Question: if you are consuming maintenance calories, does lifting still benefit you even when you are also doing cardio? Am I just wasting my time?

I'm training for a run in the next few months and, although I wouldn't mind being bigger/stronger, I'm generally OK with my appearance and current condition. Am I just spinning my wheels by continuing to lift without the extra calories? I hope not, because I do love it and I really enjoy making progress even if it is very slow due to not eating enough.

Yeah, the preserves were sort of the point... but hell, can't argue with results.

(Some peanut butter is shit too, and sadly it's the only sort I enjoy.)
I usually go 20gs and mostly PB. I only buy peanuts and salt. Come on man!

I'm pretty sure I don't eat enough but I'm getting bigger and stronger. I mean yesterday I had about 2300 calories of food after I lifted + some leftover taco bell which probably made it 3100 for the day? guarantee that was the first day I got over 2500 in weeks. And I don't think it's noob gains. maybe, but I've been lifting for a long time.

i did only manage to get 10x3 and no more on bench yesterday. 190. felt really heavy. not sure how I got 250 up once only 3 weeks ago. my shoulder is kind of fucked right now though. probably need more sleep, recovery, and food.

Yes, but you aren't truly maintaining if you're at a net loss for the day. Factor in your calories burned and start eating more sir.

Just use 250-400 calories burned for lifting. That should be close enough.

That's a much, much better explanation, thanks It's crazy, all these fuckers write articles like they actually know what they're talking about and I'd wager that they actually do more harm than good because most people wont ask questions of what they're reading.

Your 60 sets in 60 minutes routine burned cardio-esque calories though. Remember, lifting to most means 2-3 minutes rests and 15-20 sets per hour (I just made that Sets / hour stat up but I fucking love it) which burns less calories.

Got it. Yeah my normal lifting days are 20 sets in an hour. Thanks!

Yea as long as at least one of them is a rubber bumper plate it's fine. If you tried it off 2 normal plates it might slide. Main problem is that I have to bring my stance in closer than I would normally and it's not a completely flat surface.

So glad I went to the gym. Whenever you feel down, just go. Had an amazing day and did 5x280, 3x320 then 1x355 on squat. Hit every rep clean and easy. Felt so good, I took a pic after from my joy which I'll post later lol.

Really feel back on track, my God gym rocks.

Haha I rode the bike for 15 minutes today and did 5 sets of bench, 5 sets of should press, 3 sets of incline db pause press and 3 sets of upright rows and I felt like I DID WORK.

I myself was on crosstrainer for 40 minutes today. Not as impressive as yours, but I was swimming in the puddle of sweat after it.

Well ok... weighed in at exactly the same as yesterday at 179.4 under the same conditions and at the same time. Looks like 2500 a day is the magic number.

EDIT: I'm still hitting my light DL day of 365x4x8 at this weight but it feels extra hard today. Damn.

Yin yin. Hurray!!!

I hit a new PR in power clean/OHP at 165 lbs.

Here was the whole breakdown of today's process:

45x5, 65x5, 95x5, 135x5, 155x1, 160x1, and finally 165x1

I also tried 170. I did a decent power clean, but I failed at the press.

Finished the routine off with 3 sets of single power cleans and 5 OHP at 135.

Funny thing happened during my second set at the end of the routine. A newbie came up to me and said he wanted to see my workout. I think he probably thought I was doing DL. When I cleaned and pressed it, he said "wow, ok" and walked away. Yeah, he didn't expect that.

Did some shoulder raises and tricep kickbacks to finish the night.

Ok, picture came out really crappy but i kinda prefer it that way, its so undetailed i can post it publically lol. This was right after i hit 355 on squat and was at max pumpage, felt terrific. 2nd pic is gym belt gainz, when i got the belt late last year (around nov/dec 2014), i could barely fit into the 3rd belt hole, now im using the 9th one all the time. Would love to lose some more and make this belt useless.

Holy shit I forgot how bad my leg DOMS get. Legs keep giving way as I'm trying to walk around. Taking me a minute just to get in and out of the car.

Hit goal weight today(230)!!! Guess its time to go into maintenance/slow bulk. So much food. I need to expand my menu too, I get tunnel visioned and too restrictive on options.
