Hmmm can someone here give me some advice how to fish properly. I don't understand how it works haha.

I actually find myself having trouble with this now too. What am I supposed to do when the red bar appears? I am reeling a little to create little movement but it most often doesn't seem to work.

Also, I think the story is still good at Chapter 8. But I guess it's going downward starting from 11?

Yup, But this was a poor gameplay decision.

Oh definitely.

First few times when the sky went brown and I wondered what the fuck was happening.

Worst still, you need to get clear of an enemy before the button prompt appear which beats the purpose of a summon to help you.

Always hold the left stick in a direction, never neutral. Watch which direction the fish is swimming in and move the stick in that direction to release tension. Reel in until you feel the controller start to vibrate, because that means the tension meter (hidden) is filling up and your line's durability is about to start going down. Upgrade your gear for an easier time (vesperpool has the best stuff you can buy).

I know they tell you in the tutorial room, but I can't remember if they tell you in the actual game to be honest.

i just looked up the tip that pops up when you do a story summon and nowhere does it say "hold" and i don't remember other button prompts using the triangle denoting that the triangle means to hold. i didn't play the tutorial since i played the previous demos and i thought that previous demos had the word hold on screen for the summon.

I feel like my biggest issue with this game is the lack of urgency and a focused antagonist.
Why do i give a shit about the empire again?
They sure dont seem too keen on being any kind of a real threat.

Ardyn?
What an ass clown.

And then faceless npcs die off screen and im supposed to give a shit?

Just entered Chapter 8. On the empire as villains:
I can't even tell what Noctis and co.'s attitude towards them is supposed to be.

The only real motivation that I can ascribe to our merry gang is that they want revenge on the empire. At the same time, they seem to think Ardyn is creepy but otherwise have no problem being civil with him. Why don't try try to kidnap him, or attack him, or get angry at him over his role in the attack on the Crown City? They buddy up with Aranea pretty quickly, despite the fact that she had previously tried to kill them and (as far as they know) she could have been directly involved in the destruction of their home and the murder of their friends / family. They walk away from Ravus without really confronting him over anything.

Similarly, it feels like the named Niflheim are all relatively friendly towards Noctis et al. While random soldiers will drop in and try to kill them, the named side characters regularly interact with them on amicable terms. Which doesn't seem to bother the main characters at all, for some reason.

Also, Niflheim was okay proclaiming that Luna had been killed, but now it's common public knowledge that she's alive. How does Niflheim feel about that? Did they not actually want her dead, despite spreading propaganda that she was dead?

It's all very weird. I assume the game will explain it at some point, but this story inconsistency has gone on for north of 25 hours now.

Stop reeling and move the thumbstick in whatever direction the fish is going. Once the red disappears you can continue reeling without your line being in danger.

So barely started (chapter 3). I'm finding all of these things that go into the treasure tab in my inventory. Should I just sell those or are some of those actually used for something?

Also, not sure I understand the staying at hotels or camps. You get xp for it.... so should I just be doing it all the time? Is there any reason not to do it?

You'll need to stay at camps to increase Ignis' cooking level, if you want that trophy.

Some parts for Cid upgrades. Can be used to create new effects for the spells. Sell them if you need money. If not, save them for now.

I heard someone earlier mention that camping gives more AP (if anyone wants to chime in on the details, feel free). Hotels / Inns obviously give significantly more XP. Camps also let Ignis cook and are generally more fun imo.

If you store up a lot of XP, you can stay at a fancy hotel and get a ton of levels all at once, which is kind of satisfying. At the same time, it's seems like it's incredibly difficult to not over level in this game, so yeah.

Huh? I get the buttom prompt regardless.

Sorry, it's just that I have such a lust for that tune. :v

Funny, that's one of the aspects I enjoyed the most about the game. Felt a return to form for old FF games like VII.

Are you telling me that you never felt a sense of urgency throughout VII?
What?
And there was a defined antagonist by disc 1s end

My rule of thumb is to save at least one doodad of everything, the rest I sell.

Stay at hotels if you'd like an experience bump (to level up faster). Camp if you'd like status buffs and AP if you've unlocked the perk. Ignis will cook for you at camps and depending on the meal you choose, you'll get perks to your stats. Some of which are really helpful if you're going on a tough hunt or dungeon.

That's for when you have a bite. I think he might be talking about when you cast your line and the red bar appears indicating you have the fish's attention. This has also been a challenge for me. I reel the line a little bit and move the stick to create a little movement, but it's really hard to get a bite, and it mostly doesn't work.

Oh, I know I should stop reeling when I have a fish on my bait, but what am I to do when I got no fish and is just waiting for one to bite? Should I just still move my stick in the direction of the fish for it to take my bait?

Ardyn is the antagonist since chapter 1

I understand that you don't like him, but the game has a defined antagonist since the beginning

There's definitely a "get AP from camping" slot in the Ascension grid.

If what eventually becomes side mini games is enough to detract from some of the games urgent moments like weapon approaching junon or storming shinras HQ or retrieving the materia on the runaway train then well have to agree to disagree on this front.

The point is that the protagonists are free to engage in silly side activities despite the world being in mortal danger. The same happens in XV.

Just beat it. No actual story Spoilers.

I was honestly expecting a far more involved ending since I've heard near universal praise for it. I mean it's fine but definitely not the best ending in the series as some claimed. FFX and IX had far endings to me. I have to admit, the post credits scene was pretty good though.

I feel like I need to go into the spoiler thread to clear stuff up now though. The way the story was told leaves so much to be desired. The potential for am amazing story is there, but it's missing good direction and focus.

People loved the ending because of
the camp scene or the final scene with Noctis and Luna

The
part with Noctis killing Ardyn was just okay

I liked the entire ending. I cannot ignore Regis' specter beside the throne, and his moment of doubt before killing his own son.

I agree its optional in VII.
What i am saying in regards to XV is that EVERYTHING seems pointless because its a pile of nonsense plotwise.

Dont mistake this for hate.
I love the combat and the high end dungeons.
But I wont pretend the story is compelling to me whatsoever.

Flying with Type-F for the first time with The Promise in the background was just such a blast. Sometimes I can't help but love this game.

Understandable.

Personally, I loved the story despite the narrative issues. The journey was better than the last two numbered, single-player games for me.

I just wrapped Chapter 8 and started Chapter 9 so I'm not much further than you at all.

Re: The Empire, I mean Lucis lost a war with them and ceded all its territory, and then at the ceremony that's supposed to bring peace, they straight murder the king? That's dirty, and establishes the revenge arc pretty solidly. The inconsistency doesn't really enter into it outside of Ardyn, and to a lesser extent Ravus.

The impression that I've gotten of Noct & co's relationship with Ardyn is that he's helpful for selfish reasons that haven't been revealed yet, so they're willing to accept his help but they're wary of the inevitable heel turn that he's sure to make. Iggy is the the most vocal about this, but everyone seems to agree with him.

Ravus seems like he's setting himself up as a recurring antagonist, but we just don't know much about him aside from him being Luna's brother and apparently wanting to kick the shit out of Noct & co. despite not actually doing that when they meet. It's strange. I get the feeling like he's a reluctant villain, like he knows he has to kick the shit out of Noct but doesn't want to. I could be totally wrong.

As for Aranea, I don't really know what her deal is. At first she has the whole "I'm a mercenary" thing going on, where you fight her and then she's like "I'm not getting paid for this anymore, bye", but then you talk to her in that dungeon and it sounds like she stopped being a merc to be part of the military, and she wants to go back to being a merc? I don't get it at all. Did she sign up in the last two days or something? She has all the markings of a merc with a heart of gold who does a face turn later, though.

We'll see how things go, though.

those two scenes were definitely the highlight of the ending. I agree with the Ardyn stuff just being okay. To be honest I still need to read more online to fully understand what exactly his motivation was and what he wanted. I mean, I get he was like.. Cursed, but not sure why he wanted the lucis blood gone.

I liked the entire ending. I cannot ignore Regis' specter beside the throne, and his moment of doubt before killing his own son.

the part with Regis was pretty good too. I hated how they changed Noctis outfit during the final moments. He looks so much better in the Kingsglaive outfit. I don't like the suit.

I have a question:

So apparently because this game literally explains nothing to the player I came to the realization a couple of nights ago that I may have missed out on upgrading my weapons. I'm at the end of chapter 6 in
Cape Caem
. Cid is apparently there, can I approach him to upgrade my Engine Blade, or have I missed out on this?

Note: I am exclusively using Royal Arms at the moment and have been for as long as I have been discovering them, which isn't a bad way to play, but they gradually drain my HP and MP and remove the use of link strikes. I've been making my way comfortably through the game, but would like to fully upgrade a few weapons now before going any further.

The game DOES explain weapon upgrade.

And no, you cannot miss it. You can do the weapons ugprade whenever you want throughout the game.

I have the same issue here. I haven't really done anything much in terms of upgrading weapons. On that same note, how do you handle armour or clothing for defense? I haven't don't anything there at this point but I feel like I might be missing something with that.

I've been mainly relying on stat bumps from food at camp time and such, but am worried I might be3 overlooking something that I should be progressing like weapon upgrades or armor.

I just started Ch. 4 but haven't dived into the actual Ch 4 quest yet, so I may tie up a few more side quests before progressing.

I loved the english voice acting in general, and Ignis was indeed charming. But Prompto takes the cake, man. Just, Prompto. :)

ENDING SPOILERS:

Also, Noctis' voice actor REALLY delivered his final lines in a very believable way. It truly got to me.

Noctis' english voice actor actually lent a lot to why Noctis is my favorite FF protagonist.

Yea it seems like it was supposed to be available at the start of the game but as soon as Cid shows up at the place in your spoiler all of a sudden I could upgrade all of my weapons, one of a time very slowly of course.
There was no update or any sign showing I could, I was just luck enough to check at that time. I thought it was a glitch but I guess it wasn't.

So did you have to go and do the upgrade quests? Or could you upgrade the weapons if you had the treasure item?

Thanks will try this the next time I fish. Not yet in Vesperpool, so have to check the stores out when I get there.
