First Madden 360 [RENDERED] shot!

This is same exact situation EA was in during 2000. They released the normal PSOne/N64/PC/etc versions in August then waited for PS2 to come out and had Madden 2001 ready for launch in late October.
So obviously EA will have Madden ready for its normal August launch, and then hold Madden 2006 Xbox360 for the launch of the system.

Well even Xbox did the same thing. It launched November 15, 2001. Gamespot lists the game as having a release date of October 29, 2001
It would make a lot of sense to -- if it's at all logistically possible -- launch the Xbox around September. I think next-gen football would be more coveted at that point and more of an impulse purchase for big football fans. In the thick of the football season, not so much.
I said the same thing about the PSP, but I think if they do this right, Microsoft can sell pretty much whatever they produce...

I think that shot is representative of the in-game engine during a replay scene and those smaller character models from the official EA website are in game models as seen from the front. I think they'll be even more polished by the time the game is released, which is pretty mind boggling. The details are incredible and I expect nearly every next-gen game to have comparable models. I can't fuckin' wait.
As for the PS3 damage control boys in this thread.... :lol Get a grip. The bottom line is that Xbox 360 is not "a $300 piece of hardware". Just like the PS3, it's highly advanced tech that'll cost Microsoft alot more per piece than they're going to be selling it for. Chances are that the PS3 will be more powerful, but the degree of difference (if any) remains to be seen and if this gen is anything to go by, then multiplatform publishers like EA will make their home console games look pretty much the same.

And the big guy looks like a fight night round 2 character with a helmet on. While that might be impressive to have a football field full of them compared to two in a ring, its not exactly graphics we've never ever seen before.

So it's still an 'enhanced' screen, so to say. A rendered concept? Considering that not even R500 chip is taped out, it makes sense to not have actual in-game graphics screens for any next gen console.
If you want to buy only one, it would make sense to actualy compare them before buying, I guess. Did you follow your own logic and stuck with Dreamcast once other next gen consoles came out?
Maybe because it's actually more like PS3 >> Xbox 360?

Keep in mind that the developers still do not have the finalized (or even something roughly like it) Xbox360 hardware, especially the GPU.
So yes, of course it has to be a visual target screenshot. Considering all the specs they have, this is what they think they will be able to display with a good framerate. Could be worse, could be better, but usually this late in the console dev cycle the developers pretty much know what they will be able to do or not with the final hardware.

I hope they're still showing these concept pics only because they're not allowed show any X360/PS3 media, and not because they don't actually have any next-gen build running yet (though I trust nathkenn that it is there), or because it's further off than we think.

A leap ? Maybe not because the differences will become harder and harder to notice technology-wise. You'll get more polygons, more shader effects, more of more, but considering the sheer number of stuff you'll already get from a 1st gen title it will certainly be far less noticeable.olimario said:

And this was because Sony did not have good dev kits/documentations at first, and of course because the PS2 hardware was a real best to code for and most devs were afraid to touch the VU0/1. Maybe the PS3 will also get a big evolution in its lifetime if Sony does not deliver some great compilers and profiling tools for the Cell at first too, but we won't get something as big as the change between shimering/jagged edges/ugly textures from 1st gen title to the very smooth look of a Tekken 5 for example.
What I'd like to know is - what's the "target"? Generic next-generation console? Or a specific platform? X360? PS3? We'd better be getting something that looks like this at the end of year on X360 if EA are running a teaser now..I'm sure bait-and-switches are far too below them
I'm hoping some or all of the boxes at E3 will have final CPU/GPU silicon, at least..I guess it's possible if the GPU taped out in Q1 (as was the word) and came out OK (?)
