Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

To not at least have that, but tell people to pre-order borders on insulting.

Don't forget to PRE-ORDER!

oh wait............... :{

That was really disappoiting, the only hope is that they seem to have a roadmap to follow and since they will be at Comi-con and TGS it means the promotion is indeed in motion.

The only redeeming thing of the ATR was the translator, that guy is fucking amazing, so fast at translating (and he translated even the little jokes), they need to clone him for every other Japanese developer.

I'm never gonna fault anyone with redesigning things, especially when they do it with the intention of making the final product better. It's disappointing, but they don't make these changes without thinking long and hard and evaluating stuff properly.

What I'm really upset about is the message being sent by these guys. Why in the world would you guys show old Regis in Jump Festa 2015? The reason why you have backlash is because there's no consistency...

Before, we could fault that on them having to make necessary changes to make a coherent story, but the things we've been shown even recently aren't safe anymore. What am I supposed to take out of whatever half-assed marketing you're doing if I have no idea what you're trying to do?

He keeps changing stuff THAT DOES NOT NEED TO BE CHANGED.

Jesus christ.
That's what I don't get. They re-announce the game with imagery for people who've been following it forever, but since then it feels like they keep moving further and further away from it. Is it at all possible that Tabata wants to make the story more "his" leading to these changes?

Nothing terribly surprising there to be honest, so I don't get the backlash.

Not to mention that's the "portrayed in the worst possible light" version of events. People love being miserable together. Most didn't watch the ATR, are just operating based on that (useful, far from objective) summary, and this thread is unfolding exactly as most want it to: a complete mess of panic, anger, and deflated hopes.

People are scapegoating Tabata, yet he's giving them exactly what they want deep down: an outlet for the mass production of angst that we have become programmed to love.

Squeenix confuse me so much these days.

On one hand they are littered with delays, staff changes, poor decision making, letting fans down (Tabata etc)

On the other, they have Yoshi P who must be the shining beacon of Square Enix of listening to their consumer.

Oh, and then we have a FFVII remake.

I actually expected this kind of thing for 15. 15 along with luminous seems like a hold over from Wada's era the last thing to fall. Its big, slow clunky, trying to use useless expensive tech they cant afford to throw away at this stage, and out of touch with the rest of the company in regards to its development mismanagement. Its been more than 2 years since the original announcement, which they apparently restarted development more than a year before that and they still cant give us any information.

On the other hand we have KH3 adopting the new trends with middleware like UE4 giving KH3 more strides than ever before with Tai Yasue's team. We've probably seen more actual gameplay to be in the final product than we have from FF15.

We have a ton of great open partnerships announced via outsourcing by capable studios also utilizing middleware, and we also have FF7, which if the rumors are true, is adopting all of the new strategies, capable outsourcing development, middleware and a plan being solidly executed.

I've had deflated hopes ever since playing Duscae.

Can't blame Tabata for taking the chance to direct a mainline FF but in hindsight FFVersusXIII scraps to FFXV was a stupid move on Squenix's part. All they had were some character designs,a couple of songs and a vague setting along with an engine stuck in development hell with no clear ideas or direction.

They should have canned this a long time ago and instead focused on more feasible projects with more groundwork like FFVIIr and KH3 on unreal 4.

Now l really wonder in what state will the game be if they're forced to release by late 2016/2017.

I like the new Regis's design way more than the old one. When the camera shows he holding Noctis in one arm and a sword in the other hand, I thought it was great!

This fiscal year is all about Eidos & SE mobile bringing in the dough; next year is all about SE Japan.

March 2016 - Dragon Quest Heroes 2

July-August 2016 - Dragon Quest XI*

October 2016 - Dragon Quest Joker 3*

November-December 2016 - Kingdom Hearts 3

March 2017 - Final Fantasy XV

That's what I think will happen. I don't think FFXV development has progressed enough to release in 2016.

*Usually mainline Dragon Quest release in the summer but I could also see it releasing in October, switching with Joker 3.

**Please note this is the Japan schedule.

Reworked ATR summary:

  • We redesigned Regis. No reasons given.
Why on earth would they do this other than someone's ego (ie. Tabata or new Art Director?)
  • Airships? We're behind and still working on it, maybe as DLC.
*insert "Haha! Wow" here* I mean, come on really? That doesn't bode well for these being designed to fit into the game that well.
  • We're nowhere near done.
Well that was plainly obvious. Why do you then keep demoing it and talking about it when you should be on silence and getting it finished.
  • We can't announce a release window, even if we do have one.
Fair enough. But then that begs the previous question of why you keep showing the game and releasing demos if its nowhere near completion
  • Important questions about black bars and cosplay.
What is this? I don't even...
  • The prologue of the game has changed!
Was it ever shown off? If not then not necessarily a big deal
  • Luna is a strong female character even though nothing we've shown supports that.
Haven't talked much about her at all to know much of anything really.
  • The girl with black hair? We haven't named her yet.
Only odd in the sense if they've not settled on a name, but doesn't bode well if she's not that fleshed out.
  • Main baddie? Who knows.
They have no clue or they just didn't show? It's not a big deal unless they have no clue.
  • Stay tuned for PAX when we'll show the same trailer.
    We will see what happens.
  • Feedback forum! Not ready yet.
Again we will see what happens.
  • New stuff at TGS and working on a new demo.
Again goes back to earlier point. why are they showing demos and teasers of this game at trade events when it is nowhere near finished or even has a vague idea of when it'll be released? Just poor management.
  • Malboro fight with a bunch of seconds of gameplay and a brief stroll through some new landscapes.
    Again, why do they bother?
  • Product placement for german beer.
Yeah, not sure what they were going for here
Basically to sum up:

Seriously, is this the new Duke Nukem Forever? I don't think that or even Too Human were in constant development for this long. But it boggles my mind why Squenix keeps trying to demo and tease this game when it's nowhere near being finished and they've really got nothing to show for it.

I guess mainly to assuage their stockholders and investors. But the reaction speaks volumes.

He already did that.

How many more times will they have to explicitly say that the story from Versus changed? Tabata literally details scene by scene of the beginning of the game to talk about all the stuff they changed there... And then he stops at some point, not because the changes stopped, but because it would start to be spoilers.

This is not the same game. It doesn't have the same characters, it doesn't have the same gameplay, it doesn't have the same story. I don't even doubt that the entire world changed...

Versus was cancelled people. This is FFXV, it's a completely different game. Hopefully people will start to understand this soon...

Man I honestly thought this was further in development and was really looking forward to a 2016 release..

my sentiment exactly.

feeling a little lost now actually.

They kept pressing "we're keeping all that original vision" button even today.

I saw it live at GC and it was quite disturbing to see that they have no real plan how to advertise this game, their message is so inconsistent ... This game really is stuck in development hell.

Don't worry guys, we'll get our 2016 release. The rest of the game will be a text based dungeon crawler ala Nier.

It will be the most beautiful text you've ever read.

I don't get people's obsession with a character being redesigned mid development. It's not the first game this happens to, and does it really matter whether this or that character is wearing a different hairdo? The game is faltering in more important places.

Man... I thought they were back on the right track. Guess it depends on the development team. Did they split the team up to work on the VII remake or something? Just finish XV first guys.

They kept pressing "we're keeping all that original vision" button even today.
This is my biggest problem with Tabata.

Heck, show all the terrible trailers you want, delay the game all you want. But lying is just unacceptable.

They really should have drilled this point harder.
Pretty much. Their fear of the backlash that would cause is resulting in a much bigger backlash against them for a prolonged period of time.

I've had deflated hopes ever since playing Duscae.

Mine go back some time before that, although I liked Episode Duscae. Just don't understand how people are still holding on to what Versus XIII was, and I certainly don't understand how a missable, awkward ATR ended up being the catalyst for so much pseudo-misery.

He already did that.

That's exactly the reason why they should drop the setting and characters from Versus altogether. As long as Noctis and co. are in the game, people will compare this to Versus XIII and early XV.

Why don't they just find a way to move development away from their inhouse engine to Unreal 4 that way they can get some actual development done lol.

It's tough to buy that argument when the game uses the same looking characters and setting as Versus, at least on initial viewing.

But people tend to not consider this when they see something that looks similar to a previous project.

Few gave Too Human the benefit of the doubt when many called it's decade long development out, even though the PSX version was a completely different game and no work was done during the Gamecube years. So it ended up being just a 3-4 year development.

FFXV is harder to nail down since we don't know exactly when XIII became XV and when Nomura was booted out and Tabata took over. But it's clear that this project has had super troubled development no matter how you slice it.

Exactly. Continuing to use Nomura's characters only reinforces the belief that it is the same game.

Drop Noctis and his friends IMO. They're only necessary if you're keeping the story of XIII, which if you are, then it is harder to say XIII is a "different game" entirely to begin with.

New Regis design kills the old one. Still disappointed they didn't even give a year for release considering how long they have been working.

If they could they would, it was probably to long in development where changing an engine would result in lots of bugs an possibly scrapping everything again.
