Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

When you time travel after chapter 9 do you keep the items, experience you gain into the future?

Yes. Don't see it as time travel. It's just a gameplay feature to allow access back to the open world. You keep everything you have with you. This prevents the game from having any missables.

That feel when both Coerls and Elder Coerls actually have yet to give you any trouble, but you're still afraid of them because of the stories from everyone else here...

Oh, that's nice. I had doubts because the tutorial text said something like "you can't change the future' and I was too lazy to go and actually check.

Thanks! :D

I don't remember any of the music in that Ifrit fight cuz I was too busy fighting to notice lol

I actually paused the game during the Ifrit battles because the music was just so

Yep, they are all amazing. I love when Noctis starts walking backwards while throwing his knifes at the enemies. Swag.

And then warps forward, drop kicks the enemy and seamlessly moves into another combo. Really, the amount of different movesets and combat animations in this game is something else

Finished the game a few nights ago.

Random thoughts (from someone who has played every FF since the original in '90):

- The combat was enjoyable enough. The story was better than XIII's mess, but you can tell it was so rushed it seems like such a missed opportunity. I think it's a solid story with solid characters without getting TOO crazy or hard to follow, but unfortunately there are a lot of holes that should have been explained better.

- I think Ardyn is one of the best villains ever in a FF and wish more of his backstory was explained better.

- From a FF traditionalist perspective, it still didn't quite feel like a FF game and I almost wish it remained a spin-off. Some of the early Versus trailers seemed like a much more intriguing game than what we got.

- The final chapters flew by and were intense (other than parts of Chapter 13 of course). I wish that tempo wasn't all rushed together at the end though and chapters 9+ were allowed to develop a little slower with more detail.

- Not a fan of the map and the UI trying to navigate it.

I think this will settle on my low-end of FF rankings. I can overlook some of the many changes they made to the FF formula, but this game had the potential to be a really great one if not apparently rushed so much (if it hadn't been in development hell so long and wasting time with demos/movies instead of the actual game).

I really liked Loqi as a character. He reminded me of the Turks from FFVII - a brash, overconfident underling who also manages to be a thorn in your side from time to time. Too bad "from time to time" means twice in this game. He would have been the perfect "oh, not you again!" guy to show up during story quests. Like, for example - say you're searching for Ramuh's lightning stones, and at the second one Loqi and his troops show up. "I'll get revenge for the humilation you showed me before! And this time, that insufferable Marshal isn't here to help you! Hahahaha!" etc.

But nobody cares about Loqi. :/

Man when you really look at the combat animations they are quite spectacular.

While one of their goals for FFXIII's battles were to replicate the look of the battles in Advent Children, I think it never came close with the running up, then flipping back a space and the constant side to side shimmying between command input. FFXV, on the other hand... even without Nomura, the battles look helluva close to AC's smooth battle styles.

Is it even worth it to get the techniques that take up three tech bars?

I like them. Gladio's is good for when you're surrounded, though it takes time to build up obviously, and Ignis' is pretty good against solo enemies, especially if they're weak to fire... plus it looks badass.

The starscourge is a cloud of parasites that absorb light and gradually makes nights become longer. These parasites then infect people and turn them into daemons

Only question I have is, if Starscourge absorb light, why are Daemons weak to light? The longer they stay out when dawn arrives, the more their HP depletes. Shouldn't they just invulnerable to light?

Parasites and such, I just don't care for the psuedo-science take on it. Should've just called it a "curse" of magical origin and leave it at that. No parasites, just a magical rise in the tides of night and those (humans) cursed become daemons... end of explanation, and it isn't hard to swallow considering that magic DOES exist in FFXV's world (as do deities). Instead we get FF Midichlorians.

They are still magic at the end of the day, so no issue.

Its not hard to think that Noctis knew Nyx.

Nyx worked for his dad,not unlikely that Noctis saw Regis in Audience with Nyx,that Regis mentioned Nyx to Noctis. That they both met & talked even in passing at one point in their lives.

Noctis knew Glauca(Nyx's boss),not unlikely he knew Nyx.

Don't know if you guys have read the FFXV Novel but Nyx drives Noct around when needed I believe. You can read it in the chapter mai waifu Iris wants to talk to Noct.

Since someone else mentioned it I'll say it too but that Pitioss Dungeon was garbage. When I heard there was a secret platforming dungeon I was super excited and then I went there right after beating the game and getting the Regalia Type-F. The game isn't built to handle the precise platforming required in later sections, it's too dark in some places, and it's hard to tell were you're supposed to go in some of the sections. I played the first 70 hours of FFXV with a giant smile on my face loving every minute of it, but the next 5 my blood was boiling and I was cursing at the game. It left such a bad taste that I'm not sure I'm even going to touch the game today I'm so pissed and I've played at least 3-5 hours every day since launch. I know game development is probably more complicated than this but I can't help but think those resources would have been better used elsewhere (For what its worth I love actually good platformers and its one of my favorite genres).

Anyway the other postgame content looks more promising. Anyone know a good, fast way to farm AP. I'm pretty okay level wise (76) but I feel there a lot of unclaimed nodes in the Ascension Grid for how far I am in the game.

Character? Did he show up more often than that one time in a mech?

Yup, those later sections were nothing but frustration. The game just wasn't designed to work with platforming that precise.

I didn't pay attention to it myself, but please don't tell me the only official credits Nomura got (besides "Main Character Design") was "Lyrics", LOL. A "Based on the Concepts" would only be fair. Wasn't he not even in the Kingsglaive credits at all, IIRC?

but it wouldn't be right to credit him if the game wasn't actually based on his original concept. all they used might just be the character designs and the lyrics, which were properly credited.

I love that they are parasites. They remind me of JENOVA who was also a biological horror inducing parasite. And their absorbing of light reminds me of Cloud of Darkness. And they disturbed the natural order and caused a World of Ruin just like the one in FFVI. And they exist because of Ifrit's hate for mankind which is reminiscent of Zemus' hate for mankind.

This game really....and I mean REALLY stretches the definition of "character." Holy shit. Surprised as hell anyone remembered that dude as he has less screentime than Jared.

Many of the general themes and concepts are still from Versus (road-trip, "A Fantasy Based on Reality", Lucis vs. Niflheim, Noctis' powers, warping, longer nights, Plague of Stars etc.), so at least something like "Based on Original Concepts/Ideas" would've been nice. Btw, I'm not trying to start another tired Versus vs. XV argument here, lol. I don't care about Versus anymore. Just thought it would've been decent to credit him for some of the base concepts. Maybe he's mentioned together with Nojima somewhere, I don't know.

Pitioss's level design is fantastic and could easily rival an actual platformer's level design. But Noctis' little roll and some confusion with the physics system (with the 45 degree angle platforming parts, it's hard to guess where your character will land sometimes) make it more frustrating than it needs to be.

I'm guessing that's the intention?

Just finished the story. I thought people were raving about them feels in the end, but I got nothing. Really disappointed that they messed up all that they built towards with the "brotherhood". I mean, just from the point Noc returns to the end it's just a gigantic missed opportunity.

Edit: Okay, the MCU should've taught me to wait until after the credits. I get what everyone's been tallinn about, but still think they handled it bad up until that part.

He is credited. Play "Credits" from the main menu.

Edit: the reason I like Loqi is because of his voice acting. Even with just a few lines and a single (or 2 if you do post game) fight you totally get what this character is about. His voice ends up being his character. :P

Actually I had zero problem with the 45 degree parts (outside of the maiden section since I didn't know you had to go up her armpit and not down to her toes >.> ).

My biggest issues was with the last bits with the massive amounts of spikes and super precision platforming. Noct would either take 3 steps instead of 1 when respositioning or I would miss a very small piece of metal I had to jump on.

I found out after I completed it that you can solve the repositioning issues by holding square, which I totally forgot about X(

I just thought... Noctis is one of the most powerful FF protagonists ever. His set of abilities alone puts him above the majority. I think he only lacks in the magic attacks department, but this dude at full power can fly, summon a multitude of different weapons at the same time, weapons that not only he can use to attack, but actually protect him as a shield.

Dude is an expert on pretty much any time of weapon (A skill only Firion and Bartz would be able to match).

I agree with most of your points about Pitioss - but that was the best 3 and a half hours I spent with the game by far.

Kind of shows what I thought of the rest of it, lol.

Went back into the World of Ruin in order to get Nyx's daggers, stumbled upon some dialogue between Noctis and Ignis:

Forgot the exact words, but it more or less went like this:

"So Ignis, can you sense light?"
"To a degree, yes."
"So you'd know when dawn breaks then."
"Yes."

.....

"Good to know."

Beating gods is everyday stuff for FF characters. :p

Actually I really like that 15 didn't go down that route again this time.
It can sometimes ruin the mood of an ending (like with Necron) fight when a god or a rando shows up and you have to kill it.

Yeah, that piece of dialogue almost broke me. God I love the banter in this game. If further FF's don't have banter in some degree I'll be seriously disappointed. I don't want a FF12 situation where your just walking with bad running animation in silence.

Kind of an indirect confirmation that the guys were intended to survive the ending. I never thought the game implied otherwise, but there seems to be a group that's convinced everyone dies.
