Fire Emblem Awakening |OT| Lord of the RNG

I've been trying to level up Donnel ever since I recruited him but he's so weak. He dies so easily, and even when I manage to keep him alive he doesn't get much XP. What am I doing wrong? Is he just too low-level (2) for my crew? Is he hopeless?

You aren't the only one, haha. I find paring him with Kellam to be useful for the sizable ATK/DEF boost, and you can also surround archers on certain maps and just thwack at them to gain experience. But trust me, it's worth it in the end. I just turned him into a Mercenary from a level 10 Villager, and he's already wrecking face.

Hopeless?

Damn brb grinding Donnel

When you say "pairing him up", do you meant standing one square next to him to receive stat boosts and the occasional bonus attack, or actually using the "pair up" command? The latter is something I actually haven't played with much, as I haven't fully grasped its benefits yet.

Pairing up is key in this game. Reduces travel time for slow units, protects weaker units and gives a huge stat boost to the main unit.

Well I finished the game. Playing through all the paralogues too early kind of ruined the experience and made the remaining story mission trivially easy and pretty boring. The plot wasn't very interesting, and the support conversations are the only bit of writing in this game worthwhile. Time to move onto Lunatic, hopefully the gameplay here will hold up all the way through.

You know what sucks, many characters have unique sprites and animations for their starting class, and you will never ever see them again :(

It's kind of weird, the whole "unique model for the original class - generic model for promotions" happens a lot with first gen characters. You've got Chrom, Lissa, Maribelle, Sully, Stahl and Miriel with unique models or textures for their promotions. Lissa has a completely different design for her Sage class too, based on her sister. Most other characters, like Henry, Vaike and Virion seem to be just generics after promotion, without even one custom skin...

On the other hand, most second gen characters always seem to have at least custom textures for both of their natural promotions, keeping their main color there. I think only Inigo lacks unique promotion textures for his options, but his main color as a mercenary is white and blue anyway, so it's not very out of place. Still, it's a confusing choice because the 2nd gen characters generally have many more reclass options than the first gen ones... so, the unique promotions would appear much more often if they were for the first gen.

In general, I wonder why they couldn't have made a system where each character had a main color and the class' textures would be pallet swapped to match it automatically. Maybe they actually started development doing the character models like in Shadow Dragon/New Mystery, where everyone looked the same, head aside and only added the custom class concept later? Had they implemented some kind of generic custom color per character, the legacy characters also could have benefited a lot from it...

The latter, for all the reasons Crewnh stated. I don't think the character actually receives a stat boost unless they are standing on the same square, beyond the +10 HIT and that kind of stuff. Kellam, for example, gives people a solid ATK boost (mine is +3 currently) and a very good DEF boost (+5), so he's an ideal character to help with not only leveling other characters, but also tanking with glass cannon characters.

Pair Up also makes flying units so much more powerful compared to other FEs. With Galeforce on both units it just becomes ridiculous.

To be honest, Pair up kinda broke this game. The stats boost more often than not even the odd of a unit evading/blocking attack as well as that occasional partner shielding. A character about to die? Switch to partner.

It does completely break the game. Well one of the several main factors anyway. I played the game first time without using pair up much and it was so much harder even in the earlier chapters.

I understand the free DLC is available only for a limited time and you have to play a few chapters into the game to access it.

I've purchased the game but have not yet started it. Will I be unable to access the free DLC if I don't access it in-game by the cut off date?

You'll be unable to access it for free, anyway. It isn't being removed, just becoming paid DLC in the beginning of March.

Female Morgan is adorable. Vastly prefer her appearance and voice much more so than her male counterpart.

And then there's the fact that she comes in as a lv10 Dark Mage w/ Vengeance. Immediately gave her Nosferatu and just like her mother, she's already wrecking the chapter.

Ooohhhh... I just noticed that some of the SpotPass teams are not random!

Nino's team consists of a Hero, a Swordmaster, and an Assassin (Lloyd, Linus and Jaffar)

Serra's team has a Mage (Erk), a Knight (Oswin), and a Thief (Matthew). These are Serra's paired endings.

Lyn's team are two Paladins (Sain and Kent), a Falcon Knight (Florina), a Sniper (Will), a Warrior (Dorcas), A Bow Knight (Rath), a Trickster (Matthew), a War Cleric (Lucius), and a General (Wallace).

L'Arachel's team is a Berserker and a Trickster (Dozla and Rennac).

Fun stuff.

Nice find. So Lyns team is basically her prologue team minus Nils

I thought the Assasin was supposed to be Hurricane forgot his actual name, the other Thief but I guess it could be Jaffar, idk

Legault? Well I dont know, Nino was closer to the brothers and Jaffar.

That's the one! Well Jaffar comes in later in the relationship after the two brothers are dead and Legault in the support conversations and stuff talks how they were friends and all when the black fang was awesome and stuff

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
Just bought this yesterday, I'm to Chp 5.. and dammit.. did I miss where the game tells me that you don't take over forts by sitting on them.. and that they start releasing guys as soon as you leave them?

Starting over the battle now.

I haven't played a FE since GBA FE.

So this morning I spent two hours levelling up Donnel in the Champions of Yore 1 DLC. Pairing him with Kellam works wonders as he never died the entire time I was grinding, despite him being the lead. For anyone trying to level him up, use this strategy, as it got me a good 3-4 levels per skirmish.

As of right now he's a level 13 Merc and well...let's just say he is unkillable already. Absolute monster.

Fun stuff.

Nergal's party is all based on the named Morphs from the last stage of Fire Emblem (7) who fight right before you get to him.

Bow Knight - Uhai
Sage - Kenneth (He was a bishop, but there isn't light magic in this game, so Sage is the closest thing due to tome and staff use)
Warrior - Brendan
General - Darin
Valkyrie - Ursula
Assassin - Jerme
Swordmaster - Lloyd
Hero - Linus

It even stops at eight unit, rather than adding a final one just to fill all slots. Also, Nino's party being all promoted units results in the player basically being unable to recruit her (at least, by fighting) when they're around her level, mimicking her original late entrance as an underleveled character.

OK, my top three units I send out to BODY SOME FOOLS (first character in each pair is the lead character):

- Chrom and Lucina
- Tharja and Gaius
- Kellam

In that order. Tharja is especially great, retaliating all the time with critical hits. She even goes Kenshiro on people: "YOU'RE ALREADY DEAD." How amazing is that?

Yeah, it's a nice throwback at how they structured the SpotPass teams.

Adding some more:

Eirika's team has a Paladin (Seth), a Cavalier (Franz), a Knight (Gilliam), a Pegasus Knight (Vanessa) and a Priest (Moulder). Basically everyone that joins from after Chapter 1.

Eliwood's team is probably Marcus, Lowen, Bartre, Dorcas, Hector, Oswin, Serra, Matthew and Guy.

What would be great is if Ephraim's team had an Orson analogue who bails out near the end of the battle.

Ephraim's team is curiously generic. I think he's the only past lord who got that treatment. There's only a bunch of Griffon Knights and Valkyries. Even Hector at least got a General (Oswin), Trickster (Matthew) and two Falcon Knights (Florina and Farina - the Florina stand in even has the same skills as the one in Lyn's party), before filling out the rest of his party with 5 generic heroes.

Kinda odd not to have Serra be a part of Hector's team.

Ike's team is really odd. It has a Paladin (Oscar), a Warrior (Boyd), a War Monk (Rhys), two Snipers (Shinon and Rolf), a General (Gatrie), a Sage (Soren), an Assassin (Volke), and a Falcon Knight (Elincia). Apparently Titania, Mist, and Mia were told to stay in the kitchen.

Easy way to get Severa, if you have a few BEAST MODE units ready:

- Fly Cordelia over to Severa at the start to begin the escort mission.
- Move all your units over to where she is.
- Follow her with your strongest units.
- Eventually outpace her and choke off the corridor so all enemies attack you.
- ???
- PROFIT.

Also, female redhead Morgan (daughter of Avatar X Anna) is best Morgan.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with Neiteio.

Well I guess besides Ike's closest thing to a romantic partner, Soren, and Elincia all the left out girls are SpotPass characters themselves so maybe they just wanted to fill it out with the non spotpass characters.

Though Rhys as a War Monk is the silliest thing I heard yet.

Are there even generic female Paladins? They might have benched Titania due to that.

Question: is the dlc worth the $ so far?

It was worth it to me, but your opinion may vary. There are 4 maps out right now.

Marth's, Roy's and Micaiah's are all meant for fairly low level unpromoted characters (well, middle level unpromoted for Micaiah's). They all share the same map, only changing time of the day and start position of enemies and allies, with Micaiah's map having twice as many enemies as the others.

In terms of characters, none of them can support. Marth has an unique class, aptitude and can wield the Falchion(s). Roy is pretty much just a generic mercenary with red hair, although he has Dual Strike, which makes him a good pair up unit for other Spotpass/DLC characters, due to their lack of supports. Micaiah is technically another generic unit, but her in-game model looks close enough to her new art and she has Shadow Gift, an unique ability (well, at least for a few weeks), which allows her to use dark magic in any magic class. Micaiah's DLC also gives as new skill as a prize when you finish it (All stats +2), which can then be teached to anyone. All of them can be replayed for grinding items from the villages or experience.

If you're fan of the characters from previous games, every single npc and enemy character in these maps has generic battle quotes and character specific quotes with one character out of Awakening's cast - the game doesn't point out who are the characters with specific conversations though and you need to find an online guide or test things by yourself...

There's also the gold DLC map, which is more practical in some ways. It's a humorous map with battle lines for every single Awakening character and it's an easy way to get gold and even train low level units. It's also part of a pack, with two upcoming maps, but only this one is out right now. Another should be out next Thursday. The other two maps of this pack can give easy experience and various legendary weapons...

They cost individually 2.50$, besides Marth's which is free right now, or they can be bought in packs of 3 maps, discounting 0.50$ from each one. If you think they're cheap, go for it. If you think they cost too much, it might be better to get just the money one if you want to grind or just nothing at all (Well, aside from Marth's, which is free right now).

Three maps, one for gold, one for exp, one for legendary weapons
Hmm... I'm so conflicted. Sounds like a great way to power up, but also feels kind of "pay to win" and counter to the main campaign. Maybe save it for when I'm done with the main story and just want to see everyone pumped up?

Only one map is out right now, the next two will be available this and the following week
How does that work if you buy the $6 pack? You just download the other two for free when they're available, since you already paid for them? I thought it was like early access.

Is there a way to load during combat without resetting the whole game.. just started a summoned guy fight that I can't even have a chance to win..

Its definitely a "cheat code" dlc, its up to you if you want it. Seems like lunatic and lunatic+ are balanced around you having the dlc, which is pretty gross

I think its download all at once. I didn't have to download anything for Micaiah. So they'll give you access to it when its sold individually.
