Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

The FNC is basically FFI, III, and V, but with a "yeah, but what if the crystals were bad?" type of twist. Or perhaps they're imperfect, have their own goals, etc. So FFXIII is about characters cursed to become warriors of light. It's a fun idea, but unfortunately it didn't know what to do with it.

By the way, I wanted to bring this up, but I'm guessing it's probably not a coincidence that "l'cie" and "lucis" are very similar in the Japanese. ルシ and ルシス.

It just hit me that the guys are going to live on without Noctis in a peaceful world. Now I'm depressed again.

and prompto has no best friend to have selfies with and joke around

Man it really just hit me, but Noctis saying "Where we're going, there are no roads" upon first use of the flying car sounds so bittersweet in light of the fact that he's dead. The quote is like one of those things you hear when someone's just living out in an endless dream world, never to wake again...

That reminds me - if the ending involved all extant daemons being purged, I wonder what that meant for Niflheim's other experiments. Depending on what exactly he had been subjected to, Prompto might not have survived.

Also notable in the Japanese version is that the "daemons" were referred to as "shigai", similarly to FFXIII's "Cieth". I'm sure there are some elements from FNC still remaining somehow.

Bahamut's face really reminded me of a fal'cie

latest

Ifrit being the source of the plague and the plague turning people into daemons is somewhat reminiscent of fal'Cie giving out failed Focuses in order to turn people into CIeth en mass.

Also fun fact: Ravus' Japanese VA is also Cid's VA from XIII who also suffered from the same fate.

Bahamut's face really reminded me of a fal'cie

Just his armour though. His face is very much human, unlike the fal'Cie from XIII.

Although, the KoTR are very fal'Cie-like in terms of appearance. Wonder if they had a larger role in a previous script. They are on the cover after all with the bros preparing to fight them after all...

Ardyn is not Noctis' ancestor. Here's how it went (According to him).

*Ardyn was of Royal blood. He was next in line for the throne. His name was Ardyn Lucis Caelum, of the Lucian bloodline.

*He had powers to heal the people affected by the Starscourge parasite. Much like the Oracle of modern times (Luna).

*In order to save the people of the world, Ardyn absorbed the Daemons into himself. He healed everyone and saved the world in ancient times.

*However, the Crystal and the gods (Who decide who becomes King), deemed Ardyn to be unfit for the throne due to his soul being stained/corrupted.

*A man named Izunia (Or with surname Izunia) shit-talked about Ardyn and turned him into a pariah. Apparently he began a campaign against Ardyn, making people fear and hate him.

*The Crystal and the gods choose this Izunia guy as the new King instead. Izunia adopted the "Lucis Caelum" surname. This is Noctis' ancestor. Noctis is actually an Izunia, not a "real" Lucis Caelum.

*Ardyn was pissed. After everything he had done to protect the world and heal the people, the gods and the Crystal had turned against him. And Izunia (Now Lucis Caelum) had made the people hate him too.

*Ardyn's plan was to fuck up the world. Fuck up or kill the gods, shatter the Crystal and end the "fake" Lucis Caelum line.

Are you sure this's what happened? When I saw the scene what I understood was that Ardyn was the jealous king and that he literally transformed the healer into a deamon, and that's why the crystal cursed him with immortality, as a punishment.

Maybe I got it completely wrong, I need to rewatch that scene.

Also surprised by the lack of CG cutscenes in this game honestly.

The one after Luna's death was amazing though.

CG cutscenes do take a lot of space, especially since this game is dubbed and lip-synced in several languages. In older FFs, the English dub for CG scenes is usually off considering they're made for the Japanese dub. When FFXIII lip-synced the CG scenes to both languages, it meant having to store double the cutscenes in the game if they wanted to include both voices (which did happen in the Steam version).

And of course, the fidelity in in-game graphics nowadays means that you can have a really cool in-game cutscene (the KoTR fight at the very end for example) without needing to resort to CG.

I miss CG scenes dearly though. The lack of an Altissia CG scene in game disappoints me to no end.

You got it wrong ;p
I kinda was hoping he'd get to talk to Regis and the other kings tbh.

yeah it was very empty

One day in a FFXV development meeting:

Tabata: Alright guys, we need to sell companion DLC. Let's start with what we can do to sell Gladio. You know, the guy everyone is begging us to sell shirtless DLC for, no matter the cost.

Clever developer: How about we give him a huge, fugly scar right across his torso in his DLC episode! People will love it! :D

Tabata: Awesome! I can see it already in front of my eyes! :3

Tabata: Okay, how about Cindy...?

Clever developer: Oh, I had a cool idea there as well! :D It is regarding one of her breasts...

So why does the consensus around Ardyn seem to be that he's not part of Noctis's bloodline? People seem to think that the original King that betrayed Ardyn (Izunia?) took the Lucis Caelum name, but what about them both being from the same family? It just seems odd that the implication might be that Noctis and his whole line are impostors.

No ardyn was the healer. I think izunia was his brother, nocts ancestor. It makes the whole thing more of a betrayal. He heals the people only to be turned down by the gods, then his own family disowns him and turns him into a monster. Way worse than some random dude becoming the new king and bashing him.

^ I like this theory the best, and I just saw a few other videos that basically proposed the same thing (saying that Izunia was likely not a surname, but the first name of the King that shunned Ardyn).

I felt nothing for the Luna character or the relationship her and Noctis had. I mean, the game didn't really do a good job of making you care about her character or the sacrifice she was making. Instead of feeling like an important character she was just reduced to a mere plot device. You get dialogue from her on the radio and a couple of flashback scenes with them as kids and you're meant to give a shit about her death? Ugh.

This. She was a horribly written (female) character and I was just a plot device. And the first real evidence the story was a mess.

I love when you choose to take a picture of Iris and Gladio says he'll turn a blind eye or whatever.

Damn, do you get different dialogue when choosing different photos before you head off to the final battle? Might have to replay that segment for laughs.

The ending must be hilarious if you choose a picture of NISSIN Cup Noodles.

I'm a boring person and chose the Caem photo with everyone before going to Altissia

Ha! I picked
a group photo from one of the photo opportunities, I only wanted just the four in mine.

Posted this in the OT, but will probably get more discussion here:

Finished the game last night and while I overall enjoyed it, I have a few gripes. I'm just gonna spoiler the whole damn thing, so don't read unless you've finished the game:

1) In a way, it felt like a reverse of FFXIII. Where XIII was way too closed for the first 90% of the game and opens up at the end, XV felt like the opposite. Way too open in the beginning and then way too closed off as you continue the story. I think a healthier dose of open world environments besides just Lucis would have been nice (and in all honesty, I just felt Lucis was too big.

2) The story really started getting interesting towards the end. I would have LOVED more to do in post-apocalypse Lucis.

3) God damn, grizzled Noctis and the gang were dapper as FUCK in their king and kingsglaive outfits.

4) I loved active mode, but the ability to do Libra manually in wait mode was fantastic. Why can't they give me a libra button in active mode?

5) The empire not chasing Noctis worth a damn was stupefying at first, but I guess it kind of makes sense when you realize that the empire isn't really being controlled by humans anymore.

6) This game has some of the most annoying side quests ever. "Hey you, go here and get this thing and bring it back. You did that? Well do it again, fucker."

7) FUCK THE CASTLEMARK DUNGEON MAZE

8) Summons coming out "whenever the fuck they feel like it" just felt weird. I'd have more preferred it if they were only reserved for boss battles, like in the ending.

9) The whole Altissa chapter felt like off to me. It was just paced extremely weird.

Overall, I really liked the game, especially once I stopped being obsessed with every side quest. It definitely shows a struggled development cycle, but it was nowhere near a bad game.

I am fairly certain that the game switches to pre-recorded cutscenes that use the in-game engine at a few points, though. Mostly because it'd be too much stress for the game to load in all the assets at once (when you arrive in Altissia, it switches to pre-recorded at the last moment), or it's drawing in too much.

Is this insanity ?

XII's is absolutely masterful and nailed the atmosphere in every single location.

I mean just witness this incredible usage of Clarinet in The Skycity Of Bhujerba

Or the umistakble liveliness of Rabanstre

Or he unraveling mystery in Giruvegan

This is legenedary stuff.Greatly enhances the gameplay.Meanwhile we get an mp3 player and dead silence in FFXV.

Can't wait for the remastered soundtrack.

you have my axe. don't forget eruyt village

i can't remember shit from this games ost. probably because i couldn't hear it over the sound of my PS4

Noctis literally says nothing about the bros reconstructing Lucius. Nor does Noctis saying what Regis says imply that they survived.

yes, he doesn't literally says it but when he says "I leave it to you, Walk tall" I don't think that's empy words. I just saying that it implies that Noc wants them to work for Lucis and Insomnia again (so there's a point on them being alive).

EDIT: Man this thread does move fast too lol

The game's asking me to talk to Iris to take the boat. I'm level 34. Should I continue doing hunts and sidequests or should I just continue the main quest?

How long will it take until I can come back?

Sephiroth could wreck you if Supernova hit with some infortunate stats. Of course, it wasn't hard but at least it kept you in check.

Kuja wasn't too bad with Flare Star shooting twice sometimes (And Necron could wreck you with status ailments)

Ardyn? You would need to have 0 healing items and leave the controller in the ground for a minute.

Just because you have healing items doesn't mean something is piss easy. I died during Ardyn's first phase. I've never died once at Kefka, ever.

Once any of your characters learn Ultima in FF6 the game is basically over. The entire end dungeon just becomes a game of keeping your MP up.

I definitely had more trouble in Ruined Insomnia than any other final area, besides Crystal Tower in III because fuck having no save points.

Got my certificate of completion last night. Great game overall, but once Luna dies everything gets weird. It's a double whammy because the story was still kind of setting everything up and then it ventured into very messy, unfinished territory. There are so many things I don't understand. I felt a lack of attachment to the characters despite the strong ending because they didn't really spend enough time on them, their development, how they needed to be woven into the fabric of the story.

Like so many others have said, FFXV has the best story, setting, etc. in years but it's told so poorly that it doesn't realize it's potential. It's very unfortunate.

For a game that took so long to come out it is rather disappointing that the plot has tons of holes and question marks in it. I loved most other things about this game, but the lack of a complete, or at least coherent story from end to end really sucks.

I don't expect anyone to agree on anything Final Fantasy, especially the story, so no use really arguing about it. What I am glad to see, is that even though not everyone agrees this is the worst Final Fantasy story, the majority are putting it in the bottom half of the series, and I don't think anyone is saying it's the best?

Erm, I know a TON of people who've put it in their top five. It's tied with VI as my favorite.

Even if that were true, which it's not, why would it make you glad?

The story, the main characters and the villain are actually great, probably among the very best in the Final Fantasy series. This story is however told very poorly in the game and is additionally fragmented over a plethora of other media like Kingsglaive, Brotherhood, FFXV Prologue, the game guide and soon the DLC episodes.

It's just a Back to the Future reference, yo.

The story is way too short that's one of the problems imo

Edit:
Only 20 hours
