I go 5-6 times per week and my gym partners go 0-2 times per week. All three quit recently and now I'm on my own. :,(

Hopefully you won't give up, as you were already going by yourself many times.

I want a gym partner who will take great camera angles for GAF lifts, spot me on bench one time per week, and otherwise do their own thing.

Just ask a rando that you're cool with. That stuff is super normal. I've filmed "gym buddies" doing deads numerous times.

Been doing intermittent fasting for 2 weeks and it's blowing my mind. I have never dieted so easily and quickly. I eat from noon to 8pm at that's that. Lost 1,5kg in 2 weeks and aiming for 13% body fat before I bulk back up.

Any downsides to this?

5 sets of 10 reps on Front Squats, basically cardio...

Almost never go above 6 reps for Squats or Deads so this was new.
Sometimes I like doing 10 sets of back squats with decreasing reps (starting from 10). It's a killer and I'm usually dead after, lol.

Start at a low weight, 10 reps. Increase the weight and drop the rep count down 1, rinse repeat until hit get to 1 rep. Fun times.

Some people feel weak until 12:00. If you don't, that's awesome, keep doing it! :)

IF really is like cheat mode.

Sounds like a killer indeed.

The program I started has 3 weeks dedicated to 10 rep sets with increasing intensity. First week 5 sets, second week 3 sets, and the third week 1 all out set. Not too worried about Bench or OHP, but Squats and Deads are gonna kill me this week.

Yeah feels like cheating all right. I drink a coffee without sugar or milk for breakfast and easily last until 12 to 12:30.

Sublime program.
Same. This works really well for me. I find it much easier to be hungry in the morning. Once I eat the challenge is to not eat too much.

Could anyone link a video or page with a complete workout with 2 dumbells at home? I tried searching myself but I could only find superman like workouts.

I personally just do the dumbbell version of stronglifts 5x5 but have upped it to 5 sets of 10 reps and then switch to 5 reps instead of going down in weight, or increase reps when I reach the max weight I have (110 lbs total). I have the type of dumbbells that take plates though so this may not work if you have a small set of fixed weights. I then add in extra exercises here or there for specific muscles. It's been working pretty good although deadlift and squat are too easy now at 110, so I'm not going to see any strength gains there, but I am cutting right now so I'm not to worried about that.

FE's squats looking juicy like his arms.

Think I'm gonna be competing on September 25th. Have 2 more weeks of my current block of programming and then I'll deload and run a 3 week peak before deloading into the meet. Aiming for a 440+ squat, 315+ bench, 520+ deadlift at 205.

ty ty all. I think that maybe I have another 5 or 10 lbs in me before maxing out. Prolly just chill on this for a while and really focus on getting that quad sweep and more hammy work. They been neglected pretty hard.

365 front squat :D
405/415/425 x3 paused squats

And then you have mother fuckers like this who make me look like a punk. Good shit.

You punking me out too! All that at 205 lbs is no joke.

Isn't an 8 hour window too big? I mean I imagine most people eat their meals in that timespan anyway. I thought IF had to be like a super small window, like 4-5 hours?

I've been doing IF for so many years now (over four now) that I almost forget to mention it when talking about dieting. I haven't experienced any downsides with it in that time; there's obviously the initial adjustment period where if you're used to eating in the morning, your stomach is going to complain until you've been at it for a while. Another potential issue is if you're bulking, you might find it hard to get all of the calories you need in during your window, but hey that's what calorie dense foods are for. :p

No, 8 hours is the most typical IF (16/8). No harm in doing a smaller window, but the smaller it is the harder it can be to fit in all of your calories. Think about it less in terms of the window and more about the amount of meals you eat during that time. Instead of dividing your calories across three meals over the span of an entire day, you get two bigger meals within eight hours (or whatever) that are way more satisfying from a psychological perspective.

Wait till you get a load of Brolic.

Brolic doesn't post vids here any more :(

They were legit one of the most motivating things for me, strength-wise.

Before I was doing IF, I was eating breakfast at 8:00, dinner at 6:00 and snacking. That's at least 10-12 hours of eating. Cutting those 4 off, makes a huge difference for me.

Training my partner has been going well. She's starting to gain some confidence! :)
That kind of confidence is so adorable. Watching my girlfriend check herself out in the mirror as she lost weight and also developed / revealed muscles she'd never seen before was such an amazing feeling for me.

dang. i thought i would be able to hang in this thread, clearly i'm outside of my element. ya'll are beasts.

I can't even squat more than 300lbs

These GAF beasts have been lifting for years and years. I bet every single one of them started out just like us

I'm no beast but here's some squats from 5 years ago and from this year. I'm hardly exceptional and have followed a very inefficient strength program (CrossFit) the whole time. Just follow a program for a long ass time, don't quit, and don't hurt yourself.

Oh, this is a different kind of partner. She saw a woman asked if I could teach her how to lift weights because she's never seen a woman do it before and I took her under my wing. Great to have a girl weight lifting partner.

Yeah, I read this as I'm so weak that I can only lift a small Sumo wrestler on my back for eight reps.

Ok so I did 5 reps of squats at 300! I'm at 155 right now so I'm pretty proud of myself almost double my body weight! My depth isn't very low but I reached parallel I think. I think I could have done one more rep but my shoulders were super sweaty and I was wearing a tank top and it felt like the barbell was about to fall off lmao.

I can generally go pretty deep at 215-225 but anything over I can't break parallel. Oh well I'm not squatting for the next few days/weeks I fucked up my heel at gymnastics yesterday. Not just to get my horrible bench press up (I'm literally struggling at 145 it's really bad). I've been doing 90 pushups every morning when I wake up and it seems to help in shaping my chest but it hasn't helped with my strength though.

No worries, I know what you meant. XD I was mostly just commenting on the confidence part; my girlfriend never really lifted before knowing me so it's been fun to watch her get into it and appreciate the changes it causes.

Yup. It only took two weeks for her to see basic changes too, which blew her mind.

I've discovered that I get serious joy from swimming. Since I already love running and cycling, the next step couldn't be any more obvious: Triathlons are next! It's the best excuse to swim on Saturdays and give up my rest day permanently.

5 years ago I didn't exercise at all. This is f***ing crazy. I love it!

Swimming is great! You talking pool swimming or ocean / great lake swimming?

Pool and [small] lake swimming. I've been in the water 3-6 times per week this summer.

Oh damn, yeah that's a lot of swimming. Good for you man. I'm almost solely biking / swimming right now as it feels so good on my 33 year old joints.

More power to you Mikey. I hate all 3. Seriously impressive feats by triathlon participants!

I changed my deadlift stance back to how I used to pull and it feels awesome. Narrow stance, feet pointed out slightly, standing farther away from the bar, all this to rely more on my quads instead of my hammys and glutes. I had tried sitting back and using my posterior muscles more like you're supposed to but I never felt strong doing that so I just said screw it I'm gonna pull in a way that best utilizes my strengths.

425 for a set of 7 after a 3x4. Thinking I might have 530+ for my meet now: https://www.instagram.com/p/BI3rnZdhIap/

Speaking of motivation I read something interesting last night that I'm sure many of you are aware of, and it was a great insight for me.

In the book Thinking Fast and Slow, the author references a study where willpower is tested after a tough mental exercise. You are more likely to quit unless you ingest glucose before the next round.

Also, the brain uses 20% of our daily calorie intake. I had no idea.

Well anyway I've been reading a lot and studying lately, plus hectic days at work. Instead of mental gymnastics to get through my workout, I could have brought a jug of lemonade! Too bad I'm on a diet (fake sugars don't have the same effect on the brain).
