Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - Beta Phase 3 Impression: Phase 4 August

My brother was having some issues with the level 10 lancer quest. Haven't played a lancer, so can anyone comment on how you complete that quest? Said enemies spawned as soon as he beat the previous ones, making it impossible to pickup a stone or some such.

He may have tried pulling things out of the circle to kill them then running into the circle, causing things to respawn. Gotta just go balls deep and stay in the dark circle.

Has anyone bought the digital version of this from Amazon? Do you get the early access code? I'm trying to buy two copies, and the wording seems kind of fishy. It almost sounds like I can only get 1 code, and only if it's "Shipped and Sold by Amazon".

I also checked GMG, but they only let you buy one copy.

I don't think the Lightning thing will have any reference to XIII. I highly doubt this "Lightning" somehow crossed universes or something. The Lightning in XIV may look and act like the Lightning of XIII (well, maybe not even the act part), but I would bet she has her own back story within the world of Eorzea, and if you can get past the fact that she is identical to a character from another game, she will be no more out of place or lore-ruining than any other NPC in the game.

I feel like the whole Lightning in FFXIV debacle has been covered enough, but I will say that for me (and this seems to be the general sentiment from others who are upset by it) it just really cheapens the world. I guess some people take the integrity of the lore and world of an MMO more seriously than others. I know Yoshi-P said "Oh yeah I definitely care and we are going to make it fit please wait and see." but the fact is it's simply being shoehorned in as best they can manage. The fact that it's optional content also doesn't do much to soften the blow, since she will still be in the world and people will be running around in those costumes . An MMO is a shared experience.

But how many people really will be running around in the costume? Will the Lightning costume be the best gear they have? Somehow I doubt it. Maybe they'll put it on in towns and stuff but I don't see it being around that much outside of that.

I played WoW for a long time, and there were costumes in that game, too, which never got more use than "hey, look at me in this costume! /dance... cool, eh? *puts normal gear back on*"

The Beta forum....It's the same company.
Thanks! Also, how customisable is the UI? I never actually got to try it with the little time I jumped on during this past weekend and I'm hoping I can change the action bars to be a little bit closer and put some to the side (but not so far off from the side). If that is possible I'll definitely grab the CE on GMG and be happy man.

I did a Haukke run with an ARC that he liked to run ahead of me (I was MRD) and pull the mobs, it was a pain not just for me but for the CNJ as well. He also kept attacking whatever he liked instead of my target. After telling him to stop doing that, running ahead and attacking whaterver he liked from a group of slept mobs, both the CNJ and me decided to basically just let him die. After his second death he stopped doing that.

sounds fun. i used to yell at those people after a while. nowadays, i just sit back and let the story unfold. it's like comedy.

So would you guys say this is easier to get into than Final Fantasy XI? I really struggled getting to farm mobs with parties and make money. I started really late in the games life span.

I hate subligar so much, as a thief I was pretty much doomed to subligar so often and when I was endgame I was in heca way too much. The Heca type subligar is awesome but that darn slow% made it only useful for weaponskills and TA/SA. It was embarrassing, one gaffer that was helping me do subjob quests a looong time ago wouldn't help me until I put some real pants on. I was a dude, since I have been hesitant to pick dude characters again. Sure enough subligar was back in FFXIV.

If people are like that it's best to just shrug your shoulders and move on. I think the subligars are hilarious and they are more or less an established tradition now since they were in original FFXI. If other people are uncomfortable with their sexuality to the point that they can't stand to look at virtual metal underwear that is a problem with them, not all the rest of the players or the game.

People take games way too seriously. I'm running around gw2 with my fat hairy norn buck naked all the time, I like to think that it shames people who spend so much time trying to look badass.

Do you think this would be any good for left-handed use, if you ditched the directional keys, remapped all of that keypad for hotbar macros (bearing in mind combo-keys), and used the 4-way thumb stick for movement?

I use a Logitech G13:

I'll be perfectly honest when I say that I can't play MMOs without this thing anymore. I played Aion, original FFXIV, and Tera with this. The idea of going to back to the finger contortions I had to go through to play on WASD/ESDF and reaching everywhere to hit keys for skills is now unfathomable to me. I do use the thumbstick for movement and the keys on the G13 are for skills. My right hand uses an ordinary Logitech wireless mouse with wheel. I never liked the mice with 20+ tiny buttons on them, so I keep it simple with the mouse and instead rely on the many configurable, macro-able keys on the G13.

Or maybe they just want gear to actually look good.

Yeah, G13...I don't know why I kept saying G15. Derp.

I do prefer the shape of the Nostromus/Orbweaver, I find the curve feels better than the flat laying G13.

My own take on the whole, "Lightning," thing, is that its annoying, but doesn't ruin the game for me by any stretch of the imagination. I can handle allusions to other games, and I wouldn't have minded Lightning armor via some optional quest, but to transplant the entire character is a bit annoying. As a whole it shows a bit of disrespect for the game the developers are building.

To be fair though, they did do the same thing with Cloud, in Final Fantasy tactics. For some reason I actually enjoyed that, possibly because I actually like Cloud.

Simultaneously, I don't blame the developers themselves. The decision to throw in a Lightning cameo probably came down from on high, and the developers themselves would've had little choice in the matter. I'm not going to condemn the game, and all the good work the developers did, just because some exec in Square Enix's advertising division needs a swift kick in the hiney.

I remember that happening but we goofing off all the time about it I didn't know it was ever for real

Aquaducts panties party!

lol it was in humor, but I still had to wear the pants he provided me, I was getting money from him and help. I was happy to wear pants especially since he was doing all the work. Mjunter, I <3 thee.

I even saved the pictures, best day of my ffxi life. I was rich as a lowbie because of him. I later gave him the same amount of gil back when he came back but it was worth much less. I couldn't afford to give him more. Good old ffxi, so many great memories.

Another one is one of my shell members borrowed my account since I didn't play much, so I'd sometim.. always log back in to Ploid in subligar. The RSE quest subligar, nothing on it but healing MP+ (the way you gain MP and HP is to meditate /heal).

Is there a site where we can see various high level armors on all races and genders? Even if it's 1.0, I'd like to get an idea of what chars will look like since it seems like alts are completely unnecessary in this game.

The only reason to have alts in ARR is to have different genders/races :p

edit: forget it, trolled

Believe me, before Homam Shorts, I didn't have much of a option for endgame Thief pants. There was Dragon Subligar, AF green pants which were horrible, and AF2 blue pants which were also blah. I never did get Homan, or the Assault thief shorts. My thief went to the grave in subligar, Beast Master, Samurai, Warrior, etc were my new pants.

Ah crap you changed the text. I did not like subligar for real, enough to avoid wearing my battle gear when I wasn't in a fight (pants macro). It made my already silly looking character look even more silly. I leveled dancer to 95, and it looked awesome compared to subligar thief.

Subligar the joke armor skin of ffxi. It's like wearing a clown hat.. er no offense to PUPs. Clarification, it don't make my high level character look awesome.

The subligar that I didn't like on my 75 thief. The only thing missing is a bow or heart on the garter straps lol. :(

Imagine if male characters sported the thigh skin versions that Female characters have like the RDM pants.

I think the main reason they have it for female characters at all is sexy female characters in mmos.

The glory that is Hecatomb subligar, they look good on everyone

I'm not complaining about it since as much as I was into PSO's story/universe...the cameo quests didnt really have any real effect.

I'm sure it'll be whatever they use to explain why other things pop up from other universes. Void tripping and all that.

:D Yeah seems that way. I definitely prefer 1 char as opposed to having multiple alts (like WoW or something). I just wanted to know if there was a database full of pics so I can make an informed choice on what race/gender combo will work best for me at end game. I don't mind looking whacky whilst levelling so long as I get to look badass at end game.

I think the game's been designed so that the race/gender choice doesn't matter, but I could be wrong if there are stat growth differences, etc.

Speaking of XI memories, I still remember Ploid dragging me through Pashow. I think it was to check the place out for magicite? It was either that or snagging a blue mage spell.

When I first saw FFXIV's Dragoon I was floord, those dudes look aggressive and lethal. They nearly have a frightening aspect to them, you dare not look them in their eyes. It's like across between FFXI DRG+DRK. They will look awesome endgame, I'm sure of it.

Edit: man there's something about FFXI pictures that bring all the nostalgia back. I must not return. Come on twitch, where are the Geo and Rune Fencer players! I need my fix (taps arm).

Also I bet it was blu spells. I went to a lot of different places to help you guys with blu spells. The last being that awesome zone with the Imps that we had to run past (correction that was just for the staging point. Bomb cluster must have been the blu spell thing I was thinking of). I love that zone, thf's dream. Chests everywhere, putting our lock picking skills to use. So many wasted THF skills. Dancer probably had some but not as many as thief. <3 DNC.

Sorry, I was just talking about pure visual appeal. But yeah there are slight variances in how the stats are distributed for each race (but not gender). Nothing game breaking, it only matters if you really care about min/maxing.

I just wanted to see high level armors on characters so I can see which is the most purdy :P

To be honest, in my opinion all race/gender combos look very, very similar. I don't know of any picture database like that, but you could maybe try the beta lodestone and just browse different characters.

I might just go with the Taru people. It won't matter how good or silly something look when they wear it, they will look cute no matter what (toothpick relic great sword). Sacan from FFXI was the fiercest a Taru can be, but he was also so tiny and did cute things, like back flips after a weapon skill.

Ah okay. In my opinion the Miqo'te are far and away the most visually attractive race, both genders :P they look great in just about everything.

Are the beta test forums closed at the moment? It wants me to log in but says my ID or password is invalid, yet I can use exactly the same details to log in to my SquareEnix account?

I ran into that problem. Your SquareEnix account is not the same as the forum account, so you'll need to register for it.

New interview with Yoshida: We exceeded the one and a half million registrations for the beta.

About the Lodestone
Our idea is to facilitate the communication between the game and the Lodestone for those who do not always have the time, for example, to load directly to the blog the screenshots you take in-game. We will continue to update these functions, of course. We are still debating on the final form of this system, but in the future, we would arrive at the possibility, for example, to send a tweet without leaving the game. Other things should be possible as well..

Class system and future Jobs.
We created the system, but we do not necessarily need to follow it all the time. For example, let’s say that the Dark Knight is the second Gladiator job (attention, it is still not a confirmation), when you get its job stone at level 30, all acquired Gladiator skills will certainly be modified to better fit the image of the Dark Knight.

It was just to give an example to explain that we are not going to destroy how players consider different classes / jobs. It could be an interesting way to introduce future classes / jobs. We will consider your concerns on this issue, rest assured.

UI mods.
For the first 6 months after the release, we will focus on improving the interface based on players feedback. After these six months, we will provide the tools to allow players to create their own add-ons.

Honestly, we do not intend to adhere to strict guidelines for the creation of mods, we wish to leave the creative freedom to the players so that they can create and test new ideas. For example, it is perfectly possible to see the development of a specific UI for healers and one for the tanks that would better show who is getting hate, or improve the management of healing. Being too strict severely limits the imagination of designers and reduces the interest of mods.

Lack of special stats or skill boosts on artifact armour.
As I mentioned in a post on the official forum, the FFXIV ARR jobs artifact armor are scheduled to match FFXIV content, which means that what you had in V1 was not necessarily needed in ARR. Stats that have disappeared were deliberately removed because they were no longer needed for these jobs to pass the contents of ARR. This will make sense when you play the end game content. So for now, do not worry, your concerns should disappear at this point because everything has been redesigned for ARR, especially the end game content.

Sounds good, especially since I don't like how hate is displayed at the current state. Though I wish they'd release their tools right after launch and not 6 months later.

I just want the ability to scale some parts of the UI on the PS3 version. Shrinking the hotkeys would be wonderful.
