well-rounded SAB would be welcome. Are there any legit pics of the fight yet?

"Manipulate" is a bit too strong of a word when he essentially
cannot lose. He lives? He destroys the timeline. He dies? Whoops, Etro gave him her heart, so he dies, chaos gets unleashed, destroys the time line, and yet still manages to live. At the very most, his "manipulation" is only that he waited slightly longer for Noel to get stronger so that he just doesn't inherit the heart.

I was referencing to him

- manipulating Alyssa in her dreams
- Forced Noel to kill him no matter what
- You want to save cocoon people by making an ark ? I'll throw cocoon at your ark to destroy everyone !
- Trapping both in the void so that noel won't inherit etro heart ( that's how i see it )

BUT yeah the "can not lose attitude" is pretty much annoying otherwise ..i had to fight him so many times !!
