What the fuck is this? Detached biceps from doing mixed grip on deadlifts? Whaa

Basically it happens because people end up trying to pull the weight up with their arms with the mixed grip. In effect, they end up trying to curl a shit load of weight. Not gonna happen.

Dumbbell Overhead Bulgarian Split Squat

Holy shit, it kills your upper quads! I started at 15 lbs, then went up to 25. I cheated on my last set and used two hands to secure the weight (and help keep my balance).

I'm doing this next week.

This, exactly.

Most people do not realize that biceps are actually activated when properly doing deadlifts, in a way. They are stretched out longer than they normally would be due to proper extension of the arms. It's why if you do a lot of high rep deads your arms will really feel it the next day.

So, you grab bar. Bar pulls down. Biceps are tugged. Shit's not straight. Snap city.

Just make sure you're back, chest, and arms are tight and properly extended, slightly to get set, and then pull. Don't just yank it off the ground.

no sadface!

beast mode baby! you got this!
I got it done! Didn't go too bad, but I actually came close to failing my last set of squats, definitely the hardest of the days so far. I don't know how I'm gonna survive week 3.

Aw, I'm feeling left out, I'm not doing BBB this cycle. Shenanigans I say!

Perhaps next cycle. Doing 5x10 squats or deads eventually accumulates to a test of sheer will. My back day is tomorrow and that has been pretty simple lately. I've been doing some assistance that isn't too far off from what Matt Kroc suggested in this article, namely doing A)5/3/1 Deadlifts, B) 100 total chins, and C) working up to a 20-30 rep set of Kroc rows. Second cycle of doing this, and I'll probably keep this for a while even if I BBB other 5/3/1 days.
Damn, that actually looks enticing in an insane sort of way. Back day has become my favorite day and I'd like to do more back stuff, but I'll keep at BBB.

Props to you though!

I guess I was just exhausted a month back when I tried dips (BW). Only managed a couple. I had been working out triceps a bit before though.
Today at the end of the Beginners Full Body friday routine (arm work) I did 3x8 with ease (first time trying again since that other time). Need to use waist belt and weights next time.

Getting adjusted to Zottman as well. First time last week and I loaded a bit too heavy and had problem when lowering. Also now I keep the bars on a 45degree twist on the way down.

I don't know there are vids on youtube of it happening and it doesn't look like they are trying to pull it up with their bicep. Shit happens a lot man. I mean I believe what you are saying and Mark Bell said the same thing but I don't want that shit happening to me lol.

I want to look like Bane by Halloween. Is that too much to ask?
I'm jumping on this Bane inspiration train. I have seen several mention it and I got to admit that it was in the back of my head when working out the couple of months surrounding the film. Dude is menacing.
And playing Gotham's Reckoning is the best music to get you all worked up.

Been getting compliments on apparent weight loss. The scales haven't changed, but I suppose I've just lost fat and gained a lil' muscle. I'm definitely feeling way better physically, and I've been working out each of the past 4 days. Half an hour on the elliptical for my knee, plenty of stretching, and then either some weight training/calisthenics or swimming (like I did today). I've also been eating really clean lately (apart from the occasional splurge with friends for old times' sake).

Feels good man. :)

Damn my thighs are getting huge. Already 63cm (~25inch) even though I only squat 110kg/242lbs.

Don't know how big they would get at this rate if I one day squat 150kg or so...

Lucky, mine are absurdly small, at least down towards my knees. But I only rep 5s at 95kg/210lbs.

Alright ladies and gents my package has arrived so I'll be giving you a few brief reviews today please excuse the stock photos, I can't find my camera at the moment.

First up: Muscle Pharm: Combat Powder (Cookies & Cream Flavor)
$T2eC16J,!y8E9s2fifk!BP8mwtyE4Q~~60_3.JPG

This is one of the higher rated Protein powders out there and top 2-3 in terms of poupalrity so I had big expectations.

Mixability: 10/10 I used a blender ball mixing cup 4 oz water, 2 oz milk, shook a few times and it mixed extremely well, no chunks.

Aroma: 9/10 Spells pretty much exactly as you'd expect, which is very good.

Texture: 9/10 Wasn't too thick, wasn't too thin, no chalkiness, nearly perfect

Taste: 7.5/10 It tastes very good, but I had heard such great things I was a bit letdown. It's kind of boring, tastes like Vanilla with like a hint of chocolate. It also seems a tad bit sweet, I may tend to get a bit sick of it near the end? Right now I think Banana Cream is clearly superior to it.

Next up:

Muscle Pharm: Combat Powder (Orange Creamsicle)
images

Mixability: 10/10 Same thing, no chunks, smooth.

Texture: 10/10 Light and bit fluffy, perfect.

Aroma: 10/10 Smells amazing. A nice light citrussy aroma

Flavor: 10/10 Wow. This is my new all-time favorite. It's Vanilla with just enough Orange to give it a nice fruity little kick It tastes like somebody took the ice cream and threw it in a blender. It's also not too sweet, I don't see myself getting tired of it from being too sweet at times like with the Banana Cream. Only time will tell

I honestly can't recommend the Orange Creamsicle enough. If you like Orange Creamsicles I don't see how you could possibly not like it. I could drink it all day everyday. It sounded gross to me at first but it's honestly amazing. Unfortunately the only place you can get Orange Creamsicle right now is bodybuilding.com Also note that Muscle Pharm has done away with the STUPID laundy detergent shaped scooper, and gone with a more traditional round scoop in all their new stuff.

Buy Orange Creamsicle!

Thanks for this. Will see if I can find Orange Creamsicle on Australian stores edit: Looks like I have to order it from bodybuilding.com like mentioned. 2nd edit: Ordered.
I have been using Horley's Ripped Factors (vanilla taste) this last week and it's ok but just that.

Yeah I use mixed grip and couldn't imagine this happening unless you actually tried to lift with your arms.. but then you're just not doing a dead lift.

edit: oh man I just saw that beastmode guy in the is gaf too strict thread trying to get a mod to ban you guys. serious internetz business

I know this type of complaint won't see much sympathy, but fuck all do i hate how active I am. Between lifting, my job bartending, and just the other physcial activity I'm into, I'm at an estimated 3200-3800 calories a day to gain 1/2 lb a week. the reality though is that when I began creatine again I saw a spike in water weight, but eating at this level on 5/3/1 my weight has remained the same or even a tiny bit lower, with my BF% seeming to have dropped a bit. I'm trying to bulk super clean, but doing so and eating more than this seems damn near impossible. I've had to grab some crap just to hit my goal the last few days when it went above 4000 cals. maybe I just need jars of peanut butter. knowing I likely need to up things another 250-500 cals at least is intimidating though.

Chaos & Pain did an article on Tom Hardy. The website is incredibly NSFW and the article link I'm giving out doesn't have any naughty bits in it but links or ads probably will. I don't know since I rip them from an RSS feed. So, very NSFW:

Weigh in today at 182 (2 pounds heavier than last week) but my sprints, squats and deads all got better this week so I really don't care and I'm happy about the physical increase.

The best way to gain lean mass is eating tons of carbs, but fat is calorie dense so it will help you get to your calorie floor more easily

Add avocados, natural peanut butter, and whole milk to your diet if they're not already in there.

Yeah doing 5/3/1 especially with BBB and additional bodybuilder type sets as well, will really jack up your maintenance. I ate at 3,300 for a week because I thought it was my maintenance but after going back to deficit, dropping the extra water weight and glycogen from eating 400g carbs per day, I'm not sure it actually was maintenance because I'm down a half pound.

You're going to have to dig deep and keep shoveling food in your face like it was begging to be devoured. This is even more necessary given your desire to eat clean or eat well.

Jars of peanut butter would do it. I'd be surprised if you couldn't add another 1,000 calories with little effort that way.

You've done it before, and you can do it again, Petrie. Bulk, buddy, bulk!

yeah, I wish I could just load on the carbs. type 1 diabetes and all that though means I have to be extra careful with my carb intake.

good call on whole milk though, my girl always buys skim and I just drink it out of habit.

definitely need more PB. I've always been curious though, why do people always recommened any but but peanuts to people asking, yet Pb comes so highly recommended?

yeah I did it before, but I wasn't mindful enough of my diabetes. i pushed my insulin resistance through the roof, and had what would be considered a dirty bulk for sure. on the outside it turned out great eventually, but my endocrinologist wasn't exactly pleased with my stellar numbers becoming, less so.

appreciate the advice and encouragement! fuck it, let's up those calories another 500 starting today! I got this!

Another easy way to get more calories is to grind up a cup of dry oatmeal in a blender and dump it in a protein shake. I usually do 1 cup oatmeal and 2 servings Trutein so it ends up being 540 cal. 300 from the oatmeal alone. If you want even more cals use milk instead of almond milk or water.

Yeah easiest place to add calories is always the shakes. Scoops of peanut butter, cups of berries, oatmeal, whatever. All goes down the same way.

I think tree nuts have better fats than peanuts (a legume, right?)

That's probably why they get recommend in the raw state.

For adding calories and avoiding satiety, peanut butter gives you more calories per equal volume of peanuts. Plus some people probably dig into a jar of Skippy or some shit with sugar added.

All natural peanut butter for me. Not because I don't sometimes ascribe to better living through chemistry, but when I want peanut butter I want the ingredients to be peanut butter and salt.

yeah I had oatmeal in a shake last night actually, it wasn't too bad at all. next time I'm putting it in there cold though. lmao

probably time to bust out my real blender too. I've been using my g/fs magic bullet which while convenient, doesn't have the size to really let me load it on.

Gross...

I used to make 2-3cup oatmeal shakes, 600-900cal of oats alone!

Shit was disgusting but my weight gainer. Someday I'll go back to it when I want to put on some mass.

You've learned from your mistakes and you can exercise a good deal more discipline. It'll be harder than last time, but like you said, you got this.

Keep us updated on the numbers your endocrinologist comes up with. They will be better than what he saw the last time you bulked.

I am very skeptical of the whole 'eat clean' mentality. A few reasons why:

1. Makes it difficult to hit caloric requirements.
2. Lifestyle hit.
3. 'clean' foods are arbitrarily chosen. Brown rice for example is not particularly nutritious.
4. No strong evidence that eating 'clean' will affect your results, do long as you keep an eye on calories, macros and micros.

Personally I've both gained and lost weight eating foods that weren't defined as 'clean' by the bodybuilding community, and it wasn't much easier than the alternative. I'm not alone in my experience. It may not be worth the hassle, though eating healthily isn't a bad idea.

Of course eating healthily and eating clean are two different things, though related.

yeah, my numbers were never "bad", they've always just been great, like better than a lot of people without diabetes, and suddenly they became average. he's comparing me to myself, know what I mean?

things are great now though and fuck yea will they continue to be. using less insulin than ever for the same effect, which is always the goal!

as always ghe support is greatly appreciated, from everyone.

since when is eating healthy and eating clean any different?

you're making the mistake of assuming all anyone cares about is muscle results. this is a fitness thread, and there's so much more to fitness than big muscles or losing weight. all the stuff under the skin is where eating clean makes a big difference. I made great mass gains at the expense of my inner workings. not worth it.

Just saw those posts from beastmode in the "is gaf too strict" thread. Funny stuff.

Workouts are still going well for me. Thursdays are my pretty easy day, but I went up a few pounds on everything. Still in those beginner gains.

What is everyones ideal size? A rough estimate of weight/body fat (also list your height for obvious reasons).

I'm 5'11 and 192 right now, if I had to guess I'd say about 14-15% bf. I'd like to be 200lbs and 8-9% bf.

I've got 2 weeks left on my cut, i'd like to get to about 188 and then start bulking up again, rinse repeat a few times and I should be pretty close to my goal.

I'll have to view it again someday. I was in awe and dumbstruck when I watched it, and my wife and I turned to one another and we were both like, "What did we just watch?"

One of the few movies I've seen where I wasn't able to tell you if it was a good movie or a bad movie upon a single viewing. I suppose I'll lean towards good, at least in some capacity. The real life Bronson must have been something to behold.
