When I login tot he client it says I need a service account. It links to account management where It says I need to enter my name, address, and I think payment information.

This is just for when it releases right?

You'll have a service account when you get sent a code for the OB lol. You gotta log in at http://entry.ffxiv.com/ tonight to get the code.

And all the payment info will be for launch.

I dunno if effeminate males were traditional in FF series, but it has been going in that direction for a while now.

I hope they offer more customization options for Highlanders. They had the least when I fiddled with creation in beta.

It's been 13 years since Nomura started doing character designs for FF games, so I guess you can already call it traditional :lol

Me too. I want normal hair and not some some feathery braided shit.

I don't think the Highland Hyur's are exactly what Westerners want. It's like Japan doesn't even understand the concept of middle ground. Either you want to play as an effeminate man-child or you want to play as a large brute :lol

I've never heard many complaints about XI's designs though or Yoshida's work in general outside of the shit they shoehorned in, like oh say Van. He's not really been able to do much in the way of classical, rustic designs for awhile (YAY TACTICS OGRE YAY), so I am a little sad (even though I like the XI races) that there's so much recycle going from XI to XIV.

Nomura and his eye poison designs aren't involved so it's not going to be a big deal either way.

Is the key tied to your login? I don't want a bunch of bitches getting 10 with 10 logins.

I would imagine its one beta code per SE account, but good point I wonder how they plan to stop that happening.

You can see now its not going to go to plan.

"2.Log in with your Square Enix account and have a registration code issued.

Worse case scenario, they have a cap. Then the unlucky ones have to check back all day waiting for them to decide if they have enough room on their servers because of people having multiple unused keys and people quitting for having a shitty pc.

A friend of mine got into Beta from phase 1. He doesn't have a computer capable of even sort of running the game.

You know what happened to the code? Nothing. The ass wouldn't even let someone use it who could. Hate people like that.

I really dont know why they felt like restricting access to the already chosen closed beta testers. I would think thatd help the situation tonight a little bit since all of the closed testers wouldnt need to apply again.

But no, they go back in time to last December when it took us all 2 hours and 4000 page refreshes to initially apply.

Ass. Maybe my scenario is good then. Seems logical based of their statement.

Thats it!, im setting up an automated log in server.

Of course Japan are going to have the least latency so they will have the advantage.

Good luck though everyone :p

I tried to download the update that just came out today, but I keep getting an error. Anyone having this problem?

I'm at school right now. Maybe they don't let you download from a public connection?

I got frustrated and deleted everything and am starting over (got confused by downloading a bunch of patches manually :lol ).

Anyway, this updated rapes my CPU for some reason (E8400 3.0).

Bounces from 50% - 100%. Sometimes staying at 100% usage for long periods of time. Windows 7 64 bit.

So is this Beta open to anyone, or are signups closed? I'm from UK so the Beta doesn't hit until tomorrow, but I was just wondering how to get access to it.

Anyone have direct links for the newer patch files (megaupload/fileshare/hotfile/etc.)?

I'm 10/11 on the updater DLing: D2010.09.01.2000

I'm assuming there's one more file after, and it's goin soooo slow.

And just in case: Do all of the newer patches go into the same patches folder inside d96437e6?

We've barely worked out how people who are already in the beta are getting in. I guess you can try going to entry.ffxiv.com with everyone else at 7 Pacific and see what happens.

1. Make an SE Account

2. Download the installer and update.

3. at 3am BST log in at http://entry.ffxiv.com/eu/index.html and get your beta code.

4. Link the code to the services of your SE account.

We've barely worked out how people who are already in the beta are getting in...

Can you elaborate a bit on that? Will we need to get another key? Or will our account work without registering another key?

Thanks

Unless SE sends us all emails in the next 6 hours with keys, we have to camp the website with everyone else tonight.

but I just checked where the download client drops the patches and it drops them in \bca2a8ae\patch.

btw, I chose EU and English as my region and language, does this make any difference? I know that the EU beta is tomorrow but I wanna be ready in advance.

I still don't like the way those abilities look. Without having played the game at this point, it looks like to be the "ultimate tank" you'd need to level Pugilist to 42, Gladiator and Marauder to 50 (with shield at 50), and both Archer and Lancer to 36.

Unless Sacrifice is really good, it looks like you can get away with only leveling Conjurer to get a solid healer.

Thaumaturge get mana spikes (Stygian Spikes) which are great for getting back MP.

But yes the system does look like you will need several jobs maxed out to get the best out of any job.

I can't wait to see what Mage classes they release for this first expansion making the old ones completely useless and adding new abilities that break the game.

I dont know. I wouldnt say I like it but Im not opposed to it either.
In XI, I remember having to level a job and then its subjob which was only good until a certain level until you needed a different subjob. If you ever changed jobs, you had to get its subs all up to speed as well. I used to decide on a job that I wanted to level and then level the subjobs first just so I didnt have to worry about it.

in XIV, you have your main job and then everything else is pretty much subjob that you can carry abilities over so they all help eachother out in some way. I think its a better system than XI for sure imo

Well, the idea of this job system is to mix and match abilities from all classes right? So as you say, if you want to be the ultimate X class, you'll need to level up more than a single class.

I'm sure a single class player will be good enough, and hold its ground, but that's where the line will be drawn. It may seem excessive but, it is basically in line with every other job system in FF games. It's just that there is a higher deal of customization.

I kinda like XIV's system. Like Sal said it's similar to subjobs but all skills you learned are available but a bit weaker. I enjoyed having cure on Gladiator even though I cured for about 40% less then I did on Conjurer.

there is a beta manual link in the OP.

But the Dev site is closed.

The manual will be there, but only viewable by those who get access to the beta (who should eb everyone, but you know, SE).

The Alpha manual was, but it received many changes and additions during the Beta, maybe someone backed it up somewhere, check google to kill some time.
