Are people letting their characters stay dead in Classic, or just using it as a way to play the game a specific way? Personally, I'm soft resetting whenever a character dies, and while I don't feel great about it, I'd feel worse with a dead character. I wonder if I should have just swallowed my pride and played on Casual instead, but even with resets, Classic changes the way I would have played enough that I think it's worth playing on Classic.

I let characters die early in XCOM, Valkyria Chronicles, and FF Tactics, but after I finished the battle where I lost my first character in FE, I thought about it for a while and decided to reset.

No one gets left behind or forgotten! I didn't let anyone die in Valkyria Chronicles either ;_;.

Odds are if someone dies you'll be failing the mission anyway. Well depending on when it happens. If it's a few moves in then you're fucked, if it's right before the end you're probably fine.

I don't feel like that's the case at all, but I'm playing the game on Normal, since I didn't realize how easy it would be and I was planning on letting nature take its course.

My deaths usually occur when I'm being spectacularly careless with underpowered units. In one case, I died trying to farm XP off the last remaining enemy on the map.

Niraj

I shot people I like more for less.
Morgan (female) and Yarne's support convos are cracking me up. Morgan's convos have been pretty solid all around. Such a charmer :)

Got to do some more paralogues for children characters today.

My god, I heard Severa would be tsundere, but jfc

Also, Donnel and Sully appear to have created a death machine.

I finished earlier today as well. A shame the game doesn't let you save after the final mission, I was gaining about a level per battle in the final chapter.

Fight with the final boss was amazing, though.
I thought you had to kill him with either Chrom or the Avatar or he'd respawn, and I wanted the Avatar-kills-Grima ending, so I wasn't able just to wail on him with Chrom. Henry and Cherche softened Grima up, then I positioned a bunch of people around and had Avatar/Lucina attack. Avatar was only doing about 8 damage a hit, crit chance of 7%.

Avatar triggers Ignis -> Lucina attacks -> Grima triggers Ignis and hits -> Avatar triggers Ignis and criticals. End. Picture-perfect.

Of course then it turns out I could've just had Gerome join his parents on smashing ol' Grima, but this way was much more satisfying.

My final team wound up being:

Chrom - Great Lord
Avatar - Dark Knight
Sumia - Falcon Knight
Henry - Sorcerer
Cherche - Wyvern Lord
Miriel - Valkyrie
Lon'Qu - Swordmaster
Lissa - Falcon Knight
Vaike - Berserker
Gangrel - Trickster
Lucina (Chrom/Sumia) - Great Lord
Morgan (Avatar/Lucina) - Swordmaster
Kjelle (Sully/Virion) - General
Gerome (Cherche/Henry) - Wyvern Lord
Nah (Nowi/Gaius) - Manakete
Yarne (Panne/Vaike) - Taguel

I think I am only one who soft reset WHEN my Virion dies. I mean I let Anna, Panne, Vaike, or that War Monk die. I am sorta of trying to be true to Hard/Classic. I don't believe anyone if they let no one dies when they beat the game. I lost few people but that is Classic.

I just beat the game yesterday. I absolutely loved it. Can't wait to see Chrom in the next Smash Bros., assuming he's in it.

I'm going to play it all over again, but this time I think I'll bump up the difficulty.

One more thing: I completely forgot that
everyone you bring to the final chapter getting a quote
is a Fire Emblem staple. Gave me chills as always.

So are any of the dlc characters worth using? I got Marth and bought the champs of yore pack but without support it seems like they'd lag behind later on due to weak pair up abilities

Marth can easily hold his own due to Aptitude. Imagine a Donnel who's easy to train, can be reclassed to anything, has better caps and can use the Falchion(s). Rather than underpowered, he's almost broken. (
In my Hard campaign he ended up taking out Grimma in a single turn with the Parallel Falchion due to Astra activating twice.
). Just remember to lvl up him a bit as a Lodestar to raise his stats (Lodestar has promoted class-level base stats, so when you reclass him to 1st tier classes, he'll lose stats everywhere initially), but then reclass him to something else to let him learn some skills before taking him back to Lodestar (In my case, it was myrmidon->Swordmaster->Back to Lodestar). Micaiah also can get pretty broken due to Shadowgift (dark magic in any tome using class).

Roy doesn't really have anything comparable to them though. His skill will be too low initially to take much advantage from starting with Aegis. He does start with Dual Strike +, which gives him a +10% Dual Strike chance with anyone, making him a decent partner for other Spotpass/DLC characters, but that's only the equivalent of a C level support, so it won't mean much in the end.

Well tell us what happened!

Apparently I was underleveled for the fight, since only about 4 of my characters could tank (and not well) and nobody could deal any significant damage to the final boss - except Chrom and Lucina (and that was only 16 damage per hit, and Chrom's hit rate was crap).

I "softened up" the boss with Cordelia, and by that I mean I prodded it with Aversa's Night dealing like 5 damage + vengeance. Then I moved Lucina w/ Chrom in to deal some actual damage. Lucina hits, Chrom gets a dual strike, then the boss activates Ignis and fucks me up pretty good.

At this point I'm thinking soft reset, because the boss won't die this turn and enemy reinforcements are going to appear and kill Lucina. Plus I had a couple other units that weren't in great position on the rest of the map that would likely die as well. Then came Lucina's second attack. Aether. The two hits combined were exactly enough to get the boss down to 0HP.

Now on an unrelated note, Pavise can go to hell. Activating 4/5 times on my astra attack likely causing one of my characters to die if I hadn't won that turn.

That seems like a waste of internal levels, especially considering he already has aptitude.

Depending on the difficulty level you're playing through it might be necessary to not let him lag behind in some stats after class changing him to a base class. I'm talking about only 5-10 extra levels, not going all the way to 30. He'll be initially overpowered compared to your other units as a Lodestar, so that can be done really easily.

All my units are crazy broken

defs doing a no children no random battles hard run after this

seeing they had like 0% chance to hit or do zero damage for me

sigh

lol; If this happens to me I will equip everyone with sticks, logs, and wind.

Well I took a long break from this game after finishing my first file so that I could play and enjoy some other games, but now I'm thinking about making a new file. I started with Hard/Classic as my difficulty and can't decide whether to go with Lunatic/Classic or Lunatic/Casual. I want to go with the latter so I don't break my 3DS in half, but at the same time I'm not sure if Casual will be a true test of strategy because I can save mid-match and keep any units that die.

Also can't decide between making another male avatar or going with a female one. Does having a female MU change the dialogue significantly aside from S rank supports?

This is my first FE game and I'm playing on Classic. Lost Valke and Miriam already, and I'm only at Chapter 6. Gonna grind a bit on that low level SpotPass team to give my dudes more of a fighting chance.

I don't think I'd enjoy this game nearly as much not playing on Classic or resetting every time someone dies. There's never been a war where only one side bleeds!

This. So far in my deceased list:

Kellam
Vailke
Cherche
War priest guy who's name I never even bothered learning

A shame you have Miriam die though, she gets ungodly powerful. Turn her to a dark mage then eventually a sorceror... she has incredibly good speed for her class, high def, and her magic one or two shots nearly everything.

Likewise, Cherche was one of my best units for most of the game. She kind of went downhill once I reclassed her from Wyvern Lord to Griffon Rider though.

Is it a dumb idea to reclass someone and then reclass them again back to their original class? And is it dumb to reclass someone who has already been promoted?

I thought the low strength cap would hinder Olivia when I moved her back to dancer, but she still does good damage thanks to astra and swordfaire, and dancing and galeforce are a great combination.

The only stats you lose when reclassing are the inherent stat bonuses for that class. Using different classes allows you to learn more skills, and even basic classes can have useful skills. Reclassing after a unit reaches level 20 also allows them to start gaining levels again, so they can keep increasing their stats.

So reclassing is actually a good idea a lot of the time in this game. You should only really stop once your unit knows all of the skills you want it to know and has maxed out their stats for whatever class you want them to finally stay.

1. No, if you just want to grab the skill(s) of the other class it's a perfectly fine move. Or maybe you just want slightly different growth rates for a while.
2. No, again it depends on the skills/caps you want to have in the end.

To question one, no, once you have all the skills you want and are around the caps promoted class caps, I'd say put the character in a class that suits them or one you like. If that happens to be a class they were already in, so be it. If there are skills you want in other classes it doesn't make much sense to go back to a class you were already in though.

And for the second question, not at all. In fact I'd say that's the way to do it since most of the best skills come from promoted classes. Reclass for base class skills/stats first, promote once, then reclass your promoted unit to other promoted classes.

Just had a total ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHH moment in Chapter 23:

Had cleared the entire board of enemies, only Validar was left. I sent in MU/Chrom to finish him off. But Chrom doesn't trigger (at 70% trigger rate), and then Validar triggers Vengeance and hits on a 50% chance to hit, one-shotting my MU with full health. ARRRGHHHHHHHHH.

Chapter 11 Spoilers

How is Chrom's marriage determined? I'm level C with Sumia. Can I still get him to marry Olivia if the total support points are higher? Or will he always go with Sumia as he has a higher rank with her

You're going to need to marry Sumia off to someone else if you want Olivia to be Chrom's wife. You're not going to get Olivia's support with Chrom higher than Sumia's in the time you have her.

If he has a higher rank with her he'll automatically go for her. Unless you go in a bunch of skirmishes to marry her to someone else then she won't be a possibility for marriage anymore and the game will look for the next highest one.

Well, let me follow up by asking if you need to level up to support c in order to start leveling up to support b? In other words, could I just turtle in one level and then get support b, a, and s on the next three missions? Of do you start from zero every time after you watch the support event?

Thanks, by the way.

Dumb question, where / when do random battles show up? Are they only spotpass teams or do spots on the map allow grinding at some point? Just started ch. 5

Risen will pop up randomly(?) from time to time, but the human teams that appear are only from SpotPass and StreetPass. However, you can play DLC maps and I think summon teams from the Bonus Box at any time.

Just downloaded this off the e-shop. Any reason to go with one gender over the other? I prefer the female models more than the males. Any big differences besides appearance?

which units you can marry, which gender-exclusive classes you have access to, and whether your child (Morgan) will be male or female (always opposite gender)
