The bosses are easier too. Haukke's last boss has the lamps for instance.

That being said, I don't think 3 tanks Haukke would be mechanically harder than Brayflox, it would probably take longer though.

DD RIP. Could try three MRD and just overpower mobs down, I'm starting to get gw2 vibes with people stacking around a corner forcing mobs to bunch up together.

Started playing this and have made it to level 13 archer in a few hours. Would like to join the carpentry guild but it says i have to complete the level 10 quest of my current class

Which requirements am i missing seeing as i'm level 13?

Does it mean all level 10 quests must first be completed?

3 tank Brayflox is now a thing. 2 GLD, 1 MRD (me), and 1 CNJ cleared it and man, tanks can DPS a lot better than we expected. It actually didn't take as long as we had feared. It was something like a 45 minutes clear time.

I guess this means I'm done with Phase 3. I can't wait for Phase 4 and launch!

awwww yiss

Glad I got to do Brayflox before the end of phase 3. I feel satisfied. :D

Bring on phase 4.

I've heard a lot of people complain about the latency problems, however I have yet to encounter any lag at all during this phase. Maybe I've just been lucky and my connection has always managed to stay lag free, but whatever the case, the problem is still there for some and it must be something hard to either detect or fix, since it doesn't happen to most people, basically is no where near as bad as what happened with 1.0, but I hoped they fix the problem by launch.

this shit happens to me all the time. and i know it's not my fault but theirs. online games from 15 years ago had less lag than that. it's their code and it's garbage. somebody tell yoshida that you can't bring a pvp system into a game like this.

This was a problem in 1.0, and they said they had to change their engine in order to fix it or something, and it's still a problem.

Again, this makes me wish they moved away from stuff like AoE circles to dodge and instead went with dodging AoEs mainly coming from actions. Would have been easier to do JP/US servers too.

I feel like the ability I unlocked at Lv21 Goldsmith (Great Strides, doubles next 'Touch' efficiency) might be a tad overpowered. Levels 18, 19 and 20 I was having to rely on gathering HQ base items to reliably HQ stuff (eg. HQ copper and zinc ore to make HQ brass ingots, then the HQ brass used in the final item). However with Great Strides I'm HQing everything left, right and centre with NQ ingredients.

ahha I've gotten killed twice by that, i thought I didn't move far enough or something because I like to stand just outside the circle.

I kind of hate the circle aoe thing and running in and out, should just give me a block button :(

The server lag would kill you anyways because you would be holding Block but the server doesn't agree.

I've found that if you move farther than the circle indicates you almost never get hit.

Well, something I'd like to see the developers change at some point, for crafting anyway.

I'd like to be able to change jobs, right within the crafting log, so long as I've created the appropriate Gear Bookmark already. This might not seem like a big deal, but since crafting really is just one job, and all lean heavily on each other, anything that'd stream-line the crafting process would be appreciated.

I mean, there are a number of items in this game, that cannot be made without first synthesizing another item from a different craft job. Backing all the way out of the craftlog, changing class, then going back in, can get annoying really fast.

Otherwise I'm enjoying it. Only other complaint is that I'm occasionally hitting roadblocks, that can only be cleared through ample use of Gil, or by leveling a Gathering job until you can farm a specific item in large numbers. I know that is a big part of the gameplay of the crafting/gathering jobs, but considering my crafting classes are fairly low level, these roadblocks seem to be taking a disproportionate amount of time to clear.

Being able to cover more ground just means you've started moving earlier though.
It's not a radius problem, as I'm also able to go back into the circles just before they disappear and not get hit.

I've been wondering what it is about the MMO experience that interests or excites me
it's magical
, what is it about an MMO that draws your interest?

In comparison to single player rpgs or similar action games (as many MMOs today seem to be more action oriented), I think the feeling of being part of a living fantasy world is what does it for me. Teaming up with other players that aren't scripted AI and have good and bad sides (I'm sure we've all experienced both), just makes it exciting for me.

What do you guys think?

I can only speak for the PS3 but I can get the same effect just by assigning the relevant gear set to the hotbar. Then just shift to the relevant job while in the crafting log.

You'd need to take a few minutes setting it up and on the PS3, the window covers most of the hotbar so you'd have to remember all the button combos but it's easier than closing and re-opening windows.

But funny enough their garbage code has given me 0 problems in this aspect. The problem has to be something more specific because this is not happening to all the people.

So you're Rock Volnutt :D

Seeing DarknessTear's message down there though I feel glad that I'm probably not the healer he's talking about. At the same time I wish maybe he could have reasoned with the healer a bit? The first time I went into Brayflox with a team, the archer quit after we wiped at the first gate thing (admittedly my fault). The good thing was the tank gave me some tips, but I felt annoyed that someone thought he was too important to play with players who might have a little trouble. We only wiped once, compared to later when I played with an incompetent tank and a lancer who thought he could tank we wiped 3 times at that gate. If I hadn't been partying with one extra buddy who wanted to get out I might have just tried to sit down and reason with them.

Said tank and lancer had the fabulous names of Noctis Strife and Cioud Caelum. Pretty hilarious mix together.

Beta complete.

Finally got the Cavalry Cuirass so I'm done with the beta, although I will still play with some friends later today but my managed to complete my goal before this test ended.

too bad you won't get to keep it )..;

Can't wait for open beta.

I just wanted to get the full set before the end of the beta. But it's ok since I have a full Heavy Darklight set on my legacy character, which is not this miqo'te. Also the Militia set which looks basically the same.

It's hard to pinpoint one thing that interests or excites me about MMOs. It's probably just the community and like you said, the living fantasy world. If I'm playing a MMO without friends, I tend to lose interest very quickly. I also really enjoy doing end-game raids and being challenged to work as a team.

----

Are other Legacy members thinking about changing their race? I'm currently lalafell, but tempted to change into something else... And I'm not sure which city I want to start in during phase 4. I generally start in Gridania because that's where my class guild is for my CNJ/WHM, but it might be nice starting somewhere new. Of course, if Arcanist is going to be in phase 4 (rumored), I'll probably start in Limsa so I can make use out of all the main scenario story exp for that class.

Question. I remember when I had FFXI back then, I was able to swap the music for my own custom songs.

Am I able to do the same in FFXIV?

Im a male Hyur and thinking about changing to a female Miqote. Im just bored of always being the same race in all MMOs I play.

I'm an Elezen, dunno which of the 2 types, but the one that resembles my FFXI char anyway, and for a time I was thinking on changing to Hyur come launch, since they now have the hair style I like on Elezen, but I made my mind up and I'm not changing races, I'll just add a scar or something and change the second name, since I don't really like it.

Man, it's so hard to come up with a second name after I called myself Khrno for so long, that's really annoying and all Tanaka's fault, but also Yoshi's for not getting rid of the second name for ARR.

Probably, all you have to do is swap the music .dat files (or whatever format they are).

is there some sort of GAF caln or group I can join. I keep seeing people running around with a <<GAF>> tag.

alos if there is how do I join?

My character is called Jet Kjellin

Yeah, I really wish we only had one name as well. I really want to keep my first name, but can't decide on a second really. Might just keep it the same as it is now. *shrug*

Also, the chocobo music that plays when you rent one is SO much better than the one that plays with your personal/grand company chocobo, imo. I wish there was an option to choose which theme you wanted.

I'm changing from Highlander Hyur to Lalafell!

I'm probably changing to male Miqo'te unless I can find a Elezen design I really like.

I really can't wait to explore the snowy area:

65f23f6c-s.jpg

Always love ice/snow areas in games. xD

I think that huge Behemoth FATE NM is up in there iirc. I really do hope they make FATEs worth doing still at high level. Some sort of rare drop (even if it's vanity only) system for them would be cool.

I agree, FATE fights are cool and all, but just for exp or seals isn't really going to cut it.

Hope they use Behemoth as a normal mob, and also other versions as a boss from both FATE and dungeons. I wouldn't want to see King Behemoth be a simple "level 50 FATE" boss tho. The game has a cap to raise, don't waste KB in a pointless lv50 fight.

Yoshida made a lengthy response in regards to Duty Finder (This is the same one from the JP Beta forums a couple days ago, only translated):

http://forum.square-enix.com/ARR-Te...on-for-same-world-parties?p=975790#post975790

Here's a few choice quotes as it's pretty long (but a good read).

As I stated before, the implementation of the duty finder is something I wanted since I took over FFXIV version 1.0. I even think I mentioned the word "Finder" during some of my early interviews. We worked hard on balancing the difficulty, information that can be obtained through the UI, the number of times you can wipe to a boss, being able to re-challenge in case you fail, for "party content that can be played using the duty finder."

Therefore, players will be able to solo their way through level 1 to 15 as a battle class. From level 15 to 35, the players will "learn the basics of party play." After level 35, we expect some players to really start talking about the mechanics and strategies for boss battles.

Even with the 2.5 second global cooldown, from a newbie standpoint, it's almost impossible to have a conversation during battle. Therefore, we intentionally left some extra room during the content (i.e. at the start, before a boss battle, when opening a treasure chest after the boss battle, etc.) to make it easier for players to say converse and to strategize (not including the battles that occur during the main scenario after defeating Ifrit). We would like new players to start using the chat after they are comfortable with the game.

Therefore, we're not expecting players to chat during battle until they reach the high-level content. Chat should mainly take place "in between battles," "in between content," "in the city/field," and "during FATE." Of course, we expect players to form a party through /shout to have a better chance of beating battle content. While shouting may take some courage, I personally love seeing the conversations that take place via say and shout. I look forward to players talking about item stats, strategies, linkshell/free company recruiting, and general Q&A. We'll do our best to support the players from the system-side and the through the Lodestone. However, please note that no matter how fulfilling the system is, it's up to the players to utilize the system to communicate with other players.

We plan on actively supporting the community by enhancing the linkshell/free company features, invite features, implementation of a mentor system, etc. What would an MMORPG be without friends?

Of course, for high-level content, simply relying on the Duty Finder alone could make clearing some content difficult, and there will be cases where you need to partner up with those around you. We understand the importance and necessity of communication. If you’re worried about the potential loss of communication because of the duty finder, please do not worry.

The main purpose of the duty finder is to "be able to experience party play immediately after logging into the game." In other words, the "matching speed" is a key factor of the feature.

Nowadays, people are generally very busy and don't have as much free time to play games as much as they used to. We would like our players to continue enjoying our MMORPG for a long time. In order to make that happen, we feel it’s important to provide an environment where the players always have something to do when they log into the game. It’s difficult for certain players to enjoy an MMORPG when it takes an hour to form a party (while there are some players that do have that free time).

Also, they have no plans for same server Duty Finder options, and they are still thinking very carefully about a poll-based kick feature due to the many ways it can be abused.

I've this problem and I'm a tank, so it's super annoying. I've to move the second an AOE ring/frontal attack shows up.

I'm European so I've like 150 ms or so, I guess.

Fall damage delay.

If that picture is the banner that's kinda sucky. Should be one of the city flags or a map or something, not some CG poster.

I like the poster they had for sale in the SE shop after 1.0 release, it was a double-sided poster, one side with the classic CG party image from back then, and in the other side Yoshida's artwork.

I'm European so I've like 150 ms or so, I guess.

So do I. I'm in the UK to be more specific, with a Virgin Media connection of 60 Mbps.
