Foobar 2000 [OT]: Have your cake and eat it too

I don't want to sort a huge lists dumped in one big-ass window. I want a view where I get a list of my artists and can expand and collapse their songs etc.

It looks like the latest version of Foobar has everything I need. I've set it up with a vertical artist column on the left and albums and song windows on the right.

Very nice program. Can't think of any other program that does as well managing fairly sizeable music collections.

I just installed Foobar2000 and have it setup to my preferences, but i can't seem to configure the lyrics column. Any help?

What exactly are you attempting to do with that column? Also, are you using the default interface or Columns UI?

Using foobar for around 1-2 years now. Ive known for the amazing skins ever since first seeing it but never bothered with it. Just installed Columns UI yesterday and its awesome how much stuff you already get out of the box. Even for people that don't want to do too much customizing it offers an easy way to get a decent layout in a rather short time.

This is pretty much standard CUI. Probably going to try some real own customizing next.

Foobar is horrible it reminds me of the 90s.

If you're saying that, then you obviously know absolutely nothing about the software. And it seems like you're judging it based on the default layout rather than any of the other features. It's likely you didn't bother reading the OP either.

I use the most generic skin on mine. just all my songs in 1 window, no art or anything

I mean the player spends 99% of the time minimized so no need for it to be fancy

but i do love it

Whenever I add my music folder to be monitored, nothing happens. This was a problem that forced me to switch to Winamp. Any idea why it isn't adding my music automatically?

edit: I lied, the music has been added, it just looks nothing like the example

No idea how I arrived at that after following the steps lol

The way your music is added/categorized depends on the tags in the files themselves and if there's any album art with them. So, if you have shitty tags or missing tags on some music, it might not end up where you expect it and look different in foobar than you'd expect it to be.

I don't even bother to make it pretty because it's always really buggy with skins and bloaty and it's just minimized 99% of the time anyways :|

The skin I demo'd in the OP doesn't have any bugs. I've been using it for months now and have never encountered any bugs or glitches while using it. Doesn't feel bloated to me either.

This skin is pretty minimal and not buggy either (I've been using it for a couple months):

There was this this one as well but I really like seeing album art which is the only reason im not using it:

The featured stuff in FOO-NATION are usually pretty good and stable:

EDIT: Just came across this one, might give it a shot:

I meant to ask 1st Strike, what settings do you use for b2s?

I've always stuck with 6 DB / 700 hz. Works fine for me.

I just remember it bloating up to like 500mb at one point and would be sluggish and prone to crashing way back in sub v1

With the theme I'm using, as well as the plugins and such I'm running in foobar at the moment, it's using a whopping 62 MB of memory. It's coming a long, long way since version 1.x...

I tried to follow the instructions in the OP, but nothing changed from the default view. Also I don't really understand why it is so praised, it doesn't seem to act in the way a music player should act(If I double click on an Album it should start to play, but it keeps reverting to the default playlist, & it doesn't let me merge mix albums ), what a waste of 10 minutes.

Edit: Got the skin to work(completely my fault, the guide is fine), but still having issues with the way the player works, but there does seem to be options for that so hopefully I can figure that out too).

Missed this thread until now.

I've been meaning to get into Foobar for a while, I think I'll give it another shot this week, see how it goes with a guide.

Odd, I've always found it to be very intuitive. Never had any issues with the way it works, but I suppose if you're used to itunes or something it may take some getting used to.

Definitely worth it if you invest the 10 - 15 minutes to get everything setup with the right plugins/skin.

Over the years I have used various bits of music software(WMP, MediaMonkey, Zune, VLC, etc.) & none of them caused me any problems, but Foobar makes little sense to me(I don't use Playlists, & that seems to be the main focus of Foobar). It's a pity as I mainly need it for my netbook & the other software I use eat up too many resources, I guess the hunt continues.

Sorry for posting in an old thread, but in the OP there's a link to a component called ''textbox'' But the link is dead. Is there any other way to get it? I can't find it anywhere, and I need it to make the skin work.

Ya, please someone upload that textbox component.

Started using foobar last year for flac support. I used to be able to get windows media player to play them but i forgot how to do it and using another program was easier.

Bumping for that precise reason. Lo and behold, one DLL seemingly hosted in one whole place on the internet is gone. All else failing, can an existing Foobar user mirror it for me?

Is there a way to just open a playlist (m3u) without foobar trying to read all the metadata?

I want to replace Winamp as my chiptune player and only Foobar is able to play all those obscure chiptune formats, but if I open my playlist with thousands of entries instead of just starting playback immediately foobar wants to read all the metadata first. Needless to say that this would take hours.
