FINAL FANTASY XV - Niflheim Base Battle Footage

Pretty much. It's weird, as if there's a vocal minority(?) who want this to be a straight forward turn based game, with next to no gameplay deviations to mix things up a bit. It's not 1996 anymore, and I see nothing wrong with Square Enix wanting to bring the franchise into the 21st century.

The combat looks great, we'll have a world with cities to explore, magic and the like. FF always reinvents itself, and I can bet FFXVI will be completely different to this.

Why does being turn-based mean it has to have no gameplay deviation or flexibility? Why do you automatically assume it's a relic? That argument is fucking stupid. Were all action games from the late 90s as flexible as FF15? No. So then why do you assume a modern-day turn-based game necessarily is going to be just as stiff as one from the late 90s.

It's faulty logic.

What are the two bars above attack and defend ?

This gif makes me think of NieR Automata.

Im not sure how I feel about turret sequences in my final fantasy, game looks fucking amazing regardless, and yes even though its been said "a weapon to surpass metal gear"

Why not drop the passive aggressive tone?

Just let the man have his opinions. Not being favorable to turrets isn't something to single someone out for, whether they have been in the game the entire time or not. The aggressive tone is coming out because he doesn't need to defend his opinions.

Sorry Teletraan1

Why does square need to make another firm based final fantasy? Just because it's been done for the series before? I would like something new, and the gameplay looks great imo. People who are saying ff15 isn't final fantasy just because of the battle system are acting really silly when so much of it screams final fantasy.

The one thing I want the most related to what they showed in this ATR is definitely for the weapons to stay there and spin for as long as you hold a direction on the d-pad.

Up until this one and LR they were turn based games for one. This looks nothing like the games I replay every year or so. Not looking like something I would even want to play the first time. It looks more like a MGS/Zoolander crossover than a Final Fantasy game.

Unfortunately you won't get a turnbased game again. So if you define FF games purely by their combat system then this won't be for you I'm afraid. Might always be worth trying out something new tho, action combat systems in Japanese games can be quite intuitive and have plenty more replay value than Western games I find. I wouldn't completely write off something you may enjoy without knowing yet.

This particular segment does have a MGS feeling, but it's still a very minute segment of a much grander game with massive world exploration, reality/fantasy smash up etc...

I booted up Episode Duscae up a short while ago and climbing up the hill, finding the concealed Chocobo ranch through the woods felt more 'FF' to me than any FF game has in over 16 years.

Turret sections (or in this case optional attacks) will continue to be something that I do not understand why the internet at large hates. I really cannot see what the issue is.

Are you the turret defense force president, client or both?. I just think they are fucking played out in games. Sorry if after my 1000000x using a turret in a game, my inherent bias is showing.
But apparently you like selecting Attack 10000000000000000000000000000x.

You best watch all of those couple scenes, aka wait for the female to flip out at her husband. I feel like they should be an ongoing gimmick throughout the game.

I am extremely sceptical of realtime combat in RPG, especially one that wants to be as flashy as FFXV. I am expecting shallow fights, poor AI and stats being non-factor. Furthermore, i feel the world exploration scale* and variety would be affected by realtime flashy combat.

*thinking positively, things couldn't get any worse after those FF-Lightning Edition games.

No, it's more interconnected & open than that. It's not AS open world as something like GTAs where you can go anywhere from the beginning of the game, but it's not just big areas connected by linear roads either. For example, the Episode Duscae map was like this:

But that's part of the world like this (you can see the ED area in the map there):

Nice, but can you explore all of that area in that overworld map? Or is it, in effect, limited to specific areas, like the picture I posted? (Ie, Dragon's Dogma -- huge overworld map, but you were limited to a small section of that. Or the Two Worlds 2 world map -- lots of islands, and one very large one, but you could only explore a couple of the smaller ones.).

Based on the lack of detail (Assuming that it'll be like that in the finished game, and there's no fog.) of the other areas in that overworld map, it looks like it'll work something like the image I posted. As in, you can drive all over the roads in that map, but you can only explore some of the map -- ie, to get from one area to the other (Duscae to another.), you'd need to use the roads, and the only area you can explore (Excluding the linear roads, of course.) in that section of the overworld map is the Duscae region the character is currently in, and to get to another you'd have to follow the linear roads.

Like Forza Horizon, but with some open areas.

So, it seems like, instead of using a menu to choose a level (Open area.), you use a road.

I LOVE THAT. I hate overdesigned levels which only look super artificial. What does it look like if you look outside your window?

I meant in comparison to the areas they have explored in the videos so far.

Though people have said you can jump over the fence, certain areas don't look like part of the actual, explorable world. It looks like the areas will be segmented for the "car trip" vibe. I just doubt that you'll be able to freely explore the areas in the distance -- if you really could, the world would have to be massive, like 500+ square miles. And if the fence doesn't stop you, will invisible walls?

Thanks. Someone reasonable. Usual hype thread. Anything you say that isn't part of the circle jerk gets jumped on by someone hard. Happens in every thread like this.

Anyways I was hoping to see something that would entice me to be interested in this game but still nothing. I say this as a person whose favorite game series of all time is
was
Final Fantasy.

"lets show off a low framerate video in a dark as fuck barren industrial complex with a dozen mech clones and soldier clones"

So yeah, still don't think this game looks all that great. Everytime they show it off i feel like I'm watching some kind of tech demo or kickstarter footage using a pretty good looking engine to show off some early enviroments and gameplay.

I don't recall saying any of the things you appear to be arguing against.

Its a rock solid 30fps. You may need to check your settings.

if this really does come to pass, this series is dead to me. Ill play FFXV, but if action is the future of the series I want out

Still not sure what to think. The graphics are nice, the music is nice. The combat just looks a bit.. messy? It seems like it's something you need to play to get how it'll feel.

This specific trailer itself isn't doing much for me as it looks like Metal Gear FInal Fantasy. I hope they show off some more of the Fantasy-esque stuff in the future.

Not a fan of the Dragoon design, seems silly. Kind of makes me wonder what happened with their more recent designs, considering XIII was actually pretty good for female designs outside of maybe a few niggles. It feels like they've gone backward with LR and XV. x.x

I hope at some point within the game, the boys fight an old time general who is tired of these young wipper snappers way of fighting and casts a spell to make them fight like in the older final fantasy games, just as a nod to the series' history.

That trailer solidifies my purchase. I didn't actually play the demo but watched enough to get my interest but now the game looks polished enough that I'm full fledged hyped.

PC release?

Of course. Only reacted to the way he was saying it. I couldnt CARE more about turrets/noturrets discussion.

Anyways, the assumtions that you can go to a forum and simply state your opinion and not be asked to defend it makes no sense whatsoever. Get a YouTube channel for that stuff.

Her design is from Versus XIII, so not exactly recent.

There are other FF games like Chrystal Chronicles (maybe?) and Type that may go in directions you find more appealing, or maybe the next mainline FF will have a less action oriented combat system its not like they have never taken a step back before (X) but its not looking likely. I hear Bravely Default is much more like traditional FF.

I especially like what this kind of combat makes possible, like how the magic affects the environment and weather makes it more powerful or more confined. its really cool and much more immersive to me than classic FF.

In his case its perfectly reasonable. No you dont have to defend wheter or not you find a turret appealing.. if it were something more objective like the entire combat system then its more of a discussion.

I just find it very annoying that someone cant state an opinion on a small aspect of game and people have to bug you about it.

Looks awesome. Whilst it does look like it could get a bit repetitive with the what are essentially too many regular grunts that act as meagre fodder, I do like the dynamic nature of the combat with all the arial stuff and sheer mobility of it all.

the problem with BD is that its a handheld game...im still playing it, but FF is the one series that pushed turn based on consoles. It leaving the genre forever would be a major loss

Hot. Hot. Hot. Hot. Hot-sizzling-hot!

All the problems of my weekend wither away next to the glory of Tabata! This music... this "Shimomura" -- that's a real fantasy-turned-reality! You can take your time making jabs about this being MGSV Chapter 3, because that's righteous!

I liked Duscae's combat, but this looks ether!

still worried that there'll be way too much filler content in the game though

Yall are ridiculous crying about no turn based. Nobody in this thread gives a shit if you buy it or not bc of it. This is an ARPG. Too fucking bad
