bye bye my phase 3 character...I will miss you..

I didn't play much in this last phase but I managed to do a couple dungeon runs as a tank (MRD) and I'll say that tanking is fun. I need to learn how to put marks on stuff though. I had nice groups that targeted my target and used sleep if needed, so keeping aggro was fine especially after a flash at the start, but using marks would have made it even easier I'm thinking.

Now, with phase 3 done, I need to backup my character's appearance before removing the client, but I don't remember which directory it was stored into.
I remember that it's been said previously, but I'm not sure what to search for. Anyone that could help?

I mean, if you actually want to spend weeks shouting in town to get a group to do something, cool. But don't be surprised if you're in the minority. I quit FF11 after spending my evenings for a week and a half shouting in Jeuno for help with the Lich fight, and never found enough people. Before that, I shouted for days for other things like genkai 2. That was not fun, and it is not something I ever want to do again. It has nothing to do with being social and everything to do with wasted time. While you're shouting in town, you're not doing anything else. You can't leave the zone and do other things.

My average time of setting up exp party was around 3 hours just to get a refresher + healer +tank +another DD

And thats how FFXI felt like a second job to me, so yeah ... i'm happy to see shouting dead.

Hey guys, just want to know, does all your progress get wiped when phase 4 begins?

Also, if you are playing on the pc right now, is it possible to download the ps3 client and give it a go?

And can somebody give me a clue as to what macros are how thry are supposed to work?

Sorry for the noob questions. This is my first mmorpg tbh

Why would you start with aero?

Use stone first. Then aero. Then stonestonestonestonestone.

Not sure if it's a joke but I personally use Aero first because it's instant cast in case I want to pull something before others take it or whatnot. :P

Though it seems no one really cares about KSing and such since most people kill stuff for quests not for individual exp. Still try to avoid doing it though.

Whelp that was heaps of fun. Much more fun than the original launch that is for sure. Think I've found my MMO to play alongside Guild Wars 2, going to be rolling a CONJ as I really liked the playstyle and also love healing.

I don't think there's such a thing as KS'ing in this game. I was grinding out mobs in one cave with another guy (not in a party) and we were pretty much killing each other's pulls the entire time. Got the same experience / hunting log entries / etc. as if I were doing it solo.

She must not be forgotten!

from phase 3 to phase 4 everything gets wiped. At phase 4 everything will carry on retail

you needed a special code on phase 3. Anyways now theres no beta anymore till phase 4. Everyone will be able to play at phase 4

Only thing I noticed a few times was that it appeared I didn't get the quest progression (i.e kill 5 lady buys) at times if someone who was like a few levels higher ran by and killed it while I kept fighting.

Would probably be good to find out for sure though, I'll look into it before launch.

I absolutely loved Phase 3, played a Conjurer and enjoyed it quite a bit. Played all the way to Bowl of Embers Trial and fought Ifrit, which was cool. Definitely going to play that class.

How many characters can you make in the final release and in how many servers?

Also what's the difference in the normal ARR and the ARR DCE versions? Dunno if it's worth the €15 price difference.

Doesn't matter who claims the mob. If you do at least a certain amount of damage to the target, you will get credit for the kill for your quests/hunting log/whatever. I believe you (or a nearby party member?) need to do at least 25% of its total HP.

You can have 8 if you go with the Standard membership subscription. They can be on any server.

In-game items: Helm of Light, Behemoth Barding for Chocobo, Behemoth Minion, and a Coeurl Mount. Also Cait Sith Minion, Mog Cap, and early access if you pre-order.
You can check them out here.

Thanks for the info!

How's soloing as a conj?

It's not hard, but pretty boring at the same time. You have 2 offensive spells, but one of them is a DoT so that means you spend most of your time spamming 11111111111 (Stone 1). On the plus side, under most circumstances, you can last a long time in battles (even if it IS boring).

I'm just thrilled I don't have to relevel it since I already have a 50 CNJ on my main character. >.>

-------

One thing that bugs me about the duty finder is you HAVE to have a certain setup for it to work. I have two other friends I was playing with in the beta - a Gladiator and a Marauder. And I was a Conjurer. It wouldn't let us queue up in the duty finder because we had two tanks, so we ended up having to shout for an additional DD which took longer than expected. And it doesn't help that people kept messaging us with "Just use the duty finder!" I realize a GLD/MRD in one party isn't ideal, but we did fine in every single dungeon and battle we came across. Hell, we beat Ifrit with GLD, MRD, MRD, CNJ (3 "tanks") in one go, lol.

I just wish the Duty Finder wasn't so limited. *shrug*

I didn't have any time to play this weekend due to Brave New World and wanting to play my newly bought games from the Steam Sale. Looking forward to August and Phase 4. This time I'll make GLD, there's nothing like tanking with a shield despite having some fun with MRD in the first couple of dungeons.

Oh, and please kill the chocobo-music with fire for next phase.

I still think they should have hired Sakimoto for the soundtrack, it would have fitted the tone of the game perfectly. Right now the music is overall bland, with a few outstanding BGMs.

It's really minor, but using Stone > Aero essentially gives you two cast before the mob has responded to your first attack due to the cast time of Stone and the GCD running at the sametime. While using Aero > Stone likely only gives you one cast before the mob is on top of you due to Aero being instant.

On top of that, Stone slows the mob right off the bat, it won't be able to dart for you instantly (moot point after you acquire Fluid Aura though).

Can you get the items if you already bought the original game? Like register a new key over your old one?
The link you've posted only mentions a "Digital Upgrade Service". I hope this doesn't mean, if I buy the CE of ARR but already have a registered key of the normal original version I have to buy the CE items again via the upgrade service to use them.

And I didn't know that: "Customers who own a copy of FFXIV version 1.0 and wish to use their account on the PlayStation 3 version will need to purchase a copy of the PlayStation 3 version. It will then be possible to use your characters on either platform" This is great :)

Do we know yet how much a digital upgrade to the CE will cost? It's very tempting to get it for those 4 bonus items which are pretty cool. But it really depends on the price. I doubt it'll be cheap, though. :/ If it's something like $5-$10, I'll be tempted. If it's over that, I'll probably pass.

Also, I hope they redo their SE Management website. It's needlessly confusing and complex just navigating it and setting stuff up.

I presume you'll get a separate code for the CE items to add to your account. And if you brought the original CE you will automatically get the ARR CE items.

I hope so, too. I find the digital update rather expensive for just those items.
You DON'T get a separate code for the CE items, they're included in the game code, and indeed can only be applied when registering a new account, not over your old one. The code for the preorder items is separate though, so that one can be used with an old account.

This has been already addressed in the official forums, and their solution for people wich old normal accounts wanting the CE items is either you get the digital upgrade or the PS3 CE, because that one you can add to an old account, being considered as adding a different platform and all, and you'll get the items both on PC and PS3.

So do what you must, but the cards are on the table already.

I only got play 1st weekend, surgery/rehab killed my gameplay for the next 3 weeks

Oh wells, I enjoyed my Phase 3 time, hopefully I get into Phase 4 (this one your character stuff carries over right?)

I also Pre-Ordered the CE from amazon and they sent me a code for 1 week head start pre-order bonus, how the hell does that work for the PS3?

Hopefully I get a GAF LS invite, if not, I'll just venture the lands and join a group, will be chasing that Platinum hard!

Thanks. Not an ideal solution but I was considering the PS3 version anyway to get both platforms so it's not that bad.

Phase 4 of beta is supposed to be open beta with progress carried over to release. Thus, it's likely that the phase 4 beta client will be the release client (minus patches, obviously) so you'll have the actual game client on your PS3 before the game disc actually arrives and you'll be able to play.

BTW, I've been meaning to ask.

What are the best places to find lore on the setting, characters, races, and cultures of Eorzea?

Probably more important, where would I get a more detailed breakdown of the events that happened pre-ARR? Before the next phase rolls out, I'd like to get myself thoroughly familiar with the world, so I can get my next characters background, mindset, and backstory, all internally consistent with the game world.

Yes I know, it probably seems a bit silly to go into that much effort to a lot of people. This sort of thing is important to me though. If I'm going to spend that many hours living in this world, in my characters shoes, I'd like to do it right.

I'm very happy I DIDN'T play much of this beta, just a little bit during Phase 2 I believe. Barely anything in Phase 3 except for porting in my old character and running around a little.

I went through all my 1.0 screenshots last night and saw how much more fun I had and more exploring I did in the 1.0 Beta than after 1.0 release... I was pretty burned out of the game by release, since nothing new came with it.

Some questions:

There will be no wipe after Phase 4?

If so, if we start in Phase 4 and port in our Legacy characters, can we still change our look at some point? Or do we need to wait for Release ?

Since this is my first MMORPG, I think I run a fairly low risk for burning out by release date. I'm already having a little withdrawal, so by the time August rolls around, I'm going to be itching to get back in methinks.

I think this thread on BG is very interesting to browse for lore-related questions and discussion. I'd also try the official Lore Forum which hosts similarly interesting discussions.
