I'm sure it's a banger

I have a feeling a bulk of that is from GamePass. I'm waiting for a price drop because I'm not in a hurry to play it.

Only real advertising or discussion the game had was about politics.
Wonder if it would have sold better if they re-framed the game and you play as Chaddy McChinFace, gentleman scoundrel instead of whatever sweet baby came up with.

It wouldn't have cracked 100k without GamePass, I reckon.

It's a decent game, not good, not bad.
Yep, considering Steam numbers that’s very likely.

The game seems mid and very much like made for “Modern Audiences”.

I may try it on a year or two when it’s like $15… but probably not going to happen since there are too many games so no point playing something painfully average.

I really enjoyed it. Would love a sequel. It ends at a pretty cool spot in the story. Combat was great once you get some abilities.

I don't get the reviews at all, but I stopped trying to understand other people years ago. Some of the bosses were balanced nearly perfectly. It may be a AA game, but you can tell some people put thought into the game.

Work.
So glad theres still an audience for these games developed by smaller teams.

Congrats to the devs.

This dev model has got to catch on eventually right?
Banger after banger.

Seems like one of the lowest player counts for a day one game pass game with a showcase showing, basically a major flop in engagement and sales

Literally not at all unless you just can't stand the site of black people in a fictional world.

No one is a Mary Sue as the story is focused on the main characters making huge mistakes and grappling with the fallout. The rest of the dialogue is just focused on heroism and the Sappers (fictional Civil War / WWI style soldiers) talking like they're in the army. Just felt like cool action game stuff.

Voice acting is pretty solid. The team is in New Zealand.

Hmm…. It is the impressions I got from the reviews I saw. If true, might check it out on deep sale.

I got as far as the big winged gate keeper thing and called it quits. Don't want to play a dark souls thing. I used all 3 of my gun charges on the first grunt and still had to hack and slash it.

The main character is black. One of the commanding officers in the game for like 5 min is also a black woman. I think that's literally it. If someone saw more woke stuff, I'm curious to know what it is. 🤷‍♂️

The whole plot is basically one big woke power fantasy.

But as usual you've turned a blind eye to that along with the game itself being mediocre to shit simply because it's on gamepass.

Yeah, at start was going slowly but after 4 or 5 hours I could make some sweet combos & gameplay dynamics changed drastically.
Game is GOOD (y)
Yep, I do think it starts slow. Day 1 my opinion was pretty low, day 2 onward I was really into it. Getting some abilities really improves the combat. And also when aiming the musket, click right stick and it changes to normal aim speed. That was my other complaint early on.

Gamepass, where failed games go to live!
.....and woke games try to recover as free for owners of Gamepass

I agree, I'm not finished with it yet but I'm enjoying it well enough. AA for sure, but just like Banishers, it's a decent game.

This is the conundrum of Gamepass;

Upside is its guaranteed money, and a decent number of people will try your game.

Downsides are basically everything else.

Bottom line is that if there was genuine interest, it would attract an audience on its own merits. The reality is that the majority of the GP audience are going to have a quick look and if it doesn't immediately "click" with them, are simply going to move on to another title. Meanwhile the rest of the market gets to look on and see what sort of reaction its generating, and then consider carefully as to whether they want to stump up a bunch of cash for something other people are getting as a value-add on their subscription. Effectively raising the barrier for entry because the perceived value of the game as a product has decreased.

Best case scenario is the game blows up as a result of positive word of mouth or other sort of virality; but I think if that was the case then it would in all likelihood have grown that same following organically. Most likely it would've taken longer, but is that a bad thing especially when its a new IP proving itself.

Honestly the best case I can make for GP day#1 is that its a safety net for publishers who lack confidence in their product. But truthfully, I don't see that as any sort of real "win".

IIRC the protagonist was originally white, that was one of the things Sweet Baby changed about it. The devs told Kabrutus that they were no longer working with Sweet Baby and had removed all the stuff Sweet Baby added, but when he asked for proof they ghosted him.

Also the gods you fight against are supposed to represent colonialism.

B1Pr1Ov.png

The word colonialism is not used in the game. There is no colony, no indigenous displaced group, literally nothing. Its humanity vs the dead.

And they explain what the gods' interests are and it has literally nothing to do with that.

It's tarnished with woke, just info for those of us who despise that, not interested in if's and buts!

This is like saying “The Handmaid’s Tale” isn’t a feminist novel because the word ‘feminism’ doesn’t appear in it”.

Sorry but I’m going to take the word of the developer on this one.

Its really not like that at all. But okay. And its fine you can believe whatever you want. I am not operating on belief. I just literally played it and saw what the game was about. It is just funny to me to see people mad about a game plot they dont even know. But I dont take personal offense to it. Knock yourself out

She’s literally just saying “gods are kind of like colonialism dontchathink?”

It’s a dumb quote trying to make their simple Gods vs humans story seem like it’s anti-colonialism it seems.

But even if it was blatant with that theme why would you make it your mission to boycott such a game? We don’t allow colonialism to expand in the modern world and haven’t for over a century lol

You have to be heavily ideologically captured to think colonialism is woke. Something as old as war itself. I wouldnt mind at all if it was about that. Its just not.

Pretty dreadful number across 3 platforms. The game was marketed pretty hard.

How well did Ashen do? I’m too lazy to look it up, but I remember genuine interest for that one.

I recognized the game from the sweet baby curator group

Snowflakes seem to have switched roles.
Thats the saddest thing ive ever seen in gaming.
Im sad now that I even know that website exists and people are so miffed they actually actively review bomb games because of it.
  • Alan Wake 2
  • Spider-Man 2
  • Paper Mario
  • Shadow Gambit
  • God of War Ragnarok
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Is there a way to mute words on GAF so I dont see when people post the word Woke or DEI?

Then on the other side we have review praising for:
GTaMRXMagAAZjMT

The fact a reason for review bombing Final Fantasy Rebirth is because there are seemingly gay NPCs, is so wild to me.

500.000 thats pretty good. Whether its on game pass or not. For this kind of game.

While playing it I havent noticed anything particularly woke.. but the edge quote is cringe. Looks like they shoehorned the whole woke agenda thing in there, maybe due to funding. But reading edge is awful these days, its about videogames not a platform for culture wars.
