FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

The save doesn't have to be cleared.

You get a PS3 theme, some monster items and an item that gives you better luck in the casino.

Dunno which version to get. Should I go with slightly better graphics or achievements? Also have a FF13 save file on 360 and not PS3. Is the casino lucky charm bonus worth it?

Almost here guys. :) Who's gonna play all day Tuesday? I know I will...
I wish! School/work, and it's also a weekday, so that means no console games until Thursday night. :D

(Oh screw that, I'm going to find a way to play a bit on Tuesday night... and Wednesday afternoon. It's a new FF, after all.)

The bonuses aren't that great. I'd take a bit better framerate and clean FMV over achievements.
If you really want to you can download a FFXIII save and it'll read it anyway.

The framerate in the 360 version is worse than the PS3 one? It's not so hot in the PS3 version, well, the demo had some problems, but wasn't that bad.

Thank god we didn't get a Leona Lewis song this time around. There aren't enough eyerolls in the world for that promo video that she did fake-playing 13 and how she chose to the game because Lightning is a strong female lead.

Haha, yeah it was absolutely terrible. At least this time they actually went back to making the English a variant of the Japanese song.

Yep, I wanna get the better version this time around. Know where I can download a PS3 save file?

Gosh, that was a load of crock. :lol

The instrumentation of that Leona Lewis song wasn't completely awful and the climax of the instrumentation in that song flowed well with the scene, but Kimi ga iru Kara ultimately fit better.

The song had a real message about showers and makeup duder. It was deep.

I finally played the demo.

I'm glad to see they now have QTEs in Final Fantasy. I was a little disappointed when Serah and Noel didn't team up to slowly rip the twitching giant's head off it's shoulders while blood spurted everywhere. Whenever I see QTEs without excessive brutality I get sad and miss God of War.

The whole thing really does feel like they took a page straight out of FFX-2's playbook. Mission-based areas, loads of sidequests, free roam of locations, etc. And I guess time travel.

Motomu Toriyama: "I don't know how to cohesively follow up a game with a conclusive ending, so time travel!"

The biggest problem with FFXIII was the first 20 hours being tutorial. Everything else wrong with FFXIII, like 78. Pretty Line Syndrome, incomprehensible plot which required you to study the Datalog and read a web novel that wasn't translated from Japanese to understand it, cast of annoying characters, and Deus Ex Machina ending because the game was 3 years late and they still didn't know how to end it, none of those were that important compared to not actually being able to play the full battle system for 20 hours. It's not as if the battle mechanics were THAT COMPLICATED in FFXIII to begin with. FFXIII-2 dispenses with all that and lets you play right away it seems, which is kind of nice.

I liked the Leona Lewis song. Maybe not for the game, but as a song, it was pretty good.

Anyway... 2 days! Got it pre-ordered at newegg, CE guide at Amazon, hopefully both get to me Friday. I have a busy week, so I'd prefer they didn't get here before then.

Someone before was asking around about the villain, Caius. This is what Gamespot thinks of him in the review they just published yesterday:

Caius is a compelling villain, in part because his villainy isn't the typical in-your-face, menacing, power-hungry gnashing of teeth. It's sorrow that drives him, and as the source of this sorrow becomes clearer, your empathy grows. His emotions are distinctly, authentically human, and he isn't inherently evil; thus, he is a much more interesting villain than the usual frothing maniac. Caius gets his chance to chew the scenery a number of times, though where male characters are concerned, your focus is generally on Final Fantasy XIII-2's other lead: Noel.

Haha, oh dear, I read this and had to see it for myself. Thanks for the laughs!

So he's a Tales villain.

(One of Tales of Xillia's bosses is named Gaius. lol. Caius just happens to be the Late Latin pronunciation of Gaius (see: Caius Iulius Caesar -- you'd pronounce this as "Gaius Yulius Kaiser" in Classical Latin because the Latin alphabet at the time when praenomen were being developed did not distinguish between the letters G and C, as the written 'g' was not introduced in written alphabet yet). In reality "Gaius" is how you would pronounce it.)

But honestly, I'm okay with Caius for now since he's voiced by Liam O'Brien... who unfortunately isn't using his Dist voice, but I'm fine with that.

Yeah... Liam O'Brien is really the fitting VA for Caius, he is such a bad-ass. I hope the character gets enough screen time, last villains in FF were pratically non-existent in that regards.

I also hope that Caius will have enough screen time. We will see soon enough (well, in two days for you US players ; I'll have to wait a little more here).

I've been following the thread for a while (a long while), so now that my account is validated, I want to thank you, fellow NeoGAFers, for the information you provided. Thank you also Kagari for your great review.

I'm still hoping that the in-game tracks won't be changed for the US/EU release. We "lost" "Invisible Invaders", but it seems that the others remain unchanged (though I'm still wondering if the "Crazy Chocobo" theme is intact, since I'm not sure anyone here could verify). Well, my fingers are crossed.

^ based on the IGN live stream, most other tracks seem to be intact. I'd be surprised if anymore were cut.

I don't know why Crazy Chocobo would be cut, seeing as how it's one of the most Anerican tracks to ever appear in the series.

Whenever I hear Liam O'Brien I can't help but think of Dr. Stahngun from Professor Layton... Oh, and Luke's father. Vincent's friend in Catherine, as well, I forget his name.

The story may be disjointed but developing a compelling villain is the one area XIII-2 completely nails.
And Liam was also inspired casting as he's got the vocal chops to really own the role.

I was thinking about that yesterday. What a joke of a video. Lol!

OXM's review too speak of a good story with a very good cast, I really think people should just judge this aspects by themselves and not relying much on reviews. We all know we got different sensibilities, histories, expectations ect. in regards to that, so it's difficult to trust another's guy opinion on something like this. When many told me XIII's story was shit infact I blinked, while I recognize faults in it, I had many emotional goosebumps during the course of the story, and I'm thankful enough to had some, that's why I can say "I liked it".

I haven't really cared about this game at all, but watching the GT review, it looks really good for the most part, I'm looking forward to it at long last.

FFXIII's story was pretty nice... Until the very end, where all hell broke loose, and when deus ex machina were flying all over the place. Oh well, that's not the subject.

Anyway : I'm not expecting much from FFXIII-2's story. I'm looking forward a good game with a good gameplay, but I've given up any hope about the scenario.
