Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

At the rate they are going 2019 seems almost plausible, maybe next gen?

We got the demo in 2015 tho guys, it will be almost as valuable as the P.T demo.

Though I admit I'd rather have a Versus XIII Demo on my PS3 then what ever that thing was I had on my PS4 was...

What?

How is Stella drawing her rapier against Noctis and about to throw down with him passive in any way shape or form?

Am I taking crazy pills???

I need a moment.

Yups, I call BS

Probably my number one issue I wanted addressed in a new trailer was to have the deal with Luna cleared up a bit.

Instead we have nothing and confusion.

Tabata don't care much about Versus's fan, although he mentioned that he took care that.
Maybe, he didn't have interests for Versus before becoming director.
Yes, of course evrything they've shown are indevelopment materials until they release final game. However, 9 years are enough for fans to construct own vision to the game. The change inevitably have a complain, but Tabata underestimated it obviously.

Tabata must be thinking Versus fans are minority, but at least they(of course including me) have loud voice and big love.

This thread is amazing.

The amount of things that aren't done in this game is staggering. It's a different type of development hell for sure.

I remember now the thread about Square being back to its old glory, and me answering that yeah.. Seeing how they handle FFXV right now, i wouldn't say they lost all their bad habits yet. That and everyone is really super optimistic when they announce a super ambitious cgi like FFVII remake without any date lol..

It cannot be a good sign when you're asking people to fix your battle system after such a long and expensive development.

Why people think Luna is a weak character?

So far they've shown two scenes with Luna:

#1 - Luna sitting at a table in Altissia
#2 - Luna as a kid getting attacked by a soldier

In both cases, she doesn't seem to be doing something out of her own free will. Instead, she's simply forced to react. Granted, these are merely two scenes and the actual context may be completely different, but she doesn't give off the best impression.

Maybe because only his appearance changed, not his personality/arc. If Stella really was so different to Luna they probably thought it was better to make her a new character all together.

Tabata mentioned in the ATR earlier that Regis was changed as a result of the changed plotline, I think.

Not to mention what happened yesterday. These tropes aren't doing this woman any favors, so far.

She doesn't seem weak or in need of saving in the artwork at the end of Episode Duscae, though. She's all fucked up, but still going on instead of sitting and crying. Holding what could possibly be a key item she needs to deliver to Noctis (?)

Dafuq, now Luna is active and Stella is a damsel? Okaaaaaaay...

For the case of Stella, everyone assumes Stella wasn't a damsel. I think there is a lot of projecting going on, based on everyone feeling things were universally better in the Versus days. We have very little to go on from what she was meant to be.

Now speaking towards Luna as a character, they really are talking her up like someone important and independent, yet they've only shown her doing the opposite. To be fair, all we know is her backstory, and it's likely that she will need to break free from the limitations imposed on her. I honestly can't think of a better setup for an independent, strong character. What's left to be seen is where they take her character. As everyone is saying so far. WE NEED PROOF.

Nah, we knew she was his opposite as the heroine - a character forced to fight against him due to political circumstances.

How can you be sure that's it to her story though?

I can make up a bazillion scenarios after that fateful encounter. A simple one could be Idola using her as bait/ransom to lure/manipulate Noctis for the rest of the game, complicating things.

I'm not defending Tabata, he might actually be full of shit, but let's not jump to conclusions without official information. There's always the possibility that yes indeed, Stella was ultimately a damsel in distress.

Final Fantasy XV Director Responds to Criticism for Stella’s Removal; Explains Why Luna Was Chosen:

"Tabata-san mentioned that the theme depicted by the road trip is that of traveling with friends, and also the bond between Noctis and his father, as the car was actually Regis’ ride, and that’s a metaphor for traveling with him.

That said, he clarified that the game is definitely going to depict the bond between men and women as well.

Within the overall theme of the journey, the team reasoned on what position a heroine should take, and thought that rather than having a more passive and weak heroine that needs to be saved, it would be much better to have a stronger and more determined female character, who actively engages with the events in the story, and to play that role they thought they needed a different character than Stella.
"

Is it opposite day today? Stella was the strong character who had an actual portion in the plot being the direct opposite of Noctis, being in a majority of the promotional material and marketed heavily.

Luna on the other hand has been shown as the damsel, only sitting by looking pretty and getting attacked.

Tabata, your really breakin my heart with these nonsensical comments.

Even if you want to use the weak defense of "you dont know the script!" Tabata is probably the worst i've seen at showing and not telling, cause what you say Luna is is the exact opposite of what your describing.

Maybe because only his appearance changed, not his personality/arc. If Stella really was so different to Luna they probably thought it was better to make her a new character all together.

Okay but like you said, people never knew too much about Stella so even if the personality changed completely the appearance still look similar to Stella (the Stella from the 2013 trailer at least) why not keep the same name, no one would have known and there wouldn't be any concern from the fans.

I dug up the original interview from 5 (!) years ago:

Interesting. Thanks much.

That "not much was elaborated on" part sticks out to me, though. Honestly, "the scenario is complete" could mean a number of things, and all we ever got regarding Versus XIII was the rosiest of language. The person who wrote the article assumed the script was finalized, but that was when an abundance of hope still existed...

Damn this game.

This is just my speculation and headcannon (why am I doing this again after Versus? I have no idea), but in the TGS Duscae trailer, Noctis was headed to meet with Luna, so I'm assuming she intended to deliver the ring (or whatever she's holding) to him along with an important message, but then shit went down, she's declared dead, but just barely manages to escape it while still keeping her mission of delivering whatever the fuck that is to Noctis, and she can't just wait for him anymore, she needs to fight for her own survival and find him.

WHY AM I DOING THIS TO MYSELF AGAIN?

You're wrong, she was clearly enjoying a cotton candy when people invaded her city and said "unicorns aren't real", then she ran crying and ended up like that.

Well... what if before they showed us Stella's only two scenes where she is strong and in the rest of the game she actually wasn't? It's the same thing.
This whole judging by a few seconds is ridiculous. I mean, yeah, all we're doing is basically speculating anway but, man, are some here convinced that they know the characters for sure already.

Yes, it is ridiculous. However, if your changing things around you're bound to upset people and they will measure your statements on your actual work. In this case, you have Tabata saying that Luna is a strong, independent character when you only see her reacting to something.

I'm only talking about what they've actually shown of Luna.

*Notices thread title*

LOL what happened? That the game still seems 4352512 years away = disaster? Just trying to get handle on the situation.

I love the complete lack of self awareness in this thread. It's amazing.

Hey, everyone! YOU created this image of what Stella was based on some old trailers. You didn't know the script. You don't know what she was like. You don't know was going to happen in VersusXIII, or what is going to happen in the final game. Can you please come to grips with reality and realize Stella is your fan fiction Mary Sue character? She never was real, and never will be. Seriously, go write fan fiction about her, or move on with your lives. It's OVER.

Making Luna look like Stella in that art isn't really helping the whole situation regarding the change.

It's as if he is trying to erase all traces of it's FF Versus roots. I am now convinced by the time this game ships it will maybe have 10% of what was originally in versus. When they changed the name they basically canned the original versus concept but did it subtly by keeping some of it's assets so that fan base wouldn't go batshit. I'm still really looking forward to it but it is nothing like what I was originally expecting.

I'm really getting tired of Tabata's reasoning for all these changes....

Basically there are 0 reasons for him to be taking out characters or let alone making clones of the same character with a different name to replace the old one. He is self inserting himself so hard in this game that it should be considered borderline rape. If the new trailer isn't proof enough of his self-inserting, anything to do with Luna/Stella is.

I miss Nomura's vision of this game... That's the game I wanted. ._.

Game informer made an interesting comment too:

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/08/05/new-story-details-from-final-fantasy-xv-s-director.aspx?utm_content=bufferd454c&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

"As for the mysterious girl, Tabata confirmed that it's Luna (who replaced a previous character named Stella). Luna is one of Noctis' childhood friends, and while she may look similar to Stella, Tabata insists she's got a stronger personality. "She's a much stronger, more determined character," Tabata says. "She's got her own willpower and objectives that she acts upon. In some ways, Noctis is the weaker character. Maybe he's the one who's going to need protecting." Tabata made sure to bring out the vulnerability, but also the defiance in Luna's eyes when she gets pushed in the trailer to showcase this aspect of her."

Or maybe you could stop blaming the fans and blame the actual developers for giving out non answers and cryptic information blowing this all into higher proportions?

We're speculating on what we know and what we suspect for this entire game, nothing more. But what i have seen this thing turn into doesn't fill me with confidence. Excuse me for not seeing fit to blow it off as nothing.

He can say what he wants about Luna until he actually shows something of value
