It's such a long term process for a lot of people. I mean who remembers my picture from high school? That was almost 10 years ago and I'm still working on getting in shape.

People want results and they want them now :/

I started caring about the aesthetics of my body until recently but up to this day, the best result I can get is to finish the session in a bath of sweat and power, knowing the strength of my soul made it possible, knowing I gave a huge middle finger to depression, bad ex-partners, shitty bosses at work and any nasty people that have treated me unfair.

I don't understand why all other people don't use exercise to exorcise all bad stuff. That's the true reason, the hot body and all is just added bonus, the way I see it.

dunno, that mindset helps me.

Sorry, I'm just not OK with people trying to defame me or something I feel is important, especially by cowardly gossiping in a different thread.

I didn't really keep up with that thread, just jumped in for a few pages, but what was beastmode's background exactly? Was he citing some sort of research, personal experiences? Beastmode, are you an athlete or trainer, or just have experience with weight loss/gain?

I laughed :D

but in all seriousness, don't fuck up this thread, this is about FITNESS, meaning exercise, weightlifting and cardio, NOT about eating low carb and that shit, keep it out of here.

?

People have repeatedly tried to make that out as my opinion and I have repeatedly corrected them.Is this directed at me?

you and anyone still willing to engage in that particular discussion that should honestly stay in the thread it started.

These people were dedicated to finding even the tiniest flaws in low-carbohydrate dieting. When they couldn't come up with anything they resorted to just about every logical fallacy in the book.

Just wanted to put this out there: I don't believe in anything purported as my stance on this topic posted in this thread.

I'm out.

FallingEdge, you don't get to complain about shitting up this thread when you're responsible. I actually did PM certain posters from the anti-obesity thread, you didn't.

edit: In the process of PMing you, worldrevolution.

I can't do one.pull up at the moment. My buddy told me to build strength and drop some weight first then we'll incorporate it in our workout. Is there something I can do that simulates this so i can buold those muscles without actually doing a pull up?

Had a terrible day in the gym today. Can usually do three sets of 8-12 reps OHP with 115lbs. Today couldn't even get five reps on my last set. Cutting is really starting to get to me. Need to find my inner beast mode for these last 10-15lbs.

He was citing research.

I personally wouldn't put much stock into personal experiences or the word of an athlete/trainer, at least over that of sound scientific research.

I don't put stock in a single thing on the internet, def not gaf lol. But if he was stating his opinion based off research then what's the issue?

Ah he just pmed me, yeah I can't see the issue if he's talking about researched ideas - unconventional or not. But shrug, whatever.

I used to be in the same boat.

It's a compound exercise that hits the biceps, forearms and several upper back muscles (especially the lats), so doing workouts that target those as well as losing weight will help with the process.

Does your gym have an assisted pull up machine? If so, it might help to use one of those, going down in weight assistance each time until you can do them on your own. Also, hanging from the bar as long as you can helps. Or if you don't have an assisted pull up machine, then use a chair for support, support meaning use your own strength as much as you can muster, only using the chair to support what you can't do.

This is the best way imo.

Replaced moderate elliptical with running this morning. 2 miles at 6-7 mph. Was soaked afterwards but enjoyed it once I got my breathing under control.

Will step up speed and or distance.

This is what I'm doing in about 2 hours. :(
Aw, I'm feeling left out, I'm not doing BBB this cycle. Shenanigans I say!

Perhaps next cycle. Doing 5x10 squats or deads eventually accumulates to a test of sheer will. My back day is tomorrow and that has been pretty simple lately. I've been doing some assistance that isn't too far off from what Matt Kroc suggested in this article, namely doing A)5/3/1 Deadlifts, B) 100 total chins, and C) working up to a 20-30 rep set of Kroc rows. Second cycle of doing this, and I'll probably keep this for a while even if I BBB other 5/3/1 days.

I'm 18 and I have a bad relationship with food. I regularly eat 4-6k calories a day and hate myself. I'll then workout for 2+ hours a night and do it all over again. This really bothers me because I used to eat very healthy and i looked very good. My peak was about 6'1, 170 pounds. Now I'm about 6'3/6'4 and I'm 200 and not liking how i look. I really can't take this anymore, and what makes it worse is that when I get going eating healthy, I'm really good but I'll ruin it binging one day and go back to my terrible ways. Advice Gaf?

When you cheat one day, just move on. Stop feeling guilty when you make mistakes and move on to the next day. A diet change is simple, but it seems like you got something else going on that's stopping you. Try to figure that out and work on it.

6'4" at 200lbs is not fat in any way. Are you lifting heavy? If you love eating big, follow a strength and/or mass program and get big.

Question- I normally workout mon/wed/fri, but next week I won't be able to workout on monday. Should I workout tuesday and friday with extra volume, or do tue/thur/sat and just not have the two day rest and recovery period at the end of the week? I'm doing a slightly modified SS routine.

The problem is, I think, is that I'm a former fat child and I've never really gotten in shape for me, you know? It's always been for other people, so I'd fit in and be liked. Well it worked, I eventually had two girlfriends in high school and was generally liked so I think I reverted back to my old ways. And I don't want it to be like this anymore, how do I do this for myself and not other people?

I'm doing a modified version of SS too and would just workout tue/thur/sat for that week. I'm currently doing that this week since I couldn't workout Monday. You'll be fine.

The problem is I don't want to get big. I have a very lean body shape, like that of a swimmer, and a more toned body is what fits me better. I know I could get big, I can lift hard and heavy, and eating is no problem for me, but thats not want I want. And I definitely don't look fat, but I am not happy with my body in anyway.

Then you need to eat less. It's really that simple.

It's a marathon, so stop letting one bad meal ruin things.

Exactly that. Give yourself a reason to do it for yourself. Besides appearance and looking good for other people, why do you want to diet/workout?

I'm no beginner. I know what I need to do, I just lack something that lets me do that. If it was really that simple, we wouldn't have an obesity problem.

I workout because I eat so much and it makes me feel better. I eat so much because working out makes me feel like I can eat that much. It's a terrible cycle that I want to break. I was about 175 in june and now I'm close to 200, so its time something be done about this.

So suck it up and gain some self-control. You're basically complaining about not having discipline to a lot of people who force themselves to be disciplined...

You sound exactly like me during my summer between high school and college. I drank a lot of beer and didn't realize I put on some weight before preseason. Don't let it get to you.

Right now looking back on what you used to look like isn't going to get you back to where you were. Don't focus on appearance. Focus on a specific goal; like finish a half marathon or be more energetic.

Ya, I think I am just having a stressful time transitioning from high school to university. And I used to run, i loved it, then I tore my ACL and haven't been able to run since. That really put me into a deep depression and I don't think I've ever really recovered. I know it's not easy, I always try and I get through of week of good eating and working out but I just can't sustain it. I guess I was just looking for some encouragement.

I appreciate it guys.

No worries. I had a bunch of injuries in HS as well. I got really depressed when I couldn't play an entire season for two years straight. Just take it easy on yourself. You're putting too much pressure on yourself to look like you used to. You're just going to drive yourself crazy with that attitude and you'll most likely push any girls away with that attitude. Just be happy and focus on a goal that's not about looking like you used to.

So my 'lil brother has decided to lose some weight, he started with doing some cardio last week and plans on going to the gym regularly when school starts next week.

I asked him what kind of program he was planning on doing, half expecting him to list some machines and iso exercises. But he said he plans on doing starting strength. *sniff* so proud.

If only our schedules lined up we could go together.

Deadlifts tonight. It is amazing how much eating at maintenance can do for you in just 1 short week. I hit PR for deadlift easily. Actually did 2 the first set and then decided to do 2 more in another set. This was after all my 5/3/1 lifts were completed.

So I've been worried about mixed grip and tearing my bicep. I've heard about it happening a lot. I've seen several videos of it happening on YouTube. It happened to Layne Norton.

I only use it when I go over 400 so it isn't for that many sets but serious.....I'm scared.

So tonight there was a really old dude dead lifting 585. He was at least 60. I saw his mixed grip and decided to ask him if he ever had bicep problems. he says "not anymore" then he pulls up his sleeve and shows me his still detached bicep.....fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! He said since he was old and didn't care, he never got it reattached

Now I'm more scared than ever. I tried hook grip but it split my thumbnail in half. No idea how people use that unless I was just doing it totally wrong. Glad I asked him after my sets....

I mixed this into my leg workout tonight.

Dumbbell Overhead Bulgarian Split Squat

Holy shit, it kills your upper quads! I started at 15 lbs, then went up to 25. I cheated on my last set and used two hands to secure the weight (and help keep my balance).

You can avoid it by not engaging your arms during the lift at much as possible. Round your upper back and only use your arms as "hooks" when you get to the top simply lock the weight back with your shoulders.

What the fuck is this? Detached biceps from doing mixed grip on deadlifts? Whaa

More importantly, actively straighten the supinated arm while lifting. Flex your tricep, straighten your elbow.
