At the end of Chapter 8 and a little over 28 hours in and this game is still all I can play since last Tuesday. My only gripe is how disjointed the story feels at times. The actual story itself seems quite easy to follow (up to this point) and I really like the premise as it feels very Final Fantasy... But after some story missions it almost feels like a cutscene is missing, because it just drops you at a spot and leaves you feeling like, "uhh how'd I get here". So I'm enjoying the story being told, just not sure about how it's being told at times. The banter from NPC's and radio chatter is just awesome though and it really gives you a sense of place; It's just those weird moments that leave you feeling like something is missing that hurts at times.
Man though, so many hours spent wondering the world and completing Hunts and quests. I finally took a break from story missions to get my Hunter rank up and those are still some of the best side activities in the game. Especially now that I have some summons on hand... When the music hits and you know it's time time to hit that button prompt... Fuck is it just good. Don't care how many times I've done it, it's awesome every time. Also helped me finally take down two Lv42 Flame Giants. The destruction and chaos it leaves for those few moments are cool as hell.
I also really enjoy being able to leave the car on auto pilot as the bros will often spot some side dungeons or quests that are more lore oriented than what you might find with the "?" on the map. I've spotted enemy camps, rare monsters, and a few other things while having Ignis drive which has lead me to not using the fast travel at all so far. Also driving around at night is just awesome with those damn Deamons wondering about, it just never gets old. Listening to Aerith's Theme on a late night drive while the sun is beginning to rise... It just hits you in such an awesome way.
Can't wait to dive back in some more.
