You probably won't be able to use it, same as any other item you might have bought from that GC on 1.0, since those items are GC exclusive.

It's like I have many of them (from Limsa's) on my legacy character, but I wasn't able to equip them until I joined the GC during the storyline.

Yeah, you're probably right. I'll probably just rejoin the Twin Adders, anyways. I liked how the Gridanian barding looked. :P

What's your guy's opinion on the Duty Finder feature. Do you think it will ruin the community of the game or do you welcome it with open arms?

I liked it, but I did have some fears earlier about how it could impact the community. Some people want them to add an option to search for people on your server instead of them all. Or for the Duty Finder to prioritize people on your server first.

Cool, but should have a fee for teleportation, it sterilizes the idea of navigating through the world, the quest. Actually, it should only be teleportable after you've done the quest the first time.
Anyhow, it worked well in my experience, and I didn't mind the wait as a DPS, I'd just keep doing my hunting log during it.

I'm fine with it and will use it as an alternative when there's no interest to run something between the free company or linkshells.

I'm also totally cool with grouping up with people from other servers and never playing with them again. I've been doing it the past 9 months on Guild Wars 2 with no outstanding issues, including both low- and high-end PvE content. The drama between guilds is still alive and well. People on servers will still find ways to adore and despise each other.

Very convenient, but will need some changes before launch. My one big issue, as was discussed in game after it was implemented, was that it could easily have a negative impact on the overall community because it allows for cross-server parties. You can meet new people, but can't communicate with them outside of the instance and may never see them again.

I'd like them to limit access to your server specifically to at least help grow some community and would hope that some would still consider the use of lfp/lfg instead of instantly jumping into df to get a group.

It was pretty good though, for finding a 4th to run a dungeon if you lacked a tank or healer, which can either turn out well or poorly for the group if either are incredibad at their jobs.

Three questions:

1. Is there a physical version for the PC Collectors edition? I can only find digital downloads.

2. Is there a way to play through the original Final Fantasy XIV story? Or is it not that much different?

3. What is this graphics mod that I hear about?

1. According to this page, yes I think so. EDIT: Oh, might be sold out already? Hmm.

2. No, it's gone for good now. It's a very different story that leads up to how ARR starts off. You can watch some cutscenes on youtube, though.

3. Not sure.

More specifically FFXIV:ARR is essentially a sequel to FFXIV, there was a flash CGI ending movie for FFXIV/trailer for ARR that takes place 5 years before the current iteration. The game touches on this frequently, but the CE will come with a disc with the movie scenes or whatever from FFXIV and as said there is youtube.

Welcome it with big open arms.

Reduce LFP time, and should also reduce job discrimination, 2 aspect I purely hated in ffxi. Being able to switch class while it search is also a big plus, I can already see myself craft/recolt during that time.

As to what it might do to the community, hard to say, I suppose it will mostly depend of the end game content.

I love it, great party tool. I don't particularly care about not being able to choose just from people of my own world, although if there happen to be people from same world searching for the same instance, it would be cool if the system prioritized grouping people from the same world.

Still as it is right now, I could be doing leves, or crafting and I feel like going for a dungeon run I can just pop the DF and go for one straight away, just to continue with what I was doing right after finishing.

I would also like to have an option for cross-world friendlist, and maybe be able to communicate to party together again that way.

Praise jeebus I don't have to wait a whole week to play again. And then five days to play? Great! I wish armor sets where more defined. I didn't really like putting random bits and pieces on my lancer and then it looked gaudy as hell because different piece was another different color. I created and Gladiator and was walking around with bright green chain armor and a red chain helmet(?).

I feel you. And I think it's made on purpose by the developers to have un-matching colours on the vendors.

Had there been any word whether or not there will eventually be side activities available, that aren't strictly related to battles or crafting?

I mean, just to throw out an example off the top of my head. Say, chocobo race mini-games or something? I mean, that one might be fairly difficult to implement, since mounts would need stats, and since you'd need to create someplace to race.

Still, you get the picture. Has there been any word about some sort of, casino, or other minigame events within XIV, at some point? I'm just remembering the Gold Saucer from FF7, and thinking about how something like that might be a fun addition, if done right.

There will be gardening in your own house's garden, same as Chocobo raising, and there will be a Gold Saucer for mini games and stuff. Chocobo races will probably come in of course.

And a card game only if Yoshida manages to make (not just himself but the development team) something fun and original, since he is stubborn about adding Triple Triad or Tetra Master.

Sweet, I hope these are all well implemented. Both battle and crafting are fun, but the occasional in-world diversion will be nice. Also, kinda curious what sort of landscape they set aside for Chocobo races, and what exactly the mechanic will be.

Yessssss to the bolded. A cross-world friendlist and the ability to specifically party with those people again in future dungeons would be fantastic. I don't know how it would be to incorporated into the game, but it would make me very happy.

So it's crucial to have underwear armor?

Yes!

I'm half-joking. Subligars were in FFXI, and it's funny to see them back in this game as well.

In v1.0 there was real "underwear armour", let's try not to go back there ever again.

Maybe if not by a /tell chat, through moogle mails, although it'd be annoying having to go to the Moogle everytime to read it or to have a conversation going.

But at least say if there was a cross-world friendlist make them to be able to join a party together and then hit the DF to look for more members or join the instance.

So, either the Moogles need to come to you when you have a message, or, there needs to be some sort of ingame prompt informing you that you have unread Moogle mail?

The latter I suppose, could get annoying fast. Imagine a little moogle following you around yelling. "Hey, LISTEN! Kupo!"

There is an UI icon showing you unread mail, it appears next to the signal strength, targeting type and clock.

I think that's from phase 1 or 2, on phase 3 the mail icon doesn't show unless you have unread mail. I had one when I created a new character, it was a message in japanese and included my Onion's Helm from V1.0 CE. The letter icon had a 1 on top, so probably if you have several unread mail it'll show the appropriate number.

I remember in Aion if you got new mail something would come fliying, can't remember what and hand it to you. I guess they could implement a Moogle to do the same, and maybe wait and take your reply. But well, I think it'd be easier just a chat prompt/quick message, without all the hassle for Moogle animations and stuff lol

I'd forgotten about that!

It's really easy to overlook that. I fear a lot of people won't notice that, sadly. Granted, I'm not sure how much further you could go before things become annoying.

I would like to see them do what Blizzard has started to do with WoW and just get rid of server limitations entirely in favor of "virtual realms".

What's your guy's opinion on the Duty Finder feature. Do you think it will ruin the community of the game or do you welcome it with open arms?

I think it's an useful feature, but it really needs a lot of tweaks.

The official forum has a lot of great ideas, hopefully the developers will list listen to them.

I'm sure they will. I do agree that it should server side first then others if it can't find anyone else to Join you on your own world server.

I will say this, that player housing stuff i read sounds amazing.

I have a question:

I bought the original game back when it first released and made an account. Still have access to it but I don't have the cdkey anymore as I was moving and threw the CDs out.

For ARR, do I have to reregister with the CDkey or can I just log in with my old account?

You don't need the key anymore if it's registered with the account.

Log in with your old account. And congrats you have beta access for having a 1.0 account.

Okay awesome. I played it for the free month when I first got it and then never resubbed.

Once it comes out, I'll just resub.

Maybe you never heard, but the game remained free until 2012 when they started charging the monthly sub. Although the game was broken right after launch so it wqasn't really worth playing anymore than you did, but in 2011 there were many interesting things done to it, and it was, well, playable and still free.

Thanks for the quick responses guys! So if I got the old FFXIV collectors edition, I would still be eligible for the new CE digital bonuses according to the website. Would that be worth it? I can find it for just a little bit more than the digital CE. Would the security key still work?

If you are going to buy the old CE, why not pay a bit more and get instead the new one? The artbook is more than worth the entry price, unless you don't care about that and just want the digital items.

Sweet! 5 more days to play!

Does anyone know if there are any other ways to get a beta key at this time? I'm in the beta, but a friend of mine is still looking. At this point I'm sure he will just have to wait for open beta, but I just didn't know if any sites were still doing giveaways like Alienware did.

Anyone know the link on the beta test forum that shows what's being added or fixed. Its a huge list that lays everyone category out and says whats in beta 3, and what will be added in beta phase 4 ect.
