Where do you get the Bow? In chapter 3 running around the world collecting XP and AP while doing hunts(around lvl 30 now)so I thought I should try to get some of the optional wespons.
About three hours in and I'm .. I feel like I'm missing something. The combat is very... opposite of what I'm used to in FF. Doesn't feel like theres any real strategy or thinking that needs to happen. And no spells? Hmmm.
Graphically its all over the place too, looks gorgeous to fuck ugly from one moment to the next.
Pretty much a very mixed bag so far. There are things I here I like, but nothing that couldn't be done in other media. The video game part of this is incredibly bland and derivative.
Here's hoping it changes as I get further into it. Either way, it just doesn't feel like Final Fantasy to me. Yeah it has all the trimmings, but... eh, I'll finish it either way... Cause Prompto is awesome and I wanna see how things shape up for him down the line.
Just two more things to grind from Totomostro... The mythical colors and the goddess Regalia skin.
I can't see myself using the colors much but the skin would likely replace my current gold chocobo one so I want it.
It's just so expensive...

still on chapter 3 and i dont know whether to progress with the story or level up and do side quests and upgrade weapons. I am enjoying but suffering in the combat...all of a sudden im using a lot of health potions and they are pretty expensive.

If you're using potions a lot, treat that as a signal that you need to level up, gain some useful Ascension nodes, get better equipment, or change your strategy. Early on, absolutely use cooking as a crutch to overpower some challenges.
Forgot to sync my trophies before replacing the HDD. Need to replay to sync Chapters 8-12 (I finished the game and replaced my save file without realizing it).
I wonder if I can just put the HDD back in the PS4?

Buy the standard Potions and pop them liberally. 20 Potions cost the same as one Phoenix Down, so it's more cost efficient to pop Potions like candy in order to minimize the number of times that someone actually gets downed.
I actually picked up the Ascension node for "Gain MP when you dodge at the last second" for this part.
The R1 "kill everything" spell (the one that isn't Death and isn't Holy) can only be done at full MP. So run around until you get back to full MP, or pop some sort of potion to restore it, then cast the spell.
Death gets easily interrupted by most enemies, but the big spell has super armor, so you can finish casting it while you're getting hit.
Good news is that they respawn so you're not out of them completely. I sold them all too since the descriptions make it seem like it's just junk fodder.
Finished the game over the weekend, and did a few post-game content quests/dungeons. Also finally watched Brotherhood which was ok, and Kingsglaive, which I loved.
Without a doubt, this is a top 5 Final Fantasy for me personally.
I loved the darker tone, and pretty much every one of the major characters (even Luna - after watching Kingsglaive).
Battle system is a lot of fun once you get it, like a more interactive but less granular FFXII system. The whole package was just really, really good.
I am really excited to see what they patch into the game, and the DLC that comes out. I didn't find Chp 13 to be nearly as bad as everyone else complained about, though it did go on a bit long.
There's a lot of room for exposition, and it definitely felt like there was a lot of opportunity for more game, and more explanation, and missing plot pieces. You can definitely see where the game would have gone, provided there was more time (lol) to work it out.
The 2 things I want to see patched in the most are:
1.
More time in the World of Ruin. I think everyone agrees that we should have time with the guys besides Insomnia. I also would love to be able to use the timeskip character designs.
2.
An accessory that negates the HP drain on the Royal Arms. I don't care if it drops from the hardest boss in the game, it'd just be nice to piss around with those weapons on harder enemies without having to worry about basically 1HKO'ing yourself, which I've done many times using warp strike with the Axe on a group of enemies.

I would say you can just keep at least one of each cuz Cid needs certain ones to upgrade your weapons. I sold a bunch of those so I dunno what he needs. But it's no biggie. You can usually farm for any you need if you're willing to do that. Certain treasures appear in certain regions or from certain enemies.
Wait, what? You can summon in that dungeon?! The prompt never showed up for me!
So when I'm fighting level 7 goblins Ramuh is all like "HOLD ON FAM, I GOT THIS", but when I'm getting my ass kicked by 2 Red Golems and infinitely multiplying Bombs and Yojimbo and freaking
giant petrifying dragon
he's all like "nah you're fine, you can take it"? Fucking asshole.

I tried fighting the Malboro that the blacksmith guy in Lestallum sends you after yesterday.
Yeah fuck that, I can't even scratch the damn thing at Lv. 65. Hell, Leviathan showed up too, and only took him down to half health. Gonna be a long time before I can manage that, I think.
Wow I am totally going to end up with the Platinum for this game just by playing it it seems. Which I would have gone for anyway but dang I just got a gold for the easiest thing ever (50 ascension skill unlocks). Whoooo!
I asked this before but no answers: for those of you with the official guide, are there decent images of all monsters? Is it a proper bestiary with descriptions and weaknesses, etc...?
I love the monster design in this game, considering buying the official guide to remedy the fact there's no bestiary.

Yeah, there's a bestiary of all beasts and daemons with weaknesses, drops, location, hunts, etc. Pretty well detailed. Pictures aren't huge but they're decent.
The #1 reason why I'm always checking FFXV threads is for news of the first patch.
I'm holding off playing far into the game until at least the December PS4 Pro framerate patch. Meanwhile, I keep playing the first hour or so of FFXV, and also, TLG.
For combat tips, pick up the "Blink" skill in the Ascension tree. It lets you cancel your attack animations by dodging right before an attack lands, and generally makes the combat against more fun against single enemies with good attack animations.
It doesn't really fix the hot mess of fighting large groups of enemies, though. As far as I know, that always sucks. If you're struggling, you can just hold down L1, sneak around the battlefield, and fish for Parries / Blindsides (attack from behind) / Warp out and back in for healing + MP + big Warp Strike multipliers. It's boring and brainless, but it'll get you through pretty much anything.
Or just 1 shot everything with Magic before the fight starts. That works too.
