Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC |OT| The Definitive Edition

The Nexus Mod page is up: https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy7rebirth?tab=popular+(all+time).

The fun begins now. :messenger_sunglasses:
Hopefully someones makes a decent Reshade that boosts the colors just a tiny bit, as they are a bit washed out for my tastes (it looks cloudy more than sunny in the Grasslands).
I used this one as a base for mine back when I was playing Remake. It's quite nice, gets rid of the grey filter nicely. Just tweak the contrast and vibrancy to your liking. I got rid of the border filter though.

The lumasharpen setting should also be tweaked imo. It's great for bringing out the detail in the character's clothing, but it can be a little aggressive with the new hair.

I also added the Levels filter to adjust the black and white levels. Not entirely convinced they are needed with Rebirth's palette though.

You might find that it's slightly too bright for rebirth's predominantly daylight setting too. It really pops with Remake's neon and darkness with blue green spotlights but doesn't work as well with huge natural daylight. I'm tweaking the HDR settings a bit til I find a sweet spot.

Hey - just wanted to say that your engine ini text add-on seems to have eliminated pop ins. Even though I had Ultra backgrounds, I would still get pop-ins. They seem to have vanished with this.
Good to hear. Unreal Engine 4 developers tend to use low or middle of the road parameters for performance optimization. This has caused me to play around in the .ini files a lot over the past several years.

Game performs amazingly with DLSS4 swap. However, when I try to stream this game... everything tanks. Not even Cyberpunk 2077 tanked my PC while streaming 1080p/60FPS. Something to note, but also, reminder: no game ready driver for Nvidia..

My stutters that are most noticeably in the city of Kalm, are gone when I lower the textures to “medium”. I’m not used to doing that but it’s a worthy trade-off.

Not sure if shared, but Ultrawide here:

Assuming this is using the same mod it looks really good to me. I've never understood the appeal of ultrawide until this video.

I just refunded the PC version and will stick with the PS5 Pro version.

Image quality is a wash between the two.

Asset quality and close up texture quality is exactly the same.

PC has less pop in, but the PS5 Pro has zero stutter. PC has some stutter in towns and the always present camera stutter.

No reason to keep the PC version. But I'm glad I saw it with my own eyes, now I can properly enjoy the Pro version.
What frame rate does the PS5 Pro version run at?

This game gives a great first impression. I played Intergrade and quite enjoyed it, especially the main story and wild set-pieces.

I really liked the story setup in the intro mission here and the open world seems much more pleasant. I did not enjoy all that time in the slums in the first game, so boring and bleak.

Slight worry that the padded side quests will get tiresome, seems to be some crap quests like fetching flowers and what not, but we'll see . On the other hand I find Queen's Blood fun.

Gonna try out some mods. Saw there are stutter fixes on Nexus. To be honest stutter isn't that bad I feel but why not. My main gripe is the claustrophobic FOV, can't find it in Camera options but I believe I read you can edit it with .ini tweaks.

Not sure if a lot of these .ini tweaks do much since this branch of UE4 was heavily modified by Square Enix, so there might be a lot of custom commands that are not UE standard. Modders are trying to discover them.

Personally I'm pretty happy with the performance with the game maxed out. In the fields and combat I'm always at around 120 FPS, in Kalm it varies between 105-120 FPS but VRR takes care of that pretty nicely. The only point in which performance might tank is when looking at certain sweeping vistas, those can get around 90 FPS but it's pretty rare (for example, just when you get out of Kalm in the story). VRAM usage is around 8-9GB at 1080p.

There is the occasional shader stutter that gets cleaned up as you play and some travel stutter here and there, but it's inconsequential to me. I will take that over the loss of motion clarity. I wish there were frame generation so I could play at 200 FPS and almost max out my monitor, but alas.

Rebirth has peaked at around 40k players. Remake has 8.5k concurrent players right now thanks to the bundle.

Here are some peaks for some Square Enix games:
DQ3 Remake: 45.3k
FF Rebirth: 40k
FF XV: 29.5k
Nier Replicant: 28.6k
FF XVII: 27.5k
Nier Automata: 23.9k
Octopath 2: 17k
SaGa 2: 16.4k
FF Remake: 13.8k

Think NieR and FFXV went on to sell well over 1mil copies on PC. So bodes well for Rebirth.

Some console commands are being discovered.

Here are the ones that control grass pop in:
r.MassiveEnvironment.ViewLODScale (1 is Ultra)
r.MassiveEnvironment.CoverageLODScale (1 is the default)

I tried them out and they work! Game looks amazing without grass pop in. There is a big performance penalty though, so beware.

I want some modders to work on making the plantlife more animated. For some reason - probably to not tax the hardware? - the grass is only animated when you zoom really close to it. Otherwise, almost all plants look static. And it's a shame because the landscape feels like a beautiful painting, but c'mon, Square ... CD Projekt made some AMAZING animated trees and whatnot. Surely this is feasible.

On another note, I'm 13 hours in the game and I am still exploring the Grasslands - Quests are done, I just need to explore a few more landmarks and then it's off to be chased by a gargantuan snake.

Am I doing something wrong? I have the following text in my engine.ini file and I STILL get some pop-in'd grass every now and then.

#DynamicRes.OperationMode=0
#DynamicRes.MinScreenPercentage=100
r.ViewDistanceScale=9
foliage.LODDistanceScale=9
r.LandscapeLODBias=-2.5
r.SkeletalMeshLODBias=-2
r.Streaming.MipBias=-15
r.MipMapLodBias=-15

Where did you find this information?

I'm not sure those do much. UE4 was heavily customized by SE so many commands are custom.

Nexus Mod
Didn't seem to work until I used the
[ConsoleVariables] line.

Now it works. Zero pop-in, and my 4070 Ti Super didn't seem to get a hit in performance, at least with the current settings I have for the game.

So now, the game looks perfect, plays perfect and runs flawlessly - except for the occasional crash at the menu or the map.

I ended up just using the standard DPX shader included within the normal reshade installation. Adds just enough saturation and gets rid of the "hazy" look.

Some weird comments. The game has been nothing but flawless for me. No crashing, no hitching.

There is only one explanation... I have a super pc!!

Regarding stutters:

Pretty much no issues. Video looks like shit because it was captured in HDR.

Same here.

There are some games like that on PC when half of people get serious issues and the other half don't.

I'm always scraping by when fighting tough enemies, can't really get a clean fight. I feel like I can't mitigate damage as much as I would like, even with dodging/blocking. My party members are losing tons of HPs too. I need to git gud I guess.

There's a ton of redundant looking mods on nexusmods for quality and stuttering fixes, anyone know which ones are the best?
Honestly I feel like a lot of those are placebo. Just pick the most popular one.

Download hook.

If you get a hit on performance, try to set your Dynamic Resolution options to 66% and 66%.

If you have a good GPU (4070 Ti and above), this will be more than enough to have a stutter-free, no-texture pop-in, 60 fps at DLSS 4K experience.

Made it to Chapter 3, and so far this game is great. I can't say I'm fully on board with the characterization - there are some parts where the characters act like fifteen year olds, but for the most part, I like what I see.

I like it a lot more than Remake so far, which I didn't think it was possible.

There is no fucking way I can bring myself to play the original again.

1st half of the game a is a fairly comical and lighter tone with the characters, I think mostly in line with the goofiness of the original. 2nd half more well balanced. :messenger_fistbump:

Jesus Christ, that Fort Condor mini game is a piece of trash, if you really need so many mini games instead of quality side quest at least make them fun.

This and that card game, it feels like no matter what strategy you use, you just have to keep replaying to get that extra bit of luck.
