Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - Beta Phase 3 Impression: Phase 4 August

I doubt it will affect the phase 4 schedule at all at least. They must have the date for that pretty much locked down as it's due to end only 1-3 days before early access.

The schedule said the fourth test would last longer and they didn't reveal the end date when they originally posted the schedule like they have done in every test so far so everyone assumed this test would be longer. It also means we have at least one more test of phase 3.

Ah ok, my bad ^^'

Anyway I'm still conflicted if I should play or not. I leveled up to about lvl 5 and part of me really wishes to continue, however another part of me doesn't cause so far with every MMO that I participated in the beta for, I completely knew what to do and the games didn't felt new anymore.

Just spent my longest session on the game. I enjoyed it a lot! The quests are great, love when you're in the open world and come across those free for all quests on there too.

Also saw Emitan on there! <3

i got to level 10 then stopped because i decided i am buying the retail. had fun for sure. question though,

is there a LFG or similar tool? or are instances done the old fashioned way? (meet up etc)

is there any pvp at all?

and i really want to play a black mage (caster dps with elemental magic fire blizzard etc) how do i do this?

ty in advance!

thaumaturge is BLM, there will be arena pvp in the future, there is a LFG tool called the duty finder.

Did some fighting alongside my chocobo, it's pretty awesome.

Is there any site where I can see high level armors for each class? My team needs a healer, but I really don't like the preview of the conjurer armor in character creation...it's so boring. I really like the bard one :(

I think I triggered a bug.

Did two guildhest via the duty finder, and each time when I came back to Thanalan the exp gained in the guildhest dissapeared :/

nvm: after restarting the game the displayed exp was correct :/

iirc Arcanist is dot based mage with carbuncle, summoner is arcanist + pet based dps/buffs? (not sure on buffs, but I can imagine ifrit could have an attack up buff). Scholar is Arcanist + pet based heals/buffs (Supportive)

Got to play for the first time yesterday, bought, so cheap at GMG.

I want to play more but.. bwaa. :( Need to check it out the on the PS3 also though. Excited about crossplay and PS4 vers. Wonder if they'll somehow make it legible on Vita with remote play.

Is that color black? Because I'm going full black once I can dye my gear.

*I think* removing the dye will give you black, I'm not sure though, I just see a black icon for that and removing the dye on my iron armor seems to have given it a dark/black tone. edit: i guess not, I think it just returns to a "default" color :(

Did 2 dungeons today, it was ok, it's a bit too hectic for my taste, I did enjoy the boss fights though, maybe it'll be better with a support class at higher levels, we went as 3 melees and a healer.

Just got done with a long session with the game. I played only on the Xbox 360 controller and I am impressed how the control scheme works in combat. I see myself using a controller over the keyboard or a combination of the sort.

I've gotten over my map woes now that I've figured it out. I still think it needs a bit of work. Call me all you want, but I prefer basic arrows on the map pointing me where to go, even if I have to go into a different area altogether.

Can anyone give me a rundown on how to do the "To Guard a Guardian" quest?

I feel like an idiot but I cannot for the life of me finish this quest.

It's so painful levelling as a Conjurer.

Which one was that? I don't have all the quest names memorized. :(

yea map definitely needs work. I had hard time in the beginning and my friend is having hard time as well.

You have to go to the Guardian Tree and fight loads of Ixals (level 15), there's also a level 20 Ixal boss person lol
Oh yeah. Do you get NPC help with that one? You could just let the NPCs fight them and heal and keep aero on stuff. It'll take a awhile but I imagine that's what they expect.

Also, if you can at least get them one by one, you could Stone + Aero kite.

You do get NPC help but they die really quickly, and I seem to run out of mana pretty quick too.

Once the leader NPC dies I always get "Duty failed", this happens when the second wave of Ixals run in and I can't take them out in time.

Maybe I'll try levelling a bit (currently level 14). It said that if I was above level 17 that I would be capped, so I assume level 17 is the limit for that quest.

With the Ixal boss, attack/kite only when you're not poisoned or below 50% health, if you don't have at least 5-8 antidotes on stock do what I did and turtle by just casting Cure. I did it when I was level 14 so you should be fine, it's a waiting game.

Being Conjurer means you can croak running in the wild lol. When you travel make sure to set closest aetheryte as home point every time.

Game really does look fantastic with proper AA. Been playing with SGSAA on this weekend, and I'm constantly awestruck by just how good it looks, which didn't happen at all the other weekends. Without AA, the jaggy foliage reallly sticks out and steals all the attention.

Wow, did a bunch of things!

- The third dungeon was pretty interesting. Still too linear, but it did try some interesting things. Also, tanking with a lala is pretty hilarious. :P
- Guilhelds are pretty fun with the duty finder. I feel like SE has some good things in his hands right now, hopefully they'll enhance them further.
- MRD is a pretty fun class, much better than the CNJ. It highly rewards you for paying attention to combo in solo mission, the Gargoyle was a joke.

Right now I'm leveling Gladiator for some abilities, I don't have much hate control problem, but it's always good to have them.

One step closer to phase 4. Fine by me.

Yeah, same here.

Even as a Conjurer, don't worry about healing them. Just spread Aero and Stone around and drop as many of the adds as possible. Maybe toss a Cure or two to the main guy tanking the first phase boss, but I succeeded once I stopped playing a healer and more the attacker.

When the NPCs defeat the first wave of guys and move on to their respective corners, most of them will get killed. I recommend moving to one of those sides, as the second you Cure the guy tanking the boss they'll all aggro you, if that makes sense. Just focus on hitting them with Aero/Stone and you'll be fine. It's more a DPS race than anything.

Kill all the lvl 15 guys first and then worry about the lvl 20, that worked for me.

Also have antidotes equipped.

This is likely the design I'll be using for my secondary character. I'm a little annoyed I couldn't get the cheekbones to be more pronounced like my male Roe (my main character, legacy).

Trying LNC/DRG at higher levels is not that bad as it look at lower levels, still underwhelming but it's ok.

Still I think the job needs some overhaul.

its good to hear. I am level 17 and at dungeons all I do is mash 5 and occasionally 2 for slowdown. Do you get more variety later on?

I feel like every job in this game needs like 3-5 more combos (using existing actions, naturally) with unique, meaningful effects. Including mages, who have only a few pseudo-combos in the form of free spells, but could use something more.

EDIT: Combos using cross-class skills could be interesting.

Yeah, you finally get the combo line from Impulse Drive and Heavy Trust.

Heavy trust is nice because using from the side give an attack boost and Impulse Drive is more potency from behind so adding them to your rotation is a good idea. Then life surge and Blood for Blood adds quite power to the class. And obviously Invigorate

Nothing mindblowing, but it's not as straightforward.

I feel it would be better if all attack skills were part of a combo. No reason why Doom Spike and others dosn't have a combo tree.

Most important LNC trait is enhanced sweep.
Fast cast interrupting is the best.
Then we have the 'true -> vorpal -> full' combo that dishes about 300-400 dmg (lvl30), you can get almost 3 combos til the next sweep and generally it is right on time for the next large cast to interrupt. Beastly.
No wonder the row damage attack and the radius attack are later in his set.

I could use a "jump back to range limit" skill though.

I've got a little problem, I gave away my beta code to another gaffer since I was short on time and had only little interest frankly in ffxiv. I've since had a REVELATION, and I just want to consume everything this game is, any one hanging onto an extra key (sorry if I'm not supposed to ask :/ )

Anyway I'm totally digging the feel of this world, is there a decent podcast that talks about xiv similar to "the instance" for wow?

You're in luck. Check your PM!

Heavy Thrust isn't linked to Impulse anymore. Also, please don't link aoe to non aoe, doom spike is fine unlinked.

I'm still a level 7 black Mage, but I'm enjoying this a lot so far.

Is there still a sub class system where you can mix two jobs? Similar to FFXI?

Also, is there any kind of talent system? Something to make my black Mage unique from other black mages?

Having a blast with the beta so far.

As of yesterday I've completed the following:

  1. Completed main story
  2. dye quest
  3. Personal Chocobo
  4. 2 post story dungeons (halatali and the other one in east shroud)

In terms of "content" what is there left to do besides level and clear the higher level dungeons? Are there any other event-like or feature unlocking quests to do? I just want to try all the features and events available in the beta.
