Finals Week aka Sleepless Nights & Adderall addiction

the class has a policy that if your average is above a 92 when you use your exam average for the final you don't have to take the final and get an A.

the professor just posted this, less than 24hrs before the final.

I love that, especially if you got 4-5 finals that semester. Unfortunately, it largely depends on the professor and his grading system. I think I only got exempted from 2-3 finals out of four years of classes.

40-50 is the norm here for final exams. I do hate when the exam is that much, puts major stress on that day.

That's insane. Some schools have policies to not make the final worth so much. I never took a final exam that was weighted more than 20-25%.

Cannot believe there are people here who have that exemption rule for certain final exams, that shit baffles me and makes me incredibly jealous. I can recall 3 computer science classes off the top of my mind where a small error in some program trace on the final exam brought my grade down from an A to a B. It's a very frustrating thing.

3 exams in 24 hours over the next two days:one Tomorrow, two on Wednesday, a 5-page paper for Thursday, and then 5 finals in 4 days.

I've also been spending a substantial amount of time looking for a full-time or two this summer within my field (No luck; I'm probably just going to get a job at Whole Food's stocking produce) so I won't lose my apartment once the loan money ends (I was fired from my work-study job because they caught me studying on the clock and I haven't been able to find anything else because my school blacklists you from working on campus if you get fired from a work-study position, and I've had no luck outside of school)

I'm going to fucking lose my mind.

Hang in there buddy. Just think, in two days you'll be done for the summer!

Lucked out today. Initially thought my Capstone project for my degree was due on Thursday the 2nd, but it's actually Tuesday the 7th. That and 2 finals this week. Buckling down hardcore, then easy classes next semester.

I turned in one take-home final yesterday. Tonight I have to bang out a ten-page paper that's due tomorrow for an International Mgmt course. Basically just ten pages of rambling about stuff that I deal with at work every day, so it shouldn't be too bad.

You misunderstand. I have 3 tests and the paper. Then, I have 5 finals as well, because these classes have a test on the last day of class, and then the final for each is cumulative.

The only saving grace is that I get 4 study days between those tests and the start of my finals.

I've got three finals this week, three next week and I'm on the border between an A and a B in every one of those classes. Admittedly, not a bad position to be in but it puts me in a position where I have no excuse to slack like I would if I was locked into a grade.

Ah, just got my last Calculus test back.
I made a 93. Not enough to balance out my horrible first test (76) and my meh homework grade (82 or so).
I have Calc final on Wednesday, feel really good about it but I guess an A in this class is out the window.
Fuck it.

what the hell!?

I'm assuming there wasn't any actual work to be done while you were studying, if so that's just cruel!

Oh, I did get it wrong. Well... good luck :(

Don't worry. Math classes only get easier from here on out, if you decide to take more.

I assumed you were being sarcastic because I've never heard anyone say that before.
At the very least I know that Calculus 2 has a reputation of being difficult.

Calc 1 wasn't even hard really, I just lagged behind the curriculum for most of the semester and didn't get caught up until April.

There was some staff reshuffling due to stuff moving around, and I got stuck in the convenience store that went into my old job (I was a barista at a school-run coffee shop). If I didn't have a customer in the store, there was fuck-all to do. However, they kept the same policies of "no outside books, work, phones, etc." even though there's only so many times you can sweep the same 500 sq. ft space in the span of 4 hours, so when they caught me reading my Neuroscience textbook the day before a test, the canned me and, again because of existing policies, I can't be rehired as long as I attend the school.

What's the last topic you covered in Calc 1? Because once you finish up all the regular calc stuff it's all downhill and awesome. Especially multivariable calculus, it's like doing exactly what you already learned, just a tiny bit modified. Then you can get into the more segmented stuff like linear algebra, group theory, Differential equations, complex numbers, etc. It really does get easier as you go.

I would say after Calculus 2 is when math gets easier. Integrals is easier for me than differentials but most people have trouble with it.

Our Calc 1 class is ending with antiderivatives.

Just took the ACS Chemistry exam to finish up my Principles of Chemistry series. It was an interesting test, and was nowhere near what I was actually expecting.

that's just fucked up!
my condolences..

I know it's a little late now, but I found the official study guide to be incredibly helpful. I got like 97th percentile or something

Next three weeks are going to suck so bad.
I have two 6 page papers due tomorrow and Wednesday.
Next week, two exams and a performance in my Social Dance class.
On 5/16 I have two finals and after one last final on 5/21, I'm free!
and I'm going to be watching the Xbox presentation in celebration

Good luck to everyone on GAF that are taking finals!

I feel as happy as a pig in shit right now.

Basically, at this point it'd be impossible for me to get a high enough grade on my Trig Final ( at least by next week ) to get a C in the class the regular way. I'd have to get AT LEAST a 90. Yeah unlikely when I've spent the entire course being depressed and screwing around.

Teacher set up my grade such that my grade for the course at the end of the sem is an "Incomplete" grade, and all I need to do is finish all my questions in the coursework program ( it's a math class) and get a C on the final and I automatically get a C and be able to move on to Calc.

Best part is that I have all summer to do this, really till next December. But I don't want to take too long though, dont want to fuck up ma financial aid (not sure how it could?). So I will prolly be done by the beginning of June, tops.

Thanks teacher!

Have one final left today at 2:45 and then I am done with college. Also have to stop and get my stuff for graduation. It has been crazy these last couple of weeks finishing papers and getting ready for finals.

Probably the worst part was last Monday when I went to my statistics class and found out that the teacher had moved the final to that day instead of this Monday. After I got over the shock of not having studied for it I was totally fine with the test happening because I didn't have to stress out about it.

had a damn stress dream about my final. Had to write a 5 page essay about everything I know but I had the problem of not remembering anything. worst of all was that it was open book but I brought the wrong book with me.

Listen to this man. Anybody telling you to pull an all nighter studying for an exam has either never studied anything actually difficult or had it all forgotten by the next day.

not quite right. certain types of people can pull all nighters and do fine, even in difficult classes. but most can't. and if you don't know if you can, then you can't.

Do people really need Adderall? I feel like I've eliminated a large need to study simply by paying attention in classes. Though I'm not taking any particularly difficult classes at the moment. I've also yet had the need to pull an all nighter. Sleeping after studying helps memory retention anyway.

We covered Multi-variable Calculus the last thing we covered was Enzymatic Reactions.
I must've missed that topic somehow..

I hate stress dreams! Worst thing about exams for me. Even when resting you can't get away from it, and you end up waking up more stressed than before..

I'd imagine if you knew the material very well to begin with, you could get away with little studying prior to the exam, but in that case you'd need to have studied hard and long during the semester.
Alternatively it would be perfectly possible if the material wasn't all that hard for you, which is what I originally meant.

If you need any help you can PM me or post in the math help thread. Lots of people willing to help.

Uni in America sounds mental.

All exams at my university (UK) are set in stone weeks before, organised centrally by the relevant offices. The only instance in which they could be moved is due to say extreme weather.

I see the other half of you guys are finally taking finals.

How is it going?
Got my last two on Thursday and I'll be done with my undergrad classes.

My 3.9 GPA is about to take a massive hit. I'm not too worried about my final exams, but I have less than one week to complete this massive APEX Oracle project and I'm struggling. According to the scoring matrix I have 6/100pts. Im probably gunna need 70+ to not fail the class, and it will probably cost me graduating on time..

Took my chemistry final today, it went well I wasn't too worried cause it's only 15% of the overall grade.

My calc final is tommorow.

Got final piano recital done tonight.

2 classes down.

Now just 2 finals and a paper to revise and then this shithole of a semester is history and I get to move onto an even worse semester!
