Finals Week aka Sleepless Nights & Adderall addiction

Finals are over, my GPA makes me a little sad, (3.36) but I managed a B+ in the class that I needed a 90% on the final to get that B+ so.... Happy about that.

Pulling about 2 hours of sleep a night in order to get 2 major projects done before Friday, also have a comp sci test first thing in the morning. Sleep why must you taunt me so.

Uni in America sounds mental.

All exams at my university (UK) are set in stone weeks before, organised centrally by the relevant offices. The only instance in which they could be moved is due to say extreme weather.
I'm in the US and they set our final exam schedule at the beginning of the semester.

Engineering Graphics and Public Speaking tomorrow.
Intro to Engineering and Calculus I on Thursday.

I'm not too worried about the Public speaking final, but the other three have me a little stressed. At least it's almost done.

Edit - And just as a side note. If you are on the fence about finishing school, don't wait ten years to go back and try to do this stuff like I did. This last couple of semesters have really opened my eyes about just how much I pissed away my early twenties.

My Computer Science professor cancelled our midterm the day we were supposed to have it. I stayed up until like 5 in the morning studying for it too, I'm envious of anyone with a more structured exam schedule.

I wonder if you can still request temporary GAF bans during finals week. I thought I remembered that being a thing a while back.

I have Financial Management on Friday and Intermediate Macro Economics next Monday and I haven't started studying for either :(

It should also be noted that all my Finals are worth 50% from 1st-3rd year no exception. I was shock to find out it is different for some many people on here.

I hope most US universities follow that method then!

Is that low or high for the US?
The majority of my exams over my degree have been worth 70% of the module, with one or two being weighted 50% (such as Time Series Econometrics this year which was half coursework assignments). I prefer exams though, so it's a nice set up.

Please tell me the public speaking class exam involves public speaking somehow.

For my school in Canada the course syllabus is given in the first class and the instructor can't change anything in it unless there is a class vote and it passes with like 75% (I have never seen one occur). The exams are set in stone about a month later and done by the university themselves, and also can't be changed.

Any other way is crazy, people design their schedules around the info given, just changing the dates is unfair.

The stress of a lecturer just moving an exam at short notice to fit around them.... I don't even want to think about it. My university sets exams centrally anyway, we nor the lecturer get any choice- it can be assigned to any day over a 2/3 week period.

Our coursework tests/assignments (suppose they're midterms) can move, but that's always been to postpone them (e.g. not covered enough of the syllabus/lots of other tests that week), and never forward.

Also, how common is it that classes in the US/Canada are tested on questions from the textbook for the module? Thanks to that, I can never find solutions to problems in most of textbooks I've used.

Nope. 50 question final dealing with the ideas of rhetoric and logic. Kind of an interesting final. Not what I expected at all.

Other than that, the finals today could've gone better. I'm pretty sure I did well on the Calc final, but I was thrown slightly for a loop on the Intro to Engineering final. I guess that's what I should've expected though considering it is a hodge podge class that is supposed to just provide an overview of engineering as a whole. What makes it worse is that I would have done better had I spent more time reading the questions (there were two questions that I realized after the fact I didn't answer in their entirety).

Ah well. I'm done now, and I can breath again. Good luck to everyone who still have finals going on or coming up.

I've got a month off and then to start my 11 credit hour summer session.

Thought I was going to get a D in Automata and then there was a phantom curve and I ended up with a B. Dean's List, fuck yeah.

I know them feels. You can still win a lot of scholarships between 3.5 and 3.89, though!

Yeah, and there's still hope that I can remain above 3.9, but I need to get 7/15 questions right on this Physics exam tomorrow for a B+ and even that is sounding high right now. That's probably not good. It's my last exam though.

For realz. Luckily this semester I had a good group, but yeah they are almost always terrible.

Man I never seem to get lucky with them. What makes it worse is it is an online class, so I really have no clue who these people are. Professors always seem to admit that some people never do anything, so I have no idea why they continue to punish students who actually give a shit about their grades!

I love how some people from the UK get off on any opportunity to bash American Schools. Things happen and professors have to change exam schedules, it's not because Universities in America are "mental" that's sort of pretentious to say stuff like that.

The exams schedules at my college (in America) are set at the beginning of the semester.

I apologize if it feels like I'm singling you out, as that is not my intention. I have just noticed this happening a lot around NeoGaf.

I'm a little late to the thread, and I'm glad I'm not some of you. Finished everything on Tuesday. From Friday, April 19th to April 30th I had 2 research papers, 1 policy paper, 1 group project (fuck group projects), 1 final, and 1 presentation. Approximately 30 pages of writing that required citation for just about every sentence between the two research papers.

It wasn't the worst semester end I've had but it got tight towards the end. Luckily there was only one sleepless night. Good luck to those still in the weeds!

Let's see:

-Exempt from a final that was scheduled today
-Gov Exam tomorrow but lol it's intro government so I'll start studying as soon as I finish this post
- Advanced Engineering Math Exam on Tuesday so I should probably study for that.
- Stats and Probabilty Exam on the next Friday, but I've gotten over a 100 on the two midterms so I just need to maintain an A.

Relatively stress free this semester!

Anyone have any close calls this semester?!

I had two large computer science projects due today, I booted up my laptop yesterday to finish them, started visual studio and went to the bathroom. When I returned, I saw my laptop was rebooting and thought it was odd....and then it happened..

Black screen, laptop says "Media Test Failure - Check Cable."

Wouldn't boot, thought my hdd was toasted because it's been loading stuff really slow lately. I had to take the entire laptop apart and just start poking around and seeing if I could find some "On/Off" switch that had gotten flipped.

Turned out to be the ribbon wire that connects my trackpad to the motherboard. If that is plugged in, computer won't boot. Was the weirdest thing. But so glad I got it "fixed", just can't use the trackpad anymore, but did get to present my projects this morning.

Anyone else have some scares?!

Bout to take finals for 2 classes I never studied for lol. Hopefully I catch Cs. Don't care as long as I pass the class at this point.

Thanks

Sociology and Psychology. Just did Sociology one, and I got lucky because the teacher really softballed it (god bless him). About to do the Psychology one at 2, I haven't studied by I'm still on GAF. I'll get to that soon XD

Next Monday through Wednesday:

Differential Equations Final -> Chem II Final -> Matlab Final -> Thermo Final.

In the mean time I have scholarship essays, lab reports, a transfer application, and a Thermo paper to finish.

I've been so on edge the past week. =/

Just reading this brings back bad, bad memories of my exams two years ago. Had Differential equations, Physics of the atmosphere, Groups and fields, electromagnetism, and baroque music(Don't ask, it fit the schedule)

You'll get through it, good luck!

got a 33 on my Finance final, still passed the class tho
#YOLO

class average was 47

No curve? Once I had an exam that had an average of Negative 30. My mark was a negative 23. After the curve I had a 71. That was a stupid exam.

done with finals. had to do some serious cramming for back to back exams and a 20 page paper that were all crammed together on the same day, but I'm feeling pretty confident.

time to sleep.

Does Adderall work? I never tried it, but my friend claimed it help get weeks of studying in days.

Adderall makes doing work fun. Not even kidding. And then you do the work and you feel like you just planted a flag at the top of a mountain.

Conversely, you can end up getting distracted and watch 60 hours worth of The Wire between Monday and Friday. Which is something I've done during finals week. But hey, my finals were easy and I aced 'em anyway, so thanks for getting me a Wire refresher, Adderall!

Sarcasm?

Adderall is literally legalized and controlled speed. .

There seems to be no way to get it without a doc's prescription, I want to check if there is any reliable (too many scam-pills everywhere) website that sells it.

Piracetam works a bit for me, but it's not strong enough, so I get distracted easily later

Yes! I took it for the first time. Started studying, ended up running for an hour straight instead. Lol.

But if you actually need it then the doctor will be happy to give you a script?

I made 3 As and a B this semester, felt good as hell to be the only one in my study group to pull out an A in A&P!

My GPA at my current university is 3.71, with my GPA at my previous college (one semester 3 years ago) being a 2.5, making for a total GPA of 3.57. I wish I would have taken college seriously at the beginning...

I'm taking 11 hours this summer:
Human Anatomy and Physiology 2 + lab
Microbiology + lab
Information to technology tech (online)

still have vector geo, calc II, engineering, and cinema. Should be out of here by wednesday
unfortunately I am incredibly sick with some sort of virus. I only want to sleep. Barely studied for my physics exam today but I think it still went p well. Hoping I can pull out the A if it is all curved

How does that even happen?
Aren't the points awarded for all questions supposed to add up to 100?
I mean it's not exactly rocket science...

So basically Adderall makes you get stuck on one thing? If that thing is studying then you're superman, but if it isn't you're screwed?
Is that how it works?

How the heck does American grading works? In Sweden, anything below 50% on an exam (which 7/15 is) is an F.
