Just got to chapter 12. If I just go mainline story at this point, how many hours do you guys think I have left? Also, I was thinking of perhaps just dropping the game for a bit after I beat chapter 12 because of the fact that they're patching chapter 13 and everyone seems to loathe chapter 13 for some reason. Is it that bad?

So I finished everything. lvl 99, platinum, all post-game dungeons done, and I have to say this is one of my fav games ever. The story was underdeveloped though and that was kinda disappointing. I think not going with a lot of CG cutscenes was a big mistake. It would have definitely helped the main story.
Chapter 13 isn't bad. It's slow and long. I think you have 3-4 hours left.

Ignis is pretty easy. Buy luncheon meat 20- 30 at 100 gil a piece from Lestallum and just camp repeatedly. Should take you 30 mins.
Gladio is tough. You need to walk/run a lot.

I honestly think they were concerned with disc space. There's no reason why some cutscenes weren't used in the game, like the introduction to Altissia CG cutscene we've seen in trailers (seriously, so bh that we never saw Aranea, Iris, Gentiana, adult Luna, Altissia, any of the Archeans, etc. in CG...).
That, plus, the leak that turned out to be true said they finalized the script in November, which is 10 months before the initial release date. So they probably didn't want to overload Visual Works with new material when there isn't much time.
Now that I've finished the game I can tell you that is totally useless to wait, the problems of chapter 13 can't be patched since the problem is in the nature of the chapter itself.
It's just a bad and really boring dungeon that lasts for too long to actually replace what should have been a fully explorable imperial city that they didn't have enough time to develop.
In an ideal world the game development would have been completed after chapter 9 with Tenebrae, Gralea and Insomnia all explorable like Altissia and with many mainline story missions and cutscenes fully explaining the story like it deserved.
Instead the game development got wrapped up and they tried to end to tell the story with chapters 12-13-14.
It's basically MGSV all over again.
Waiting for a couple of added cutscenes next year or that they make the
ring

All of a sudden Noctis won't heal past 25% and dies every other second... wtf. Just wasted almost 2 hours of gameplay in a cave.... what gives?
Your max hp decreases the longer you are in the danger zone or when a daemon(monsters with purple health) hits you. Use an elixer, sleep, or eat a meal to get it back.

When it was initially leaked I was hoping it was fake because I knew it was a terrible, terrible idea.
I think Tabata stated in an interview that CG doesn't help sell games so they used it for a more "useful" purpose or something. That decision ended up using more CG than the game would've had even with the invasion being part of the game, CG was used in trailers and commercials, they hired a CG studio to make a CG trailer for the game, and used both the movie and the trailer for parts of the game. So it's safe to say that I think it was an excuse. Not enough time considering when the script was mostly finalized, and I guess they wanted to keep it one disc and without a gigantic 20+ GB patch.
I'm hoping the added story in the patch will include some CG but that's me being incredibly naive. There's no way.

Just beat chapter 13. Loved most of this game up until this point (never played a FF game before) but man was that chapter hot garbage. Its been a while since I was that bored playing a game. If this game would've started with something like that I would've quit immediately. Luckily it didn't so im willing to move on. Chapter 14 seems to start the fun back up.

Okay, so I've got a dumb question. I've been doing the Fishing Buddies sidequest (the one where you have to catch a crag barramundi).
I've been going after the fish that's gold on the mini-map and I'm using a lure that works good for the fish.
When I try reeling in the gold fish, my line's durability always drains really fast and snaps, even when I let go of the controller.
Is this the fish, or are the gold ones like rare ones or something?

I was more talking about the part where she grabs on to his hand says "all enthralled to darkness shall know peace". that scene was 100% a show of weakness of Ardyn, not Luna.
I also think you may want to stop projecting, because it seems like you are taking things out of context somehow, and spinning them to your narrative. There are a lot of pro-feminist parts to this game, but by your measure, they are "woman hating devs".

i love using the guns in this game! it's so cheap to stand far away and shoot =) yet so satisfying.
So there's no real point to beating all the Chocobo races? No trophy, nothing. Got all the colours at least.
Level 45 now, about mid way through Chapter 8 with almost 30 hours. Game feels just the right length so far for me - trying not to do too many side quests but I'm already pretty over leveled.

Are you catching the fish properly? You should not be reeling when the tension message is on the screen. At first I was going through a line every fish I caught but eventually got getter. The biggest issue I have is finding the right fish, takes a lot of patience fishing in this game.
Yeah Gold are rare and typically harder to pull in. You need to only reel when there is no tension in the line otherwise you'll put tension into the red and drain your lines HP. Even if the screen doesn't show tension, if your controller is vibrating, its going to create bad tension when you reel. If you haven't yet you can go to Vesperpool lake and buy a new reel and rod to really help out. It's like 30k gil though.

Enjoy the dungeons. Once you get a good feel for the combat, the dungeons are really what puts you to the test.
Did the post-game secret dungeon... I don't even have it in me to admire the admittedly impressive design of the dungeon anytime soon. As someone that's not exactly great at platforming (And even then, certain parts of the dungeon was hellish regardless), that was just utterly torturous for me. Worst time I've ever had with the game, even moreso than Ch. 13. I can't get too mad since it was optional, and it's not like I was forced to do it, but sheesh, that was just a downer...
Also I'm really irked by the whole not being able to save in dungeons. It's possible that this dungeon and the other ones don't mind if you leave for a bit and "saves" whatever progress you've made, but I really don't want to take that chance, especially for the harder ones I have yet to do.

Stuff like how the world leading biologist is Sania
or how all the employee's of Exineris (the powerplant) are women (this become more apparent when you notice that there are more women at night in Lestallem because they are off the clock)
or Aranea being... Aranea (ps: she can pop in around lucis at night to help you in really tough fights
)

Noctis learning about the death of his father and the invasion of his homeland
If that's the type of lazy storytelling they're going with, then having more time with this story probably would have been much worse.

So Ardyn is actually a Lucis Caelum, but the same curse that gave him immortality made him unworthy of becoming royalty, and he spent all this time trying to get revenge on the Lucii.

where he got the last name Izunia from?
Noct and his entire family lineage are actually the Izunias. The original stole the name of Ardyn and became king in his place. Ardyn was, I believe, actually a healer like Luna who tried to save the world by absorbing the demons which the asshole gods didn't like so they screwed him over. There are more details but you can hop over to the spoiler thread to discuss without use of spoiler tags

I thought the worst part of the game was A Sleeping Menace In Costlemark and the 100 floor dungeon but boy was I wrong...
The secret dungeon is on a whole different level! Whoever designed it should be slapped
It freakin took me 6 hours to complete it and no, it was not fun. It was tedious from start to end

Izunia is the name of the man who replaced him to the throne. Izunia is Noctis' ancestor. They took the Lucis Caelum surname when then ascended to the throne.
Huh, either I completely missed this, or it's revealed later and I just got spoiled.

This map is blowing my mind. A legit map folded up with real gaps and the image on each part where it should be. Even the bottom on the other side is folded up nice and tight with signs of wear to it. This has to be one of the craziest simplistic object I've seen in a video game. No wonder it took 10 years to make.

You pretty much got everything right. The name Izunia is actually Noctis's family name which he took from them just like they took the Lucis name.
