Help me word it better :p

Those pics are 5 years old, I didn't know much about fitness then. I just went on an extreme caloric deficit and did chest, abs, and cardio. I lost tons of muscle, and although the results were good I was a twig by the time I was done.

Fast forward, a few years I'd stopped lifting, and working in an house, then I broke my hand which killed all my activity and got me pretty depressed and eating like shit.

Well about 2 months ago (at 199 lbs) I started getting fit again, I wish I'd taken a before picture 2 months ago when I weighed 199lbs and had a bf% probably in the 20's, so that I can make a 3 month progress pic, because my results so far are amazing, by the time I'm done I'm gonna be huge and cut, which should be a great motivator to the people out there who have struggled with weight nearly their whole lives like I have.

I´m curious: what´s your diet?

I know i´m working out strongly, and i haven´t had any significant result in three months because of my diet, so i wonder what you are taking since you said you got good results in two or three months.

Unfortunately, yes.
I was gonna post, but you guys have it well covered. The depressing part about the thread is just how uneducated people are about basic nutrition.

The key to fat loss and being healthy is incredibly simple in pretty much any situation, but people get it wrong time and time again. This coupled with disinterest in learning or even just wanting better one's self... meh it's a mess.

The thread reads like the conversations I have with my mom.

That one guy, I believe his name is beastmode, is all over the place and the stuff he is saying is just incorrect. I understand where he is coming from but he seems to be very close minded in his thoughts and there is no reason for me to try to continue with that conversation.

The problem right now is with the low carb nuts that think it's the only way to go. I don't have a problem with low carb diets except that they're not for me, but the nuts are the ones that think there's nothing else out there that works or makes you healthy. I don't think anyone on here is recommending people follow the food pyramid, but it seems like for some people, it's either low carb or food pyramid. There's no option for allowing carbs in there if it's going to bring you above ketosis. And that's the point where it's just not worth arguing about. I probably would have thought the same thing as the poster in question when I first started dipping my toes into the modern diet idealogies.

but there is hope, people that are in their 30's now are more conscious about nutrition and health than people in their 30's back in the decade of the 80's.

My brother, sister and me we all do stuff and take good care of ourselves, all mid 30's. Our parents back then, when they were in their 30's, they wouldn't for a single moment think about what they ate or did with their body.

I can safely say that there are WAY more people in gyms and eating properly now than 10 years ago.

give it time.

To be fair, modern science is going in the direction of low carb. But low carb is considered anything under 150 grams and is not synonymous with ketogenic.

If you define it as <150 grams, then I guess I'm low carb as well. There's a big difference like you said between low carb and ketogenic. The former is healthy to remain in for a long time, keto is not something you want to be in for the rest of your life.

I have no problem with low carb and advocating eating less carbs. However, when people say that low carb is better than other methods or that it is the only way to do things, then it becomes an issue of ignorance. Of course you can lose weight by eating 200-300 g of carbs if you are willing to go to the gym and burn that energy. Now, if you prefer to eat less, then do it that way. Whatever works for you. It is just annoying to see it as "all or nothing".

People aren't strictly talking weight loss though, there's a difference between simply losing weight and/or putting muscle - and losing weight and/or putting on muscle in a healthy manner. Diet pills certainly work for weight loss, and it's another method one can pursue to lose weight, but it's unhealthy as fuck (I'm not saying this is the same thing..)

Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinions, but if legitimate scientific studies support something, I personally don't find issue with stating such, even if other people who subscribe to such things find issue.

I'm finished with that thread. It's kind of funny, though. He didn't understand an appeal to authority argument, he suggested I was Brad Pilon, then he called me a liar. I'm content to give him the last word since that is all he's concerned with anyways. Thread's done derailed enough.

Of course, but those same studies are just speaking on its effectiveness. Again, I'm not saying that low carb is wrong as it obviously works but in the end, it isn't the only way to achieve your specific end game.

Dieting is key, and so is training/exercise. They should work in tandem to obtain the results you want. If you just want to lose fat, there's plenty of ways to do it. There may be better options for a myriad of reasons whether it's science, psychological, or just plain preference. No one should ever really box themselves into one pathway in such a way that that is the ONLY pathway they believe works.

Obesity is a different issue though. I always abide by the principle of people doing little things to change their lifestyle. Changing any kind of lifestyle is impossible to do in a short amount of time, and most people are gonna flat out fall on their ass and give up at the first sign of failure. So forget these diet plans, and just learn basic nutrition and try to clean up what you eat, favoring foods that you enjoy eating and finding healthy alternatives for your favorite meals. Same principles for exercise.

That all being said. It's all about options, and that's what's so great about fitness. There's so many ways to go about doing so many things.

Why are my posts always so fucking touchy feely?

Oh man, I couldn't believe it myself. It's amazing how quickly people can boil down to bullshit when they have nothing convincing to argue with. I admire you, and a lot of the other guys for sticking it out so long, lol.

Touchy feely posts are okay with me. That other thread is far too hostile, it's just making me angry. I've said my piece and I'm done with it.

Yeah, good point. There are people in my gym I see working hard every day, struggling with their weight, but they're always in there. Some people definitely do get it.

My sister actually finished up her first round of Insanity about a month ago. I was kinda shocked. Until now I was the only person in my family who cared about fitness to any degree. Now she's just about as excited for it as I am. We're doing our darndest to try to help our mom do the same.

It's such a long term process for a lot of people. I mean who remembers my picture from high school? That was almost 10 years ago and I'm still working on getting in shape.

People want results and they want them now :/

I know i´m working out strongly, and i haven´t had any significant result in three months because of my diet, so i wonder what you are taking since you said you got good results in two or three months.

I drink about a gallon of water per day, I eat very clean, high protein intake, mid-low carb intake, mid-low fat. I don't count calories or macros anymore because I'm very aware of what I'm putting into my body, and I have a very good idea of where I'm at each day. I eat a ton fish and ton of chicken.

I eat roughly 1900 calories. About 200g protein, about 175g carbs (I eat most of these early in the day, late at night I have no carbs), and about 50g fat most all of it from good sources (fish, chicken, fish oil, avocados, nuts, legumes, eggs). I try to eat a little bit more on the days I lift.

When I'm not cutting I take creatine and bump my carb and calorie intake up quite a bit, everything else stays around the same.

I lift 1 hour a day, 5 days a week, and I train very very hard and I do almost all compound lifts (Squats, deads, Bench, Dips, etc). I don't do any cardio at all, but on days that I do abs I do them in circuit fashion (no rest) which is equivalent to doing cardio because it gets your heart racing and wears you the hell out.

Sounds very similar to what I'm eating now. Getting more carbs in has been such a big help at the gym. Can't get enough of Greek yogurt, ive been missing out!

To be fair, modern science is going in the direction of low carb. But low carb is considered anything under 150 grams and is not synonymous with ketogenic.

Lyle McDonald, author of "The Ketogenic Diet" now believes that state of Ketosis isn't necessary or desirable, it is just a bi-product of very low carb but that you shouldn't shoot for Ketosis.

That said, CKD Keto is what worked for me when I was obese. It worked a million times better than anything else FOR ME. Now that I'm not a fat F I can pretty much eat whatever as long as I go to the gym and eat under maintenance (3,300) I'll still lose weight. I actually ate 400g of carbs every day last week and it was glorious.

Just saw that video of the Russian powerlifter who died after dropping a shit ton of weight on his chest. His spotter was an ass.

Hi guys!

Wanted to give everybody a quick update. I did a reset on all of my lifts and I am doing 5x5 and am loving it. Since I am doing so much running, biking, and swimming, I have limited my compound lifts to just once a week.

225 on the bench was simple
150 now on the OHP done
335 deadlift without straps, complete (was doing 405 with straps)
235 on the squat finished (blows. feel so weak)

this cardio is KILLING my lifts though. I feel weak compared to where I was but the resetting feels great. Going to be back to my usual self by December.

Yea things aren't so black and white, many ways to get from point a to b, some more efficient than others and some better suited for some over others.

I'm carbed up at a solid 195 right now, thinking about whether I should give keto another go as I try to cut down to 180, I'll likely say fuck it and just be relatively low carb.

fat people who make excuses are gross, lifting weights is pretty cool. eat a lot and lift heavy so you can get big and scare old people with your huge bi's. problem solved.

There is an ever so slight possibility that I was poking fun at discussion from the other thread.

NOPE.

It's too late now. You have angered the low carb gods. Quickly! Eat this burger!

It was my 10 year anniversary at work today and they surprised me with tons of barbecue and stuff.

I'm glad it is deadlift and back day. At least it will all get put to good use.

Also got promoted to Director Woot!

We're on the same page with the sushi obsession. It's my finances birthday Saturday and I think she wants to go to the *gulp* sushi buffet.

I love me some sushi. There is an amazing all you can eat sushi place that we go to. Best part is that we can order entrees and it is still part of the all you can eat menu.

Korean style bbq short ribs are so good. I load up on them.

Lol is that a chicken fried steak patty in there? I would devour that.

ham, chorizo sausage, breaded pork, hot dog, chipotle mayo, avocado, jalapenos, egg, lettuce, tomato, onion, 1/2 lb burger (might be 1/4, the site doesn't say)

also congrats on promotion!

I'm doing the beginner's workout in the OP, but sprained my ankle badly last night, and I'll be wearing a boot for the next 3-4 weeks. So I'd imagine squats, deadlift, pendelay rows and cleans are all out for a couple weeks at least. Bench, pull ups and press all should be alright. Any ideas for what I could do to replace some of those exercises I won't be able to do? I know nothing can perfectly replace squat or deadlift.

I'm such an asshole at the sushi buffets. I always leave ~80 to 90% of the rice uneaten. *puts up flame shield*
