I definitely recommend healers using mouseover macros. Makes it a lot easier/quicker and allows you to keep your target on the enemy they are fighting so you can toss a nuke every now and again or see how how much threat you/other players have.

Like:

/ac "Cure" <mo>

-----

Is there a command line way to search for someone? Like /who (WoW) or /sea all (FFXI)? I don't mind using the little search application thing they have in the game currently, but it'd be faster to just do a /who or /sea all sometimes.

I love having Macros for my heals. I never ever have to click on someone in the party ever again for dungeons or parties for my heals. THANK you macros.

Well, I'm reasonably certain I just had my first experience with a cruddy healer. 9_9;;

I mean, hate to blame the healer, but when you're tanking a boss and its nearly a minute between heals, kinda hard to come to any conclusion except crumby healer.

The character seemed more interested in spamming low level attacks at the bosses, and didn't even take the time to raise fallen characters.

Man, i have about 3 hrs of open gaming left. Blow it on FF14 or put more work into skyrim? Decisions...
Look at it this way: you probably won't get to play Phase 4 until August 9th at the earliest and, assuming you own Skyrim, you can play that any other time you're free. After I beat the beta quest line, I stopped trying to level my character/try and get better gear. Instead, I wanted to try as many different things as I could. I got to check out the Chocobos, experience different classes, and try my hand at carpentry and mining. Felt like I made the most out of my beta experience, and I'm now super psyched to jump back in when it starts up again!

Assuming that it is being used correctly, it is better than having to run down the monsters beating on the back-line healers. If the conjurer knows how to knock the enemy on them back towards me, then I highly encourage them to do so.

Well, certainly, if its on the healer or someone else and not being actively tanked then go for it.

The most frustrating thing as a tank will always be those DPS characters who draw aggro, panic, and start running around as if moving ten feet will somehow make that monster stop attacking them. That just makes it harder for me to peel the monster back off them. If you draw aggro, stand still.

That doesn't frustrate me so much since I'm fine with letting them die if they are attacking something they shouldn't. Its usually a lesson well learned =D

I just spent about an hour emoting with some random miqo'te called Anna Bananachan in the Limsa Aetheryte plaza. I was so bored, but I didn't want to log off so I kept going and going and spamming more emotes to random passer byers.

But finally I logged off, phase 3 is over for me, reached lv35 as MRD and completed my Cavalry set. I enjoyed the game a lot and can't wait to see how will endgame be like.

that level 30 duty with the marlboro is a real newbie killer. i had a party where nobody paid attention to anything. they didn't read the description, ignored system messages and kept attacking the wrong bubbles to kill themselves. i think the tank was the worst player i've seen so far. he was so slow to react to anything. sometimes you would see him standing in the river with no mobs around him and casting flash. wish i could've captured that train wreck.

Anyway, if you want to randomly party in your own server you can flag up for party, or search for people LFP, or /shout in Ul'dah. Oh, I guess Yoshida says the same things.

Unfortunately, both shouting for parties and search have pretty bad and limited functionality while Duty Finder puts you in a party for any duty with a single button push. They are purposely not bothering trying to make those options viable because they want you to use Duty Finder. As far as I can tell you can't even search/seek by duty. Furthermore, people who use duty finder will not be paying attention to shouts in one zone nor will they using search or search messages. Once most people don't use it, no one will. There isn't much of a choice in this at all. If anything something like search is in the game to cull fears about Duty Finder without actually solving them.

I only soloed up to 6 with mine, but it seemed pretty simple. Have a couple of basic nukes and an ability to flip INT and MND so you can basically be in damage dealer mode.

Tempting. I usually play as a healer in MMOs, but I was leaning towards GLD to start off. However, CNJ is looking enticing. I wish the caster gear looked as cool as the heavier gear (imo).

How's soloing as a conj?
A lot easier to solo with than other classes. Sure, having low damage output means fights last a little longer and involve enduring a lot of attacks, but I feel much more in control because I'm able to keep my character alive and I rarely fail. I really didn't experience any difficulty whatsoever until the last very last quest.

With Yoshida himself basically saying he wouldn't recommend the use of DF in the higher level dungeons, I hope most people come to the realization that shouting and creating that network of known decent players will become even more important.

Also I liked the idea someone on the Beta forums had, basically create a couple LFG Server Linkshells and fill them up and just advertise groups within those linkshells. When your not looking for a group you can easily mute those linkshells so concerns of chat spam all the time shouldn't be a problem.

Well, I'm done. I beat Brayflox longstep, and got some nice armor, though I think I still like this set I picked up around lvl 20 the best.

I've got to admit, I'm going to miss this character. Going to be really hard to retire him. *sniff.*

How's soloing as a conj?

It's the easiest out of all the classes I've tried. Stone a mob and if things get dicey, push them back and sleep them, heal to your heart's content, then continue. It's also the only class that I've been able to complete my hunting log solo.

I just don't quite understand why shouting for dungeons is a bad thing. It's an MMO, go be social.

Well, ideally that'd be the best way to do it, since its less random and therefore easier for you to make connections.

In reality however, you end up standing around, f-o-r-e-v-e-r, when you do it that way.

I think FFXIV more or less has it right here. Use the Free Company events to make connections, and streamline the instanced dungeuns, so people can quickly have fun.

Only played a Lancer and THM to around 12~ each. Not bad so far, just wish I could decide which I like better so I can stick to one.

Heh, I was planning to make a LFG way back in 1.0. I sort of gave up. I think I'll try again.

Because no one wants to stand around waiting for hours to get a group together for a dungeon.

FFXI was notorious for this.

And back in the glory days that wasn't even "a dungeon", that was just to go out into the game and play the damn thing. I had the worst luck playing a DRK, ended up quitting the game because of it a few months after launch.

I mean, if you actually want to spend weeks shouting in town to get a group to do something, cool. But don't be surprised if you're in the minority. I quit FF11 after spending my evenings for a week and a half shouting in Jeuno for help with the Lich fight, and never found enough people. Before that, I shouted for days for other things like genkai 2. That was not fun, and it is not something I ever want to do again. It has nothing to do with being social and everything to do with wasted time. While you're shouting in town, you're not doing anything else. You can't leave the zone and do other things.

*nods*

Phase 2 of the beta was like that. Though, to be fair, by the end of that phase I at least had a few people on my friends list I could call upon.

That is the thing really. I see the Duty finder as a sort of a stop-gap solution, getting you by until you've built up a support network you can go to, for more reliably good players.

Also, you don't have to go completely random with it. If its just you and one other well known friend in your party, you can use the DF to at least fill in the gaps. That way you at least have one or two known good players in your team, the balance out the unknown quantity that is the random players.

the character making benchmark sounds great. I have already spent some time in this phase to make my character for phase 4, but the fact you actually see ur character in actions sounds great.

I met some pretty great folks through the duty finder by the end of things. There were some bad players, of course.. but it happens in every game.

One of the best parties I had, though.. was when we had partied up to fight the lv 32 crab FATE in La Noscea..

A few of us from that group thought "hey.. there are 4 of us here.. we're the right classes.. why don't we do a dungeon?" and we used duty finder to take us to Haukke Manor and it was a good run.

Having the option of using the duty finder to fill in missing slots in a party you've started yourself is one of my favorite aspects of dungeon finders in general. I always prefer to go with a guild group, but sometimes you just don't have enough people on or enough interested.

Phase 3 ends within the hour. I'll miss my character as I've grown attached to it.

I wouldn't worry too much. Our characters are merely hibernating, getting ready to reemerge in their new forms a month from now!

I like having the opportunity to improve my character's appearance with the Character Creator demo. I have a lot of things I didn't like about how my Beta characters looked that I am happy to be able to change.

you mind posting your macro?

is it
/action "Cure" <fX>
with X as number 1-4?

also, 1 thing i've noticed about duty finder is that it forces the party set up to be 1 tank 1 healer 2 dps
so in this beta, 1 gld or mrd, 1 cnj and 2 dps

in reality, thm can be a healer too in a pt (what thm doesn't have cnj skills?), but since the duty finder forces him to be dps he'll have a much harder time getting pt like all other dps classes in duty finder

Well just beat brayflox and the mansion a few times, that's it for me, sad that I haven't got a single set of decent looking armor in 35 levels :<

For my archer I had full toad skin armor and it looked awesome. Dyed every piece nophica green so it totally looked like I was wearing frog skin.

Oh, and fuck the damn Foestriker's Tabard. That thing is a PLAGUE. It seemed like 50% of all players were wearing the damn thing. SO annoying. I loved it when I first got it... but then I started seeing it everywhere and I just wanted to get rid of it so bad.

then you would copy and past that same macro into a new one but change the number to 3, and then do it again and put in 4. That will cover for your 3 main party members. Now if you want one for yourself. It will look like this

/ac "Cure" <me>

The same can be done for Cure II as well

/ac "Cure II" <2>

I might try that out in P4.

Currently I'm basically using

/ac Cure <mo>
/echo ---

and

/ac "Cure II" <mo>

The former one is mainly to fill one of my chatlogs with blank spaces, so I could easily see when my free Cure procs without looking at the icons.

Also, as for DPS Spells, I modified every one of them into

/ac Aero <tt>

With that, I never have to switch away from the tank as my target, making his HP bar and active buffs visible all the time (I have the target's bar close to the center of my screen). Things like Convalescence are easier to spot for me that way.

Keep in mind I'm playing on the PS3 so it makes it easier for me but the same rules can apply on the PC side of it.
